Predictions for the next decade?
by jehovaxx inas it’s nearly the new year my prediction over the next decade or so will see the sense of urgency dwindle.
then some huge huge changes.
for example by 2034 in a decades time, they will have address the 1914 issue and will come out and say we can’t be dogmatic.

Vidqun : Earnest, [John] probably quoted Greek Theodotion.
Possibly, but Theodotion apparently lived at the end of the second century CE. There was an early revision of the Old Greek among the Dead Sea Scrolls (8HevXII) containing Zechariah, but only fragments which do not include chapter 10. No doubt the whole of this scroll existed in the time of John. Interestingly, this is one of the Greek scrolls containing the tetragrammaton.

It must be the same reason that John left it out when he translated the verse in John 19:37 :
And again another scripture [Zechariah 12:10] says They will look on the one [ὃν] they have pierced
John is not quoting from the LXX, so either he is quoting from another Greek translation existing at the time, or he is translating the Hebrew himself. Either way, he clearly accepts this translation as accurate.

It may be worth pointing out (again) that the 2009 Watchtower (p.6, para.19), on how we comport ourselves during public prayer, was talking about linking arms or holding hands in a group, not as marriage mates.
For instance, suppose someone sought to have all in a group link arms or hold hands during such a prayer. This might offend or distract some, including visitors who do not share our beliefs. Some marriage mates might discreetly hold hands, but if they embraced each other during public prayer, those who got a glimpse of such conduct might be stumbled.

blondie : Sounds like this is a bigger problem.
I think so. First of all, a report alleges that "the facility operated without a licensed doctor or nurse, performed surgeries in a poorly equipped environment, and lacked any semblance of a sterilization unit or Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) standards". Seems a recipe for disaster.
Secondly, its alleged that the clinic was "using electricity from the public grid to conduct the operation" and the "electricity went off during the [c-section] operation and they had to rush to put on generating set."
Finally, there seems some confusion whether it was the woman who died who was a JW and so the staff refused to transfuse blood on the strength of the consent she had signed, reported here, or whether it was the owner of the clinic who was a JW and refused transfusion.
The reason I entertain this alternative version is that the clinic had already delivered two of her children so must have been operating for several years. It seems unlikely to me that this would be the first time a blood transfusion was required, especially as they were performing caesarean sections. Also, in the reports which quote the medical authorities who subsequently closed down the place, none of them refer to refusal to perform a transfusion. This allegation came from a FB post by her partner after she died. I also don't discount the possibility that both the woman who died and the owner of the clinic were JWs, which would account for the confusion.

Beside reading Thucydides the author of Daniel read Herodotus
by kepler inover a year ago, i engaged in a discussion on a similar topic.
it was titled, "has anyone read thucydides beside the author of daniel?".
since my annotated new jerusalem bible mentions a number of reasons why the text was probably written largely in the 2nd century bce to address events happening in that period ( the seleucid occupation and desecration of the temple), i was aware of a number of arguments for the case.

Vidqun : Bottom line is, you cannot use words or a language to date a document.
Now we have another method : radiocarbon and AI-based writing style analysis. There's no getting away from AI. In an article this month, Dating ancient manuscripts using radiocarbon and AI-based writing style analysis, PLoS One 20(6), it shows that carbon-dating and AI analysis predict some manuscripts are older than palaeographic estimates.
Of particular interest to the book of Daniel is the dating of the Dead Sea Scroll, 4Q114, which contains Daniel 8-11. Many scholars believe it was written during the Maccabean revolt (167-160 BCE) but carbon-dating and AI analysis give it a calibrated range between 230 and 160 BCE which rather stretches the date of writing unless 4Q114 is the "original" Daniel and not a copy. Now that would be a first.

There seems to be more involved here. According to The Trumpet
Investigations revealed that the so-called hospital was operating without proper licensing, infrastructure, or qualified medical personnel. Originally registered to provide basic maternity care, the facility had illegally expanded [from a 3-bedroom apartment] into a six-bed clinic performing surgical procedures, including caesarean sections without medical oversight.
Dr. Hope Avundaa, spokesperson for the state’s Anti-Quackery Committee, confirmed that the facility was run by auxiliary nurses with no legal authority or training to carry out medical surgeries. “This was a ticking time bomb,” she said. “No certified medical personnel were present, and the environment was completely unsuitable for any form of surgical procedure.”
So while the person attending to Victoria Paris may have been a JW, she was no doctor.

Diogenesister : ... the state run by the ANC ... has even passed a law that the song "Kill the Boar, kill the Farmer" is no longer hate speech & legal to sing.
The ANC have not passed a law that the song Dubul' ibhunu ("Kill the Boer") is no longer hate speech.
It was declared "hate speech" in a court case in 2011. In 2019 the SAHRC heard five complaints against Malema and found that none of them constituted "hate speech". In 2023 a court found that the SAHRC did not have the powers to decide that and set aside their ruling. Eventually, the matter went before the Supreme Court of Appeal in 2024, and that court decided that in a specific context the song was not "hate speech". Read the judgment.
As elsewhere, the courts had to balance between freedom of expression and hate speech. They have had to do that in the USA, in the UK, and elsewhere. They do not always get it right. But my point is that this is a legal balancing act. It was not decided by parliament passing a law. It was decided by the Supreme Court of Appeal how the law should be applied.
Diogenesister : Convicted murderer's have stated IN COURT that they where encouraged by the song & the sentiments therein to murder "the whites".
Yes. Most criminals try to justify their crimes when they are caught and South African criminals are no different. But when the courts considered whether or not it was hate speech, they finally concluded on the evidence before them that the song was not responsible for farm murders.

DATA-DOG : I note your correction that Ramaphosa did not refer to anyone leaving South Africa as traitors, as you had alleged.
He said "[South Africans] don't run away from our problems. We must stay here and solve our problems. When you run away you are a coward." I agree that is a broad sweep. Every person has their reasons for staying or leaving. But there is no doubt it is better for the country if they stay.
How about your other allegations.
DATA-DOG : [There are] laws being passed to take possession of Farmlands ran be White Farmers
Can you provide a link to any South African law which has been passed to take possession of Farmlands run by White Farmers. Please show what the law itself says, not some propaganda from the right or left.
DATA-DOG : Are you so naive as to believe the SA Government would openly say, “Let’s kill all the White people!”??
Anony Mous alleged there are attacks being called for by leaders in the current government. I am glad that you accept that is not true.
DATA-DOG : They just allow policies to be enacted that facilitate [calling for the murder of white people]
What enacted policies do you have in mind which facilitate the call for murder? Please be specific.
DATA-DOG : Leftist Politicians in America ... just bussed groups of “activists” around and looked the other way, or bailed their key players out of jail
Are you seriously implying that the ANC is in league with Malema and the Economic Freedom Fighters? Then you know less than the little knowledge of South African politics with which I had credited you.
