I have said similar. We lived in a moderate sized town with two congregations. Over a three year period there were 16 divorces (both congregations in total) and loads of other stuff. I worked for a company that had well over 300 employees and no divorces over the same period of time. A spiritual paradise... I think not.

Sweat Pea - give it a go (education). In our experience people with life experience do very well at university. There a few "know it all" but bottom line young people accept and respect those who better themselves.
And you are right, you as one person make a difference and are making a difference. Nice work!

what is the benefit of the "fade out" i hear it get thrown around a lot here but is it a really a better way to go?
at least in my area people who dont go to meetings are treated pretty much the same as the diffed people might say hi to them in the mall but there not gonna be getting any wedding invites.so why fade out?
theres a lot of pain and drama involved in a da or df but thats the situation your in your cross to bear so to speak so why postpone or avoid it?
The way I think about it is, are there consequences to letting the WTBS control your life. In other words, if you DF/DA yourself are there family members or friends that you would like to see from time to time, if so, a DA/DF will not allow you that option. Do you have relatives who are witnesses that might graduate or marry and you would love to be there, the WTBS would say no.
I choose to control my consequences to the best of my ability. I realize that there is a strong argument against my position (that by playing along the WTBS ends up controlling you). But I will be damned if they tell me who to invite to dinner and if I can attend a relatives wedding or graduation.
It is is tough call. I admire folks who took a stand and I admire folks who use their thinking powers to survive.

It is embarrassing to say, in our experience non-witnesses seem to be better people. It seems that the "Jehovah will take care of everything" attitude causes witnesses to not be environmentally friendly, they do not think long term. When you think the end is coming and that over 99.6 percent of the world (people) is/are going to get destroyed then why take care of the earth, why conduct business as if your reputation has to last a lifetime, why save for the future, why educate yourself, why be kind to your neighbor because he/she will be gone soon anyway. It is an insane religion. May god (if there is one) help us all.

a friend of mine is travelling from san francisco to las vegas next march and is looking for a great place to stay en-route for a night.
where would you suggest?
they were considering yosemite but the road in will be closed when they are travelling.
Your friend might want to stay somewhere in Big Sur or the Monterey area. Very beautiful. It is only a couple of hours south of SF but worth staying. Then drive a long day to Las Vegas the next day. Bakersfield is a hell hole.
