I don't have a mate, I have a husband. I am not in a zoo breeding programme.
I met my husband in a nightclub. His friend chatted up my friend. They never met again. We have been married for eight years.

have posted this on the other thread but just making this one as well:
i need to let you know that dad passed away this morning at 8am.
he fought so hard but in the end they could not get his blood pressure to rise and he died of heart failure.
Dear Steph, I am so sorry to hear of your dad's death. I have spent some very enjoyable hours enjoying your mum and dad's hospitality at your home, admiring the garden that gave your dad so much pleasure and meeting the dogs! It was a privilege to have met your dad.
My love to your mum Clair, your brothers and sister and you. You are all in my thoughts at this sad time.
Rachel
Lovely! Congratulations to you and Mrs. Derek!

where do you like to eat out?
what do you like to eat there?
We rarely eat out these days, but for special occasions we go to Loch Fyne
http://www.lochfyne.com/Restaurants.aspx
and share a hot lobster and seafood platter. My three year old son really enjoys the food there too.
the weekend section of the guardian on saturday had an article on the new german film die welle which is based on the infamous "third wave" experiment in california in 1967.. http://www.guardian.co.uk/film/2008/sep/13/drama.
the article had some interesting comments on why young people are attracted to these sorts of movements which i thought was relevant to why some people become jws (bold mine):.
"articulating a common disillusionment, marco one of the students complains that there is nothing to rebel against.
Thanks BurnTheShips.
I don't know what I was thinking, posting a topic like this on an "American Politics" discussion board. Sorry folks, back to your usual program................

The article had some interesting comments on why young people are attracted to these sorts of movements which I thought was relevant to why some people become JWs (bold mine):
"Articulating a common disillusionment, Marco one of the students complains that there is nothing to rebel against. "Nothing means anything any more," he says. "We all just want to have fun. What our generation lacks is a common goal to unite us."
"That's based on me when I was 17," says Gansel. "I really wanted to be part of something that made a change. My father was always telling me, 'We changed society in Berlin '68.' And I was like, 'Yeah, yeah, fantastic but I want my moment.' This is something I saw a lot of in the teenagers we interviewed. Everybody's looking for something and it's as if there's nothing left for them. The film is exactly that: the danger of what happens when there is nothing to fulfil that desire."
The Wave mirrors what happened in California where the group swelled to huge numbers before becoming violent and out of control. Ron Jones's solution was a radical one. He told his disciples that there were organisations like theirs simultaneously springing up throughout America and that they were to gather around a TV in the dining hall where they would see a live broadcast announcing their own presidential candidate. Instead, Jones jarred them to their senses by projecting a film of Nazi atrocities. The Wave's climax is different but similarly extreme, especially for a film that despite its far-fetched premise succeeds in getting natural and believable performances from its cast.
"We had to do it," says Gansel. "A large part of The Wave seems very appealing - the togetherness and community. That was the reason for this very hard and harsh ending because we knew it would be very seductive for a young audience. But my point is that if you want to make a movie about seduction, and how dangerous it is, then you have to be seductive as a film-maker." "
I think the film also demonstrates how easily normal people can be led to extreme behaviour. Nazi Germany is comfortable to consider because the ruling power was defeated, a few people were punished, and it was another time and place. It is not so comfortable to consider how easily it could happen again given an economic downturn and a convenient immigrant population.
today (29th august 2008) at 5.22pm baby meadow arrived weighing 6lb 7oz; she was born at home in a birthing pool without any medical interventions other than gas and air; both mother and baby are well (although dawn is well and truly exhausted from a 12 hour birthing).
i am immensely proud of them both.
today my world was made complete!.
WOW!
Wonderful! Congratulations Gary and Dawn, and welcome Meadow Joanne. So glad to hear everything went well - you were in the right place!

how did britain get to be third on the medals table?
that was a bit unexpected.
and beating the australians as well - they won't be pleased about that.
And the poor old Australians are presumably still trying to devise a table system that puts them ahead of Great Britain.
I'd like to see a league table of medals per capita. Or how about medals per GDP?
just a question i thought i'd put out there.
interested in your comments.
my wife and i are going to the airport this afternoon to pick up mincan, later on thursday to pick up jk , for the tahoe apostafest .
Not really. I had a couple of good "friends" in the JWs, although we weren't close towards the end due to geographical distance.
I haven't made close friends on JWD, but I have met some really lovely people. I think the main reason that I haven't made close friendships is that I already have a full life beyond being an ex-JW. It is over 14 years since I was disfellowshipped. It would have been great for me if I had access to a network of ex-JWs like this back then, but I didn't so I muddled through and gained some wonderful friends who are just normal people with no particular religious background.
I am not saying that the two are mutually exclusive, but I do think it is an important part of recovery to have people in your life who don't "get it' but try to understand, as well as ex-JWs who have all the same crazy you do!
i don't think you can, because they are completely fixated with territory maps, hours and doors to knock on (and literature to present).. how many years have jws been active in the uk?
well over a century.. how many hours were spent "preaching" in the uk last year?
must be well over 500,000 hours.. if you were to ask a member of the public what jws believe, now many would you have to ask before anyone mentioned god's kingdom?

If you were to ask a member of the public what JWs believe, now many would you have to ask before anyone mentioned God's Kingdom? 100? 1000? 1000,000? Despite all the hours they spend knocking on doors, all that people know is: No blood, no Christmas, and possibly no birthdays. If that is fulfilling their dedication, they are doing a pitiful job.
You don't need a map and a door to knock on to preach. You witness through your life and every encounter you make.
But they won't understand.
