Talk about re-cycled rubbish. This is really old - word of mouth has just become internet junk.

There is no sense of direction from the Governing Body. They continue to spew out platitudes - "the end is near", "keep on the watch", "do more in the preaching".
The elderly do not know what to think but are told to "trust in Jehovah". No wonder this religion is going nowhere.

I too have spoken to my active wife about this and get the impression that this isn't going down well with the R&F.
I suggested that if the reason for the change was the cost of travel then it makes sense to keep the local book study and get rid of the mid-week meeting and just have a local mid-week meeting and a congregation meeting on Sunday. But sense does rule with the society. -

What happened to the simplicity of the early church?
by Pahpa inearly christians were drawn together by their love of christ and each other.
most were just hard working average people who had little education and no understanding of the philosophies of the world.
the gospel message of the kingdom and the future hope of life everlasting were the basis of their simple faith.

Certainly the JWs have lost all semblance of simplicity. Losing the Tuesday night book study in private homes to me is another step away from the simplicity of the early church. The fact Paul taught from 'house to house' is often mis-quoted by the Watchtower Society; in reality he was referring to his teaching believers in their own homes as he visited them.

"The organization is certainly putting forth a concerted effort to eliminate any kind of individual creativity in terms of research and delivery. The programs are becoming more robotic and mechanical."
It amazes too. When my wife was at the meeting on Sunday I read through a spare copy of the Watchtower for the study for that day. Now a days it instructs which scriptures are to be read. As far as I can see, it would take me no preparation at all to give a model Watchtower study. Just get up ask the questions and get the scriptures read. I think that the average witness must be totally bored out of their minds. -

Ovation Guitar anyone?
by Simon ini used to play the guitar quite a bit but haven't practiced seriously for quite a few years (and left my guitar in the uk when we moved over here).. yesterday i decided i should get myself a guitar again so i popped into a music store and had a strum on a few.. the ovation guitars seemed really nice and not too expensive.
does anyone have one or have any experience of them?
i would love the electic one they do that can also sound acoustic but can't really justify spending so much so would probably get a regular wood / round-backed one.. thanks.

Why not have a look at a made in Canada guitar - see http://www.simonandpatrick.com
Simon and Patrick guitars are beautifully made but a bit out of my price range I am afraid. -

October Awake
by stillajwexelder inthe october awake is "your child and the internet"
they note that restricting the internet by having the pc in the front room not the child's bedroom is no longer practical as the internet can be accessed from cell phones etc.

Hang on a minute folks.
I have read the Awake in question and it isn't that bad, in fact I think the subject of the internet and kids needs to be addressed. Parents have to be made aware of the dangers of allowing kids unlimited access to the Internet. I consider myself to be the most liberal of parents, but I still put Net Nanny on my home computer. Not protesting our kids from the very real dangers that the internet can pose, would be, in my opinion, like allowing your guys free reign to play on the highway.

Shouldn't JWs Ban Wedding Receptions Because of their Pagan Origins?
by neverendingjourney inwell, nah, because jesus attended a wedding reception and provided kick a$$ wine.
but, modern day jw's are all about removing anything fun from life, so they should consider it for this reason alone.
one more fun thing bites the dust.

I don't know about banning them because of pagan origins, but I do detect a level of paranoia with large gathering and the possibility that people will have a good time and get a little tipsy or drunk.
But what the heck, I went to a large 'worldly' wedding just last week and there was no goings on that I wouldn't have expected a JW wedding.
JW's on the whole are just kill joys. -

I am not sure myself – it seems to me the best are skinny with no busts – perhaps not my ideal of the sexiest of women!

I think of friends as the people that I share my day to day life with. The people who live next door. The people who I go out with on a Saturday night for a few beers and may be a meal. The people whose weddings, or weddings of their kids more like now a days, I go to. The people I help move when they move house. The people who help me when I have car trouble. Real friends, in the real world.
I guess that there is now a different class of friends. People we share our on-line life with. JWD has been a great way of bringing like minded people together for support and encouragement, and for that I am grateful.
