  Were you Raised by an " Elder " Father in the Witnesses ?

  as i mentioned on another thread , it was very uncommon to ever get any commendation or recognition for any " good" accomplishments i ever did.

  you know the jesus expression, " we are good for nothing slaves- what we have done is what we ought to have done.

  " ridiculous.

  No but I was raised by a Ministerial Servant and I must say that overall I had a great childhood. I became and elder myself and raise 4 kids in the 'truth' But I could see the whole thing starting to fall apart for kids. As a kid growing up I had lots of privileges and responsibilties but I saw nothing for my kids; general the organisation has no regard for young ones today - they certainly don't trust them.

  I have encouraged by kids to go to University and get an education. That was one of the many reasons I decided to leave.

  Slumdog Millionaire! Go see it!

  i just got back from seeing it and it is fantastic.

  all i can say is go see it!.

  it was so moving, kept me gripped for the whole time and now i wanna go to india.. also the leading lady, frieda pinto is beautiful..

  We went to see it last week and really enjoyed it.

  We have been to Mumbai 5 or 6 times, and we lived in India in the late 90's so have a feel for the location and the culture. A very clever put together story and the acting from the kids was outstanding. Finally, don't jump up to go when the credits start at the end or you'll miss the only Bollywood style song and dance routine at the end.

  Sychelles Island crash proved you can't land a plane on water!

  i was an advocate of the idea that a sea landing is beyond impossible for any pilot.

  some years ago terrorists hijack a plane in africa and demand to be flown to australia.

  the pilot runs out of fuel at the sychelles islands and ditches in the sea with most passengers dead or drowned.

  Looks to me like the trick was to get it perfectly level at the point of impact. Perhaps it helped it was a river and not the sea.

  I am no longer a JW but I still regard myself as a spiritual person. I am not sure where that spirituality will lead me and I don't practice any religion at present.

  I got baptised before the change of vows, I didn't regard my baptism as identifying me as one of JWs, so I regard my baptism of over 40 years ago as the start of my spiritual journey.

  I loved Tahiti - great place and great place.

  Been to many of the World Heritage sites in India.

  Jaisalmer in India, on the border with Pakistan is totally magically!

  The Himalayas are breath taking.

  There are just some great places in the world yet for us to find them - those are our dream destinations!

  this is exciting, if only for the cognitive dissonance it has to cause jws.

  and since a "worldy" member of my family worked as an engineer on a spectrometer going into the pheonix mar's lander, i get to make sure my witness family partakes in that cognitive dissonance.. .

  Well I haven't been to a metting in 5 years, I was a pillar of the local congregation and my wife is still is a zealous witness but still I haven't been contacted yet.

  I have been thinking about what I will say when I get a visit. I think that lack of any genuine concern is going to be high on the list. The local elders are probably slightly scared of ex-elders who probably know too much, but having said that, I think that I had visit from an elder and the DO since I left. So much for a loving and concerned organization!

  Slumdog Millionaire

  this movie was apparently loved by a lot of regular movie-goers and critics alike.

  kelly ripa raved about it on the "live" show, and said it seeing it was a life-altering (or maybe she said life-changing) experience.

  either way..... i saw it ....and it left me cold!

  We went to see it last night and really enjoyed it.

  However, having said that we have been to Mumbia 5 or 6 times and know India very well, so many of its themes are very familiar to us.

  I know many of the things portrayed in the movie do actually happen in India but it would be wrong to assume it is all like that.
