Let's Be Honest - You or One of Your Ancestors Was an Idiot
by Simon inwhy were we ever a jw?
were we mad?
we must have been .... well, my excuse is that i knew nothing else.

Interesting thread, thanks for posting. I'm an offspring of " idiots " actually. I was born into the JW's also. Got out 13 years ago at age 44. Although my parents did well providing materially for the family- my dad was a legend in his own mind for years- very well known elder who reveled in being looked at in our town as the " Big Kahuna " .
I feel that the WT uses flattery and love bombing to turn people's minds off to the doubts screaming inside. Then once a person like my dad gets " used " by the WT Society which is considered " progressing in position " in the JW organization it goes to their head and through 60 years of being in the cult he got SO invested he believed all the false promises and delusions, plus his ego was stroked turning off his mind to reality.
I think the WT Society appeals to people who are lacking self esteem or lacking any real fulfilling accomplishments in their lives , also the JW organization actually LOOKS for people who are insecure or searching for comfort in their lives. ANY kind of comfort. Even the " illusionary paradise " which will make them forget loss of loved ones in death, going through a divorce, a broken family- anybody who is needy is very susceptible to being drawn in by a cult.
I remember as a former JW I'd hear others say out in field service about a return visit using this expression " they were searching for something, looking for the truth " .
So of course the WT Society is right there to offer their scam of imaginary " eternal Life " and imaginary " you'll never die or be sick again " - and people just eat this shit up- I swear. So I think that's what happened to my dad and mom . Now in their early 90's and late 80's they are too invested with my older adult siblings still in the JW cult- they feel they can't leave. And like you I look at my folks situation with pity. Like all of us- they will die eventually , sooner than later - and they were promised they'd never die. One reason I'm constantly calling the WT Society a criminal organization that uses people's lives up, then spits them out and just moves on as a corporate monster. Pretty disturbing. Mind control is powerful. As well as false promises. Lots of JW's and other cults alive and well due to these facts

Canada - Macleans article, Oct. 28, 2016: A Jehovah’s Witness and her deadly devotion
by AndersonsInfo inhttp://www.macleans.ca/news/a-jehovahs-witness-and-her-deadly-devotion/.
a jehovah’s witness and her deadly devotion.
did a jehovah’s witness die after refusing a blood transfusion, and should the state have let it happen?.

Zelezen stated, " When we got there, three men from the church, one who was all in black, blocked us from going into the room . Five minutes later she was dead. Everyone who came out of the room was a Jehovah's witness. "
Tells us all we need to know about how Jehovah's Witnesses roll. The young ladies that this JW woman babysat weren't even allowed to see her before she died. Just disgusting, freaking disgusting. WT Society needs to be brought up on crimes against humanity. Bad enough that this little boy will not have his mother to raise him due to idiotic WT no-blood policies- but to add to that lack of compassion for these young ladies is abominable. The whole damn thing is abominable

As I stated on another thread concerning this- all these JW's are getting the rug literally pulled out from underneath them and they don't even know it. Those that DO suspect or know it- are too invested in the cult for life and can't admit to themselves they are being taken and conned big time

so let me get this straight.. the borg moves into their new corporate country club....
by nowwhat? inwith their luxurious lakeside condos.
takes all the congregations funds promising new kingdom halls.
but instead starts selling off kingdom halls ..then makes faithful old brothers and sisters drive 20-30 miles to another one, and .kicks out half the bethelites for only only tech savy college educated ones.can barely afford to send out printed publications anymore.

All these J-dubs are getting the rug pulled out from under them- and they don't even know it. Or most don't want to admit it because they're too invested for life. Incredible

You must be the only one in your congregation that sees this- if none of the JW's you know haven't mentioned it . Never underestimate the power of cult mind control.
Then again- some of the JW's you know probably are worried in their private thoughts- but are too much in fear of elders or the " discipline " or " counsel " they'd receive if they talked about their doubts openly- because everybody rats each other out in JW land

Well, this just confirms all of our recent suspicions concerning the sell offs of kingdom halls and consolidation situations going on. WT is trying to get it's ducks in a row " using " the elders ( of course ) to make sure these buildings are well maintained before the many sales and consolidation of kingdom halls. And just to make sure the WT puts the little part in there about realizing who really owns the kingdom halls. I like Shadows point about them reporting theft or damage to kingdom halls to police- yet they won't do it regarding child abuse unless contacting Bethel legal. Shows WT leaders priorities for sure. Greedy sons of bitches -

Do you feel regret?
by HereIgo into help me move on after leaving the org and to maintain my sanity, i have worked on not regretting the time i spent in it.
granted, i have only been out 6 years and was 22 when i left, i still was an active jw from age 16-22. those were prime times of my youth that i will never get back.
i wanted to play high school football and basketball but couldn't.

HEREIGO- I hear what you're saying. I feel it too at times, the regrets. I feel it's only human to have regrets and wonder what might have been if we weren't so restricted as born-in JW's. I was a born-in JW from birth and finally exited at age 44 over 13 years ago. Raised by a fanatic JW elder dad in a well known JW family in our area- he had big plans for me, i.e. becoming an elder , and a prospective " example " to the congregation.
My freshman coach in high school wanted me to be on the baseball team as I had considerable skills- but my elder dad forbid me as it would interfere with Tuesday night meetings. Like yourself- I was not allowed to attend college and was expected to either got to bethel or pioneer. I chose the latter as I would hate institution life at Bethel as I've always been a free spirit. In time I saw through the politics of people " reaching out" to get " privileges " as being more really " standing out " to get " noticed " as being more " spiritual " than others in the congregation.
Be glad you got out in your 20's instead of your mid 40's - less time spent as a JW to regret . That being said the JW cult didn't rob me of everything. I've also taken up music the last 5 years playing guitar and writing songs- even producing albums now to sell in local stores or the Internet as downloads. Just the freedom of pursuing my music has helped make up for some of the loss and pain I personally experienced at the hands of this vicious cult backed by the WT Society.
So after 13 years out I'm more of a " live in the moment " or " live in the here and now " guy than dwelling on my JW past anymore. That's water under the bridge. I'd rather row forward in my lifeboat and enjoy the positive experiences I get now through reading, learning, playing music, and just appreciating the people in my life that matter who see me for who I really am - just a man who wants freedom of mind for himself , his loved ones, and his friends.
Like Happy Gal said I have NEVER regretted leaving the Witnesses though. One of the best decisions I ever made in my life. Having so much more freedom of movement in life is exhilarating like a breath of fresh air. When I left it was like a ton of bricks got lifted off my shoulders. And it still feels that way- 13 years later. It will get better for you in time I promise. Take care, Peace out, Mr. Flipper

Consolidations of congregations
by TheWonderofYou inhttp://www.simcoereformer.ca/2016/10/21/jehovahs-witnesses-fold-in-port-dover.
where have the witnesses gone?
the remaining 20 witnesses will travel to the neighbour churches now.

It would be interesting to hear from folks all over the U.S. or elsewhere how MUCH of this consolidation is going on. I know in the United States in Ohio and other states many congregations are consolidating and the WT Society has indeed fancied itself as a " real estate " company now. It's amazing the level of greed in WT leaders. Pretty sick
