  there seems to be a lot of hostility on the board toward atheists still and a lot of comments floating around like atheists are to preachy.

  well i want to take a quick minute and deal with some of these issues.

  to begin with, to make any statement regarding atheists in general would be false for several reasons.

  I like to call it my birthright . I think a label just harms and limits , if more people spoke the language of actions and intents we wouldn't have nearly so much confusion and strife ,

  I loathe names , labels and divisions of "right" and "wrong" . Let us instead talk of what things do rather than what we want to call them.

  A negative action/desire like stealing or being dishonest has a price and takes away from life, an altruistic action/desire adds to the value of life rather than taking away.

  We have an inherant nature that allows us to be directed in these two paths , this nature is beneath thought and beneath emotion, self delusion is not possible at this level of consiousness , we need to operate from this level .

  That's just my understanding of the unnamable aspect of self.

  It heals me and others around me and brings light to the world . I see it in others and it makes me smile when I do ,it's absence is appaling to me when I see it's lack in others , but it's growing each day and it's wonderful

  an ex jw friend of ours ask about 2012. her sister went to a ca and the/a speaker(s) mentioned 2012?

  this friend of ours was asking if i had noticed anything on this board about that date.

  I don't think anyone argues a first cause other than some people which hold to the solid state universe.

  The first cause would indeed qualify as God in the sense of causing all to be .The main bone of contention would be the storys that get told and the way theses storys become law .

  I don't like storys being the basis for a whole civilization like we have now . Basing the matters of policy and ethics on a spiritual belief is a backwards and primitive way to conduct life.

  I"m afraid I'm not sold on any of the storys told about God other than the one about "Only an individuals experience with the divine can determine the veracity of the divine to the individual"

  A presence can be sensed with proper effort and desire , but this presence has nothing to do with any story I have ever read .

  Is it real or imagined? Is it God or just two halves of a brain opening up to the subconsious? Hmmm in all honesty it's hard to descibe the experience of just being what we are as we are.

  That is up to the individual to decide, and I don't care for people who like to determine what that experience is for me, whatever agenda they push ,it's a part of what we are and we should be free to experience our birthright free of labels and dogma.

  Why have things changed?

  according to the old testament, yahweh/jehovah regularly and violently made himself manifest.. according to the new testament, there were miraculous works performed to prove that the messiah was who he said he was and that his followers were authentic.. why are there no such public manifestations of jehovah/yahweh/jesus/holy spirit today?

  i say public because some individuals describe very personal experiences detailing some sort of miracle or divine intervention in their lives, most often at a low or desperate point.

  i have no interest in discounting such personal experiences.

  I have a terribly dissenting point of view .

  I don't believe any of the miracles in the bible ever happened .

  I don't believe in the resurection , I don't believe Jesus raised anyone from the dead and I don't think faith healing is real in anyway shape or form .

  To me it's no more real than big foot or the easter bunny or any of the strange gods of norse mythology. As a child I wanted to believe , as a matter of fact I would like to believe it now , but it's all just some storys with a message.

  It's not real. It's all hearsay . It's undocumented . It's only words in a book nothing more.

  That being said . I still love the story of Jesus very much ,but, his message may be true but the lies told about him are not.

  Do You Realize That Satan Is Supposed To Be Almost As Powerful As Jehovah?

  my mom was telling me that we have to be especially on guard during these last days because satan the devil is setting his sights upon anyone he thinks he can get.

  i mentioned to my mother that jws give too much credit to the devil.

  i explained satan is supposed to be a single angel gone bad.

  My understanding of Satan is that his role is neccessary , according to most relgions this archtype of evil and domination is the great temptation from the light and thus ensures our seperation from our source if we choose it's dominion.

  My real life experience is that we all have this nature within us as well as the altruistic nature that is in harmony with our source.

  The evil/egoic nature is evident in our glorious leader George (the ass wipe) Bush. As well as our victim adversarys in the middle east.

  The key aspects to this nature would be the imposing of ones own will on another to the detriment of them and the agrandisment of self.

  Sound about right?

  how many people go to the grave having been exposed to only one school of thought?.

  that is the real crime , ignorance and lack of choice, not any particular belief..

  No I can't . Although I do percieve a great deal with my five senses and my other one , the one that can't be located or understood or quantified in any way

  Consiousness can't be defined although many attempt to quantify the nature of consiousness it's never been adequately defined even though it is the one thing we all have in common.

  I can not percieve my conciousness I can only experience it. It is the one thing tangible in this existence that we possess as individuals that can not be seen or touched yet we "feel"it none the less. It deiifers from thought and emotions as it is an independant entity.

  So as far as I'm concerned there is more to life than we can percieve , but I'm unwilling to allow others to label my experience and call it by what they percieve it to be.
