it really pigs me off now when i think back to what i was told to get rid of when i was studying.my collection of stephen king books, my new madonna like a prayer record that i loved, my alice cooper and guns and roses album.
i was even told not to listen to classical music because some of the composers led such debauched lives!also any film with an 18 certificate was a nono in case others were stumbled - even though i have seen other jws reading stephen king books and watching 18 cert films and my husband had the complete madonna collection!and of course depeche modes 'personal jesus' song which i loved.
and my lost boys album and video cos it was about vampires.i was just wondering what sort of things were you told you should get rid of and why?

I had been around “the truth” for a while and never got baptized. I went back to “the world” for a while and bought all kinds of stuff that were “bad”. When I made the really stupid decision to go back and get baptized I had to throw away and burn a lot of things. Like; my books on Wicca, Gnosticism, yoga, meditation, Harry Potter, The Lord of the Rings, Feng Shui, Buddhism, etc. Moat of my cds went in the trash, my dream journals, and even some t-shirts. I am still bummed about it.

I really don't like country music. However I do like Hank Williams, Wille Nelson, Johnny Cash, and Patsy Cline.
last year i still wasn't sure about halloween, but this year we're going to dress the munchkin up.
it's been alot of fun looking for something and decorating the house.
my family was not witnesses so growing up we celebrated everything...i remember it always as good times.

I loved Halloween. I always felt like this time of year was special, sacred.

for what it is worth i wanted to pass this along.. we are all aware of those convienient brackets used in the new world translation.
the infamous colossians 1:16....."because by means of him all ((((other)))))) things were created...".
at the very bottom of the first page of their bible ...the foreword.... it says.
They acknowlege they took the 432 times Adonay was used in the Hebrew scriptures and replaced it with Jehovah in 134 passages. leaving Lord in 298 times.
How did they go about choosing which passages would be replaced with Jehovah and which ones would not?
Only in the instances that would better support their doctrine?
Have they ever addressed this?

Great thread gold_morning!
this is the way i found being a jw to be in a simplified fashion .
get taught evil doctrine, .
accept it because you keep reading their tracts/books, .
Thanks for the welcome Ade!
I do try ask questions and just when I think we are about to have an opened minded discussion he gets upset and says "we shouldn't talk like this, that's what satan wants". He has even had panic attacks over some of the more deep discussions we have had. It is very sad to say the least. I love him very much and I hate to see that his mind is enslaved to this organization.
I don't post very often. I always enjoy reading your posts here Ade.
Thanks a bunch!

hey everybody, i had an interesting time pushing a tract that i don't believe in this weekend.
i had to develop my own method of placing it without having to talk about it, since i fear if i was confronted by someone asking "do you people think you're the only true religion", i might break down and tell the person at the door "no, i don't".
the witness at the door with me would scream in terror, and i would be insta-dfed.
Hi StillGroggy!
I am in the same boat. I am still "in" the borg. I rarely go out in service. When I do go out it is usually on a Saturday when I have to offer the mags. Since this is a special activity my witness boss has offered the employess a day off during the week to partcipate in the tract work.I haven't went in the tract work yet, I am supposed to go this Friday with my hubbie.
I am feeling a lot less pressure about this tract work than I am about offering the magazines. The reason being with the tract I can just say "Hi, my name is.... and I wanted to give give your copy of this important message. Please read it." With this there is no Bible involved, no asking the house holder a question, no discussion! Just give them the tract and get out. That's how I view it. I much rather give out tracts than mags any day. I just pray they throw the damn thing in the trash the second they shut the door!

become accepted ( except you can never be as good as those "born into the truth",
You hit that dead on! I married a man that was born in. At the time we married he was not yet baptized and I (who was not born in) had been around the truth for two a little over two years. His parents were not happy about our plans to marry because I wasn't baptized, in their eyes he was marrying out of the Lord.
We have been married for seven years and of course we have both since been baptized. If I voice doubts about the "truth" to my husband or we get in a really bad argument he will bring up how he should have listened to his parents and married in the Lord.
He has many family members who were born in and did marry others who had been born in as well. Most of them have since divorced.
I feel that one of the main reasons (besides being shunned) I do not leave "the tuth" is I feel like I will be proving to him and his parents that they were right about me from the start. I hate all of this bull-sh*t!!

growing up, i remember hearing stories from my own parents and others in the congregation about experiences with demons.
sister x wore a t-shirt that she purchased at a second hand store and the demons attached themselves to the shirt and gave her problems.
certain movies and/or cds would give a family problems.
At this point I don't exactly know what I think about demons and demonic attacks but I will tell you some things I have read about.
I feel that Jehovahs Witnesses are almost demon worshippers! In my congregation for many years I could not attend a meeting without hearing something about demons. Whether it came from the podium or from casual conversations before/after the meetings. Not that they actually worship demons, but demons are a big part of their belief system.
I myself used to be terrified of demons! I used to read many books on wicca/witchcraft and the occult before I became a witness and never thought once about demons. Then when I got to the chapter in the "Knowledge" book about wicked spirits and spiritism, I totally freaked and burned all of my books.
Then a few years later I started reading those same books again and a few others (in secret of course). I still couldn't get over my fear of demons so I started do "research". What I found was that many people who had demonic/paranormal experiences had extreme fear(s) in their life. Whether it was fear of the paranormal, fear of death or extreme paranoia of one thing or the other. Many also had extreme manic depression or schizophernia. Some also had severe abuse taking place in the home.
It is believed that the enviroment (the home or the mind) became overloaded with negative energy and the demons could be drawn to it. Others have suggested that we create the paranormal activity. Not that it is our imagination running wild, but our imagination becomes so focused that we actually manifest these strange happenings. Now theses cases were people who had really extreme abuse take place and or severe mental illness.
All of these cases and the analysis of them could all be crock of crap. I mean why would demons do this? Just for *hit & Giggles? For all I know satan & jah could be having tea and scones while watching the demons and angels play a wicked game of cricket.
I don't know if I even believe in satan or demons, but I have spoken with many people who have had some real freaky things happen to them. I just thought I would share some info with everyone.
Very Best Regards,
I. Wonder
