so, what do you think about the bible?
is it really ispired of god?.
i am strongly believing that the bible is nothing more than folk-tales, half-truths, and suggestions by man.

The anti-war Dean is looking up the creek without a paddle, however. Tomorrow's foreign-policy speech will be interesting.

When Christians understand why they reject inspiration of the holy writings of other religions, then they will understand why I reject inspiration of the bible.

Celebratory Gunfire Rings Out in Baghdad |
1 hour, 27 minutes ago |
By DAFNA LINZER, Associated Press Writer
BAGHDAD, Iraq - Celebratory gunfire rang out across the Iraqi capital, radios played festive music, drivers honked their horns and passengers on buses and trucks chanted "They got Saddam, they got Saddam," as word of the former dictator's capture spread from car to car and shop to shop on a sun-filled Sunday afternoon.
|
U.S. troops stationed around the country cheered when they heard the news and held back as Iraqis fired their guns in the air. Iraqi journalists gave U.S. officials a standing ovation and cheered wildly when video of a captured Saddam was shown during a news conference announcing the arrest.
But not everyone was happy and many said they wanted proof that the man in U.S. custody is the real Saddam Hussein ( news - web sites ).
"I heard the news, but I'll believe it when I see it," said Mohaned al-Hasaji, a 33-year-old who owns a cosmetics shop on Baghdad's bustling Karada street. "They need to show us that they really have him."
Outside his shop a paper boy sold copies of Sunday's edition of Shaheed, or the Witness, a weekly newsmagazine whose cover story was graced with photos of Saddam and banned headline that asked "Who's the real Saddam?"
At the Palestine hotel, where foreign journalists and American contract workers are staying, Abil Daoud was sad.
"We lost our only hope and now we are stuck with the Americans," said Daoud, who is employed by U.S. troops as a local security guard. Some called Saddam a "coward" for getting caught. Others were glad he didn't die a martyr.
"He killed my son Mohammed and he tortured his people," said Halem a-Jassen, 40, as she celebrated in the street.
Members of the Iraqi Communist Party, which was banned and persecuted under Saddam's rule, passed around bags of candy and raised red flags outside their party headquarters.
A Shiite cleric named Azhad al-Faili thanked the Almighty "for ridding the world of the tyrant."
Ayet Bassem, who wore the traditional black cloak of religious Muslim women, was overcome with a sense of relief.
"Things will be better for my son," she said, clutching the hand of six-year-old Zenalbadin. "My son now has a future."
With random gunfire in the streets, she said it was time to go home and leave the shopping for later.
Worried shopkeepers hurried to close up their businesses early and get home before the shooting increased.
Among them was Yehya Hasson.
"I'm very happy. Now we can start a new beginning."
Very very good news. Hopefully this will be handled astutely by the American Administration and Hussein will be tried and executed by an Iraqi court.
All in all the icing on a very good quarter, economically and politically.

what an audacious question!
" wow, bradley -- how could you stoop to such levels?
do you consider most people as simple sleepwalkers through life not paying much attention to reason, logic, science, history and a desire to understand?
Logan:
Britain (and the allies) were not aggressors in WW II, they were on the defensive.
To begin with, yes. Yet even then they were still combatative, still agressively active, and a good job too. They were most certainly militant.
The Nazis were fascist hyper-nationalists whose goal was Arayan supremecy and genocide of "inferior races."
Ah, well now we're getting to the point. Their goal was Aryan supremacy and genocide of "inferior races". This is racism, not nationalism. I would say that they fall more readily under the category of "militant racism". After all, if it was militant nationalism, what nation were they militating (is that a word?) Germany? Maybe, but Hitler was Austrian. Nor did the Nazis really wish to fight Britain, they would have much rather Britain was won over to their side by the British Nazis active at the time. Nope, it was race that was the crux, not nationality.
any attempts to obfuscate that point could be equated simply as a defense of the hypernationalist militancy we personally advocate.
It could be equated that way, if we were to engage in a logical fallacy i.e.
1) Militant Nationalism = X definition
2) Expatbrit doesn't agree with definition X.
3) Therefore Expatbrit must be a militant nationalist trying to obfuscate, because Militant Nationalism = X definition (return to step 1)
I'm sure there's a name for that one. Circumstantial Ad Hominem, I think?

According to my Oxford, "nationalism" is defined as "patriotic feeling, principles or efforts; policy of national independence."
"Militant" is "engaged in warfare; combatative, aggressively active."
Given those definitions, a good example of militant nationalism would be Britain during World War II.
And was Nazism really an example of militant nationalism? If so, which nationality specifically?

Aztec:
A bit off-topic for this thread, but you mentioned that the places you are applying for all say that you are overqualified. I'm certain that this is in fact the case, but may I ask: how do they know that you are overqualified? Is it from your resume which probably lists all your qualifications and experience?
If this is so, you might want to consider tailoring your resume, perhaps having several versions which have varying levels of qualifications and experience emphasised. After all, it's not actually compulsory for you to tell prospective employers everything about yourself, nor is there any moral imperative for you to do so. Finding and negotiating employment is like a card game, and you don't have to show all your cards right at the beginning.
When you go for interviews, you might want to consider tailoring yourself for the job, rather than the other way around. Once you have the job, of course, you are in a much better position to go for other jobs which require higher qualifications, because it's always easier to move from employment to employment rather than unemployment to employment.
Something to consider.
