The problem with these boards is that sometimes you (I) don't explain all the details and it ends up sounding like we are trying to join a golf club.... So, what we are looking for is a church that focuses on the Bible and doesn't make you join them or agree with all they say. I have done all kinds of reseach and I am not looking for a group to tell me what to think....rather looking for some good ol Bible studies with a group....because I do miss the social aspects of being in a group and learning.

Why are we so mad????
by megsmomma inhttp://religiousmovements.lib.virginia.edu/profiles/listalpha.htm my hubby and i are thinking of going to a church.....it is about the right time for us.
we were trying to figure out which religion is suited for us and he found this site.
it is interesting that the description an jw's say that it is unusual that when people leave them....there is alot of resentment, unlike other religions.. i think it is due to the brainwashing....when you have believed something blindly, then discover you were decieved...it is worse than if you are a part of a religion where you can believe all they teach...or not.

BTW....we think a non-denominational is the way to go for us :)

Do you have any "old friends"?
by AlmostAtheist inhey all,.
i was thinking today that many of us lack something that other people enjoy -- old friends.
we either weren't close to our high school friends, or sort of shut them out of our lives.

I am upset about this too. When I do get in contact with an old friend out of the org....it is bitter sweet....because it seems all we have in common now is we are out of the org....but life has changed us and we really don't know eachother anymore.

"Thats what you get for leaving Jehovah"
by megsmomma inthat is what my mom told me when i got bit by a brown recluse spider.. i was in ohio, visiting my daughter and my mom was there trying to convert me back.
she even said if i go back, we would get custody of my daughter..... well....i drove myself there from ks and somehow had gotten bitten right before i left.
it was right between my eyes, and my head started swelling up on the way there.

Return_visitor,
I know what you mean (I think) about the situation with my daughter = reaping what I have sown....But really....That's what I get for leaving Jehovah.
I should have done things a-lot differently, but I didn't know how. When you know better, you do better....and I live with what I have done and make the best out of it now in regards to my daughter.

Is Jehovah a real dude? (Sort of long)
by millions now living are dead ini don't post here much but this board has helped me through the process of extracting myself from this religion.
i thought i should share an experience that i had.. quick background: 4th of 5 generations of jw's leading back to beginning of the century.
first to leave the religion of all of the relatives and family.

Well....I don't know what to think either. I liked reading this experience and I cannot even imagine the things you are describing. If Jehovah is a demi-god....It does seem that whay happened to you would be fitting of his type though.
Do you carry on with doing anything with those beliefs now that you are back home? ....Home's got to seem a bit of a bore after that!

I see my daughter as much as possible....but no tas much as I would like. My mom would rather me be dead than this happy too!
Now what I get for leaving Jehovah is a great husband, I get to be a mom to another daughter, she is 6 mo's, I get to find friends that are real...and like me for who I am, I get to have family that really loves me and never would shun me......Life is much better...but going through those things as you leave sure do leave a mark.

Did you get the new tract?
by kid-A injust wanted to run an informal poll to see how "effective" or hopelessly "ineffective" the borg tract assimilation drive has been.. i for one, have not received the tract, and i live in densely populated development.

Sorry for scaring anyone...I should have included a follow up......That was 6 years ago.....and I do have a deep scar, and I did talk to a doctor once I was back home. He said I was VERY lucky my daughter burst it. I am shocked it didn't cause more damage, but for about 6 months, it looked like I had been shot between my eyes, and I cried a-lot because I felt very ugly. Now, I don't notice it much, but I still will have people ask about it sometimes.
Thanks for all your caring!

Mmmmmm...that sounds delish!
I have one:
You take brown sugar and put a thinish layer in the bottom of a baking dish. Then put dots of butter all around...then little peices of marichino cherries.(I take a jar of them, drain, then dice them) Then you put balls of bread dough. (You can used frozen, canned, or homemade bread dough) Then bake according to the bread recipe. When done, flip the baking dish onto a platter. They are so yummy and pretty!
