Well, I'm a little fuzzy on what you are trying to accomplish here, but I will give it a go...
Without refreshers from Googleing, I can think of three "mechanisms" that have the
end result of evolving, over time, a population of reproducing lifeforms:
Natural selection:
The simple idea that ANY variation between specific members of a generation
has a chance of effecting the likelihood of that individual successfully
procreating in thier particular enviroment and genetic peer group.
Therefore, traits that increase procreation potential tend to be passed
on to the next generation.
Given a changing environment, this will cause dramatic change over time.
Genetic drift:
Honestly, I am fuzzy on this. My understanding is that it has to do with
variation in traits that are effectively survival/procreation NEUTRAL, and
therefore are free to evolve randomly without pressure in any partucular
direction.
Sexual selection:
A subset mechanism of natural selection, this is specifically referring
to traits that propagate not because of a direct survival advantage,
but instead because of some quirk or whim of preference of potential
sexual partners. The classic example is the peacocks tail. It is actually
a survival HANDICAP, because it is big and expensive and awkward and
visible, but it survived and in fact increased in size over the generations
because females happened to have a preference for males with flashy tails.
(one theory WHY is that it is a "proof of health" parasite wise, and "wealth"
food-wise)
So sexual selection involves a trait that may not improve the survivability
of the individual, but does increases its reproductive success.

Get OFF Mother Teresa's back!
by gubberningbody ini get sick to death of people denigrating mother teresa, saying that she was selfish and petty-minded.. i am especially fed up with those who say that her saintliness was purely an illusion created by her possessing minimal consciousness, like that of a small child or dog, and as such was further away from god than the average criminal.. i find this sort of talk utterly repulsive.
it is simply not right to say such horrible things about someone who was so sweet and gentle and who dedicated her whole life to helping others.. .

People don't "denigrate" her by asserting that she was "selfish" or "petty-minded".
Some simply have a hard time feeling that she was, on the balance, a force for
good in the world considering her beliefs on the virtue of abject poverty, her
glorification of suffering, and her instance on watching people starve
to death from overpopulation while preaching the evils of birth control.
I don't think she was an evil person, but for sure she was no "saint".[inkling]

JWs tend to have no problem with government intervention on any issue that
lines up with their interpretati of the bible, and this is no surprise because
the whole idea of paradise is very socialist-utopia, with God as the fascis.
But of course of moral issues, they are extremely conservative, even if
mostly non-interventionist. I remember talking about abortion, and someone
saying to the effect of "we don't want to call ourselves "pro-life" because
that would be a violation of neutrality, and we are not ADVOCATES of the
pro-life position, and would never do something like kill an abortion doctor
or even picket a clinic, even though the bible is very clear on the issue"[inkling]

also, it is interesting that, apparently, the nation of Israel did NOT use jails like the nations around. I think there is a lesson for us in this.
