Colossians 1:16 seems to imply Jesus having a big role in creation. Not that it matters to me personally since I consider myself agnostic.

a second hand in creation
by drew sagan inmy purpose in this post was to get a discussion going about how the jws interpretation of christ being a separate created being assisting in the creation of all things seems to run up against the hebraic concept of a creator.
in doing some reading into some of the old rabbinical teachings i came across an interesting interpretation that made me think about jws.
it revolves around genesis 1:26 where gods states "and god said, let us make man in our image, after our likeness".

I'm a little concerned that you may be the type of person who gets taken adantage of by others. You seem very trusting and open to advice from strangers. You are also coming out of an abusive relashionship.
You do not say how you met your current love interest and just how well you know him. You say he is "wiser" than you and wants to care for you. I don't want to jump to conclusions, but sometimes controling types come accross as "knights in shinning armor" wanting to rescue a "damsel in distress".
Additionally, you were raised a witness (I was too) and that can be a sheltered way of life.
As others have posted, most of us here are no longer witnesses for one reason or another. We welcome everyone to this forum, but we don't want to mislead you.
All in all, I get the impression that what you need is to take a fresh look at life. You need to find a way to stand on your own and build some independance. Then you can analyze what is really going on around you as well as inside your head, only then will you will see your way clear. Don't be afraid to ask questions and do research. Find the truth about yourself and others.
I wish you all the best,

Here's my 2 cents: Yes, the WTS did you wrong, yes it's hard to overcome, but, it can be done. And depression and anger can be overcome as well. For some it takes meds (if one does not work, there are many others), for some it takes therapy of some sort, for others it takes a bit of both. I understand they can be expensive, but you absolutetely cannot afford to go on living life miserably.
A good book I've recommended many times is: Feeling Good by Dr. David Burns. He deliniates 10 negative thinking patterns we can fall into and how to change those patterns. However, if you have an underling chemical inbalance, you will need meds . I speak from many years of experience managing my own issues, and I too was raised a witness and feel the WTS stole my childhood.
Please don't let more of your precious life slip away in an unhappy state of mind. Don't give up, you absolutely can be happy.

russel was a commie
by 5go inone thin disk will give you a treasury of the society's outdated speculations about the fast-approaching showdown between labor and capital (russell, "the battle of armageddon," 1912) , .
did not know.
i guess calling dubs commies was correct.

Leolaia: I agree. I grew up in the Knorr era, which was all about rules and morality issues, but it was also a time of change for society in general (civil rights, sexual revolution, etc.), so he reacted to what he saw and lived (and we all know he had a stick up his butt as well). What is sad is that these past presidents could not see the forest for the trees, and that they tried to make their personal reactions and interpretations of world events sound like pronouncements from god's mouth.

Jigsaw puzzles anyone?
by Lady Lee ini love them.
there was a time when i always had one on a large cardboard that i could push under the sofa when i needed the table.
believe me they helped my sanity during my last few years as a dub.. i had to give them up when i got cats because they thought all those nice little puzzle pieces were cat-sized hockey pucks.

Did You Like Your Congregation?
by minimus inthe hall i was in the last few years was not a bad place.
most of the people were middle class, some had college educations (like the po and his wife); they generally weren't over critical.
of course there were a few elders and publishers that were pains but for the most part the people in that hall were pretty decent.

I've been in many congs throughout my life. I have no animosity towards any of them, collectively or as individuals. Each cong has it's own "spirt" some better than others. In the end all are pretty much the same, the Society had us all very well trained.

Yes, it is sad. Sad that grown-ups can't use their freedom of choice to decide what is right for them w/o being monitored.
