Dawg- I listened to it (driving back from skiing). My thoughts exactly. I added Alberto Gonzalez to the list of those that ought to be imprisoned, though.

Did anyone watch 60 Minutes tonight? Carl Rove should be imprisioned.
by dawg inok, so we know for a fact the bush administration lied us into a war in which we never should have engaged.
we know they fix scientific data to meet the needs of the special interest groups who make up their constituency.
but did you know the bush team, lead by carl rove, fixed it so a governor would go to jail?...

Oops- forgot a step-
Require them to repeat what the book says (use questions)- makes it difficult to question it if you said it.

OK let me see if I got it:
- Over simplify and cherry pick scriptures
- Guilt trip
- Encourage student to self identify with material
- Love bomb
- Attribute what we say to the divine (pray with them)
- Repeat
Did I miss anything??
Wow! In most languages "teach" indicates training someone to think critically, problem solve, analyze, characterize, etc. No mention of that right???

The Borg's Current Take On The King of the North
by Rapunzel inreading aleman's intelligent and erudite posts in regard to prophecies and other things biblical got me to thinking and prompted me to ask the following question - just what is the watchtower bible and tract society's current [as of this month, february 2008] interpretation on the identity of the wicked witch king of the north?
when i was in - many moons ago in the late 1970's - the king of the north was depicted, if my memory serves me correctly, as the soviet union.
but as the expression goes, s*** happens.

I think you won't see anything in writing about this again for a long time. I bet they will try and ignore this "false prophecy" and distance themselves from it. Maybe in a couple of years there will be an article indicating that the whole thing was fulfilled when the Nazis killed a bunch of JWs and that was it for that prophecy. Similar to many of the old testament type/antitype stuff from the mind of Freddie Franz- they will ignore any big deal was ever made about this prophecy and try to minimize the collateral damage by forgetting all about it.
Besides, I doubt that any of the modern writing staff has the creativity to come up with the kind of stuff Freddie came up with.

Many will tell you that the move from Pennsylvania to New York was divinly inspired- a move that was ordained so that the Society could grow in a location where it could ship overseas and thrive in the center of modern culture. Some Bethelites have a great little speech they give about how that area in Brooklyn was like holy land. (well...before they started selling it off)
What a crock!!! It was just a slick divorce attorney's maneuver.
I always wondered why there were 2 corporations. (...well before there were 20 like now.....)

Thanks for that article Leolaia.
I just finished The Four Presidents of the Watch Tower Society by Gruss. On page 17 he says:
The author finds it more than coincidental that in the same year the divorce was finalized, Russell decided to move "Jehovah's work" to New York and to form a new corporation, later called the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society of New York, Inc., into which, no doubt, went all the joint assets of Charles and Maria Russell. His moving to New York State was an effort to avoid paying his wife the court-ordered paymetns of $100/month. "When the Pensylvania courts ordered Russell to pay alimony to his wife, he filed a plea that he had nothing with which to pay, as he had transferred all his property, evaluated at $317,000 to the Watch Tower Bible and Tract Society."
Sounds like someone pretty adept at "theocratic strategy". Not the kind, gentle icon that many have been taught to believe he was.

Related question- It appears from some things that I have read that the WT B&T Society of New York was formed so that Russell could move assets out of the WTB&TS of Pennsylvania. From what I understand the Pennslyvania corp was partially owned by Maria- so the creation of the New York corporation was really just an attempt to hide/shield marital assets from the divorce.
Has anyone here read something similar???

JW Necklaces
by fjtoth inlondon, england.
jehovah's necklaces17/02/2008nurses are calling for jehovah's witnesses to wear special bracelets and necklaces so they won't be given "sinful" blood transfusions by mistake.. most of britain's 125,000 witnesses carry pocketsized cards declaring their religious beliefs.
but nurses say that in an emergency there may be no time to check a patient's pockets.. the royal college of nursing have urged the watchtower society, which represents the witnesses, to ask members to wear the bracelets or necklaces.. .

I don't think there's enough room on most peoples forehead to tatoo all of the exceptions, clarifications, etc.
No doubt the engraved necklace thing is quietly approved by Bethel because some brother has a business selling these things.

by Mary ini'm not sure if this has been posted yet, so i took the liberty of scanning a copy.

Look at Britain's report (sorry Wales, and Scotland- in WT land its Britain, not UK)
122,412 last years average
3383 baptized
(If you add the above two- you get 125,795)
This years average- 125,808- 13 people MORE than the addition of baptized to last years average. No one left, no one got DFd, no one went inactive, and 13 more people started going out in service or were reactivated??!!!
Like I said before- somehow, at HQ they jiggered the numbers.
