  somebody is always insisting they have an invisible and mysterious source of divine information and selling it like hotcakes and syrup.

  but, why are you still buying?

  I always look forward to Terry's posts. They are thought-provoking. He presents subjects that actually make you use your brain cells to look closely at your own beliefs. That doesn't mean he's going to change anyone's mind about anything, but then again, something in the way you think might change or be altered in some way. Your carefully thought-out reply might do the same thing.

  SCI FI fans - looking for a story I read 35 yrs ago

  i read this in a collection i got from the school library.. a man wakes up from cryogenic sleep, to see a painted bust.

  he is restrained.. turns out he is the last human, and the robots have attempted to keep him alive by painting a statue so he is not shocked by their appearance.. the lead robot becomes known as "sister.

  " the man explains puns, and extends its programming for original thnking.

  Oh, no, guys, L. Ron Hubbard is absolutely great (not the Scientology stuff though). But his Mission Earth Dekaology was really fascinating and won several awards. I loved his stuff. Battlefield Earth was excellent but the movie sucked. Hubbard had a "unique" mind for lack of a better word.

  I've said this in other threads about this topic before. I'm not certain it's "official" hypnosis, but something is going on. Last time I went, approximately 16 mos. ago (just to appease a very nice "sister"), I thought the drone-like demeanor was spooky. I felt like I was in the Twilight Zone. Also, Brother PO fell asleep during the talk and his wife sitting next to him didn't even nudge him.

  JT -- You're right in that one cannot confine God to such a small definition. Religion and religious writings are man's way of interacting with the Divine Presence then making some sort of attempt to explain the experience. It comes off looking and sounding SO SMALL! By doing this, they create as you call it, a tribal deity! This is not GOD.
