15 minutes of fame?
by eyeslice inhas anyone here had their experience printed in any of the publications or their photo used in an encouraging illustration (field service, answering at meetings, etc.)?.
the reason i ask is that often public talk outlines make references to experiences, but on occasions a note is sent by the society to the effect not to include a certain experience.
presumably, this erasing from history is because the person referred to in the original outline is no longer in good standing or perhaps wasnt as saintly as originally made out.

Islam ? is it even more rules based that JWs?
by eyeslice inthe passage below is an extract from salman rushdie's satanic verses.
as you well know, he is not the greatest of religion, in particular islam, and by way of a return compliment, the world of islam is not his greatest fan either.
in this extract, salman the persian reflects on the multitude of rules and regulations this purveyor of new religion, the prophet mohammed, has laid down for the faithful.

Anyone read Philip Pullman?
by eyeslice ini once managed to weave a long passage from the firework maker's daughter into the introduction of a public talk (the bit about uncle rambashie's river taxi) and so was hooked on philip pullman long before he published his 'dark materials' trilogy.
i have since read all three dark materials books which seem to me to be pretty hard on god and organised religion.. forget harry pooter, they're kids stuff, these books are very dark!.

Is your life behind or ahead of you?
by eyeslice inmrs eyeslice and i have a very close friend in the "truth" who has recently had a torrid time breaking up with her non-jw husband.
she has been very emotionally drained and down just lately, feeling she has nothing ahead of her.
but come on, she is only 38 years old, is a very attractive lady and has most of her adult life ahead of her.

Associating with worldinglings when on Vacation &Travelling?
by eyeslice inin another thread today, stillajwexelder cites his passion as travel.
i would say that is one of my passions too.. one thing i have noticed, with myself when a witness and in other too, is that association with 'wordlings' is strictly taboo when at home but things are different when on vacation or traveling.
i have made a slight distinction between being on vacation and traveling, in that to me traveling, has the idea of backpacking and roughing it in exotic countries.
