less than 1/2 of them cannot identify the century when our civil war happened.. one in four thought columbus discovered america sometime after 1750.. one in three cannot name one right enumerated in the bill of rights.. three out of four cannot name the first us president.. two out of three do not know the length of term of a member of the house of representatives.. half cannot find britain on a map.. one out of four cannot find america on a map.. when my oldest daughter, who is now a physician was in 9th grade in this once-great state of california, i asked her about the three branches of our federal government.

she was clueless and told me she would take civics in her junior year in high school.

Fool. I would be happy to name them, and as I said they are my friends. The first is Steven Cox, who runs the entire Humanities department at the University of California, San Diego. He is a well-known publisher of books and a worldwide authority on Ayn Rand and Isabel Patterson. He has written a number of books, and we have met and dined many times, all on his tab. He contacted me around 2,000 and invited me to lunch and encouraged me to write a book on the JW religion. He is a student of the JW religion, but he has never been one. Look up Steven Cox on the internet. He is pretty famous. Contact him. Ask him if he knows me. The next one I mentioned is David Farrally who used to post here as "Gedanken". He is a professor of quantum mechanics and teaches at Utah State University in Logan, Utah. That is where I met him. He also worked at Univerisity of California Berekly and Princeton and was a Professor at UCLA. We both collaborated on a web site called jwbloodreview.org. He has flown me to his home for Christmas where we exchanged ideas and a wonderful and traditional British Christmas dinner (he is a Brit.)

I know. I was born and grew up and graduated High School in Utah. Salt Lake City, to be precise. I had a wonderful undergraduate education there. I've perused the book. That is not exactly nearly enough to offer any reasoned review of it.

The author seems a bit insecure because he injects his airplane experience into just about every page. Ok. It's wonderful you were a seasoned pilot. I haven't seen (so far) any serious (or new) research, just stuff I already knew, and lots of anecdotes as I glanced through the chapters.

He (so far) looks like Schnell in style and presentation. However, I will read the book, much as I'm not looking forward to it from what I've seen so far.

But that is not what I argued. In fact, you quoted what I argued:

Bottom-of-the-barrel does not necessarily mean GPA's as you implied with your straw man argument. It can and does also mean those who take breezy classes and lots of liberal arts classes, too. They can score well in those classes, but that does not mean they are well educated as those who take much tougher ones. I have several friends who are professors, both of whom have taught at major universities, including Princeton, UCLA, and UC Berkely. They were the ones who told me this from their first hand experience. Yes, it is anecdotal, but they had no axe to grind, because they were educators, too.

Besides, if educators are better than I suggested and as good as you implied, why, in all of my schooling (when I good a GOOD primary education) can I only recall 3 of them as memorable and discard the rest of them as terrible or at best, mediocre)? What is YOUR experience growing up? Everyone I have spoken to about this subject has an experience similar to mine.

Scandanavia in toto has less population than California, which is only ONE of our States. Norway has 5,000,000 people whch is a little more than 1/2 of that of New York City, only ONE if cur cities. Your numbers are useless in that context.

Socialism might work well with say, 5,000,000 people. Maybe. it doesn't work well with 500,000,000 people, or in the case of China, which has effectively eliminated it, in the case of 2,000,000,000 people.

Home-schooled children do MUCH better in all areas of education. That is a fact.

It's the teachers. Nay, it is the unions who protect crappy teachers and won't let them get weeded out. Anyone who knows academia knows that those who graduate from the Universities and go into teaching are are the bottom-of-the-barrel of the college graduates.

Some of them are crappy, some of them are so-so and some of them are awesome. I can name 3 of them who were awesome and those three changed my life, and I will bet that most honest readers on this thread can name no more than that. I can also name the rest of them as totally forgettable.

Today, most students cannot name even three of them.

The teachers unions protect the losers and they hate the winners who rock the boat for the losers.

I blame them, and I blame the NEA for sticking their Federal fingers into the State's education system by plying them with stolen taxpayer money in order to promote their dumb-down agenda. I blame George Bush. Hell, I blame ALL he Feds. And I especially blame the whores in the States who take that stolen money and become beholden to the Federal government because they won't let the communities and parents decide what kind of education is best for their children.

Our screwed up educational system is due to several things: Teachers Unions which protect shitty teachers who are not educating our children, Federal Government intervention and local communities rolling over and not fighting all that evil.

So in response to that poster I quoted above, the last bastion for a good education for our children, provided the parents have one, is home-schooling or private schooling.

Our public schooling system has failed them.

How can I stop hating the JW religion?

having this spiritual division between my wife and i over the years has been very draining in many ways.

so much so that i find myself more and more hating everything having to do with the wtbts especially when i just see watchtower literature.

i've kind of always felt that way but it's getting worst.

It's the same thing, and the withdrawals are both painful. And they are both worth it.

Blue pill or red pill. They both have their benefits and they both have their disadvantages. I cannot possibly see any long-term benefit for being enslaved to a cult where the leaders don't care the least about you, but only care about what you can give THEM.

You really should be rejoicing, given the alternative. You cannot live the life of your wife even if you wanted to do it.. You can only live your own life.
