  1973 District Convention

  i spent the weekend with some relatives.

  they have an fairly extensive library of jw material going back 50 years in their spare bedroom.

  i was looking at a few items when i found a program for the divine victory convention held in winnipeg, manitoba in 1973. the convention lasted 5 days.

  I was nine yrs old for that one. Ours was at the Puyallup Faigrounds and everyone fiqured this would be the last one. I always hated any of the assemblies, they were such a pain in the ass. Since we lived so close we allways had at least one family staying at our house. Almost always they were obnoxious and I was glad when they left and I got my room back.

  I also remember the international one in Vancouver BC, I think that one was six or seven days. It rained the entire time and they ran out of food everyday. The restrooms had incredibly long lines, it was a complete train wreck. I do not miss them for a minute.

  Snow .................again.

  it snowed here at the end of december and i said then that it usually doesn't snow here in the seattle area until january or february.. well.............they predicted a big snowstorm last night, and it didn't happen, but it's snowing now, really hard.

  not sure if it will last long, because the weather forecasters can't seem to predict much correctly, other than rain and wind.. i was hoping to take pictures but it's dark, so will have to wait until morning.

  a cold front is supposedly going to last awhile here, so the snow should be around for a few days this time..

  Gee......... I can't wait. It was 5 degrees at our place last fri and sat AM. It warmed up to 10 deg this AM. But it's not raining so I will try to enjoy it for what it's worth. And even better we are not getting those wonderful ice storms like in other parts.

  JW answer: We have been struggling with that one alot. And the definition is subject to change without notice.

  Question: What about the fall of 1975?

  JW answer: (smirkingly) Never heard of it!

  Question: Did Jerusalem really fall in 607 BCE?

  JW answer: Hell if I know, they just told Ray Franz to go with 607 because it fit that 1914 formula really cool.

  or in service, or just by jws period... me, i was notorious for doodling in my literature.

  when i was about 12, i got caught drawing the led zeppelin logo in my bible by the meanest elder in the hall.

  my mother wouldn't let me out of the house for about 2 months!

  When I was about 5 or 6 yrs old me and a friend were in the KH bathroom having sword fights with our pee. We got busted by an elder but he did not tell our parents exactly what we were doing. He just said we were misbehaving so we did not get into as much trouble. I really thought I was going die for that one.

  what kind of scandals have you heard about within the society?

  i mean ones that seem at least valid.

  there is a congregation close to me that had a number of the members df'd (including some elders and ms) due to wife swapping.

  I would have figured that this post would have been on the fourth page by now. I have another one but it would be way too graphic to put on the forums. If I can fiqure out how to re-word about half of it I will give it a shot. Since I am still very new here I have not got a complete thumbnail sketch of what's offensive here to some.

  How many people must be involved for it to be considered a scandal?

  Good luck Coolcat! Read as many posts here as you can and you will see that there is life after the Borg. Find someone who is allready out to be a "bridge" for you. The canyon between the Borg and the real world is very wide and to get across it you really need a "bridge". That is what worked best for me.

  I have never been happier then when I left and I have no regrets. You will also find that your JW "friends" were never really your friends which will only reinforce to you what you left. Shunning is actually a blessing in disguise. Do you really want your JW friends to stay in contact with you when all they are going to do is try to get you to come back? I want them to leave me alone because I do not have any further use for them. Shunning keeps you from having to tell them to go away.

  so my mom called as promised today.

  she really didn't have much to say besides she stands by what she has to say in her letter.

  (i can no longer stay over night at her place when i fly out there, i am limited in the things i can talk to her about) i told her that it really isn't in my own best financial interest to visit anymore as i not only have to pay for a ticket and rental car, but now i have to worry about staying in a hotel.

  Wait until you have kids. Alot of JW parents play that game until they become grandparents and then everything changes. They can some how rationalize associating with you so they can see thier grand kids. The Borg has very little influence on our inate biology. That doesn't mean using our kids as communication tools but they sometimes allow our parents to be able to see the trees from the forest.

  " (30:17){ezekiel 30:17} "aven" means "vanity, wickedness," and "the young men of aven" seems to refer to the strong ones of big business giving worship to the selfish and wicked things which are vain.
