I am so sorry to hear this. My tears are for your loss.
i joined this site about a week ago and have enjoyed reading all the posts and chatter.
i was raised in the jws, baptized at 17 (didn't know any better) but once i got married and had a baby, i just didn't have enough time to go to all the meetings during the week.
we got the "shepherding calls" and pretty much were looked down on for not going to all the meetings.
Welcome neighbor - I live in the west valley (but visiting in Georgia for a while right now).
Your stories are great - you will be an interesting addition to this group.
i joined this forum a couple of days ago and didn't want to just keep lurking, so here goes!.
my family have been jw's since before i was born, i was baptized at 12.i have six sisters, only one who still attends meetings.
my mom and stepdad no longer attend either.. i met and married my so in the congregation that i attended.
Welcome tribalgirl - this is a good place to be.
anyone allergic to them (if you're allergic to eggs, avoid them please).. i'm getting mine for the 15th year in a row come saturday.
haven't had a flu during the past 15 years.
linda.
I just got my flu shot this week. There has been no adverse reactions over the 10 to 15 years I have been getting them (yet). I used to get strep throat and tonsillitis every year - sometimes a couple times a year. Ever since I started getting the flu shot I hardly even get a cold. An MD said that has nothing to do with the flu shot. Perhaps it is a coincidence but I haven't wanted to test it.
I have had the flu so bad 3 or 4 times many years ago that I really felt like death would have been better.
Thanks for the info on mercury. I had no idea it was in the shots. Guess I'll have to think about next year.
i hope that some of you lurkers out here really take a look at some of the thread in this section of the board.
this awake magazine says not one thing about how families are asked to trust their elders and how these very elders were and are abusing their children.
it mentions nothing about watching out for these trusted men in the congregations.............oh it brings out the internet, other family members and fathers and males in particular.. it will tell you how much your child needs to do to prevent something like this from happening.
A few weeks ago an elder stopped by the residence I was visiting. He approached me with this Awake and a WT. When I saw them I said, Oh, I've been wanting to read that Awake. He must have thought he had a live one ready for conversion.
I tried to give him the WT back as I only wanted the Awake but he wouldn't take it. I explained to him the reason I wanted to read it was because of the 9 pedofile lawsuits the Society just settled earlier this year with 16 victims and paid out millions of $$$. He was not aware of them. I made a comment about the WTS covering up their pedofile cases and I was curious what they had to say in this magazine. His response was that the WTS does not cover up child molesting. I told him that was not true - they have been doing it for decades.
I just happened to have my printout of the 98 page summary Barbara Anderson did on the CD beside me in my car and reached in and pulled it out. I turned to the Telememo and showed it to him and asked that he read the last item on page 2 where they are trying to put the blame on the victim.
This very thing was mentioned in the article too where they say some try to blame the victim.
I also had printouts from America's Most Wanted and the latest guy from Britain and showed those to him.
After talking a few minutes, the elder realizes I have been a JW in the past and asks me if I believe the WTS is the true religion. I just laughed at him and said, That's what elders ask when they are wanting to disfellowship you.
He left shortly and I have not heard from him again.
That Awake made me furious. While reading it I was writing notes all over the margins. Oh, he did not ask for a donation and I did not offer him one either.
carl olof jonsson has now made available the correspondence between himself and the wts during 1977-1980.. go to the following page and follow the link.. http://user.tninet.se/~oof408u/fkf/english/epage.htm doug.
Thank you so much for the link.
My son has just finished reading The Gentile Times Reconsidered (he's not a JW). ThIs correspondence will show some history behind the book.
how do your minds work people??.
the word 'cult'.
who is comfortable saying they were raised in a 'cult' or were brainwashed temporarily by a 'cult'?.
I was born and raised in it. I was always embarrassed to tell anyone I was a JW but never thought of it as a Cult until 1978. When reading about Jim Jones & Jonestown I noticed many similarities and that word "Cult" stuck in the back of my mind. It was about then I seriously started fading.
Now I freely admit I was raised in a Cult and proud to be out.
i am interested in getting a copy of the cd.
has anyone downloaded it anywhere for mass distribution?
I guess it is okay to steal from the WT, but it is not okay to steal from anyone else?
The Watchtower Society does NOT sell literature so how can downloading it be stealing it?
As they said in their 2/9/1990 letter to all BOE in the US and its Territories - "... Although we have always offered the Society's literature on a contribution basis, Supreme Court decisions [Jimmy Swaggart case] have opened the way for secular authorities to possibly categorize our literature disbribution as commercial activity. To prevent this misportrayal of the spiritual nature of our activity and to continue to give the good news of the Kingdom the widest possible distribution, we are adjusting the Society's literature distribution arrangement.
... the Society is adjusting its method of literature distribution by going to a complete donation method. This will underline the fact that we are not motivated by financial interests when preaching the good news. We are 'not peddlers of the word of God as many men are, but as out of sincerity, yes, as sent from God,' we are declaring the good news of the Kingdom." [emphasis added]
My father's family donated over $500,000 to the Society last year. I will never donate one red cent to the WTS and will download any publication with a free conscience.
