the subject has come up in my reincarnation thread and i think its worthy of its own.. when i saw the movie "rain man", what amazed me the most about what raymond was able to do (i.e., counting the number of matches in a matchbox after a glance, or memorizing all the names and numbers in a large phone book in a matter of minutes) was that it proves that a human mind is capable of performing the functions of a computer and more.
why then, do we not a: all have these supercomputer abilities, and b., why is an autistic person lacking in other areas such as social skills?
my second son was born in 1992 with a lipoma on his tail bone which was also wrapped around his spinal cord.

how did you meet your mate (convention, local hall)?
did you date long?
did you really have anything in common other than the same religion?
I dated my wife while she was in high school and I was just out. I had a Yamaha 650 Special and we would ride all around town. The elders said we had to have a chaperon, where in the heck could I put him/her? Still married, a few decades later.

so sad.
how can you even hold a 5-year-old accountable for anything, anyways?.
Maybe the point here is that the WTS destroys good thinking ability. I agree that the WTS would not recommend disowning a 5 year old boy. But they do recommend perfect obedience without critical thinking and such a stance breeds distorted thinking from those obedient to the WTS.
What an evil bunch of men.
this week i finally finished college.
feels great to finally be completed.. i have to say that the process has been therapeutic.
a year and a half ago when i started to go back i still defined myself in terms of my experience as a jw.. that is all gone now.
Drew- an education is one of the best looks forward. Onward and upward.

john 3:16 was highlighted for several minutes by the speaker.
the new world translation: for god loved the world so much that he gave his only-begotten son, in order that everyone exercising faith in him might not be destroyed but have everlasting life.new jerusalem bible "yes, god loved the world so much, that he gave his only son, so that everyone who believes in him, may not die but have eternal life.
"the obvious difference is that the speaker used john 3:16 as a guilt trip for those to do more.... exercise faith when the real meaning of the scripture seems much different.

The speaker noted several times that while Paul did not attend the original memorial celebration with Jesus, we typically follow his outline of the celebration in 1 Corinthians. Too bad someone didn’t have a chance to write down the real thing shortly after it happened :)
The speaker also mentioned how simple the celebration was and commented and apologized for how long it took to pass the emblems – two congregations met together. He is right that it is simple and takes too long. No doubt the original version was much more emotional and intimate, if it happened at all. It seems a shame that what should be a very powerful experience for believers is reduced to something devoid of emotion and meaning.
Passing the emblems took maybe a full 10 minutes. The speaker said nothing. I think the outline tells the speaker to say nothing, but good grief, can he tell some cool Jesus stories or something.
As others have noted, the songs are just awful. Someone took every last drop of fun and encouragement out of the songs and now everyone mumbles along… even worse than before.
We didn’t get love-bombed because a few friends cornered us and we caught up on old times and didn’t really talk about anything witness related.
Overall, it was less painful that I expected. I doubt we go next year. I feel tremendous pain for people that I care about who are stuck on the treadmill of the WTS. For a handful of folks that I really like, I want to grab their hand and help them run as far from the WTS as possible, but it is their life they live not mine.
All the best,

will we ever see a paradise earh?.
picture in your mind, a beautiful paradise-like park, planted by the god of the universe, who himself is perfect in all his ways.
a garden of superalitive breath-taking beauty.
Our best chance at seeing a paradise earth is to work hard to repair the damage to the earth, to work on making our family life fulfilling, to help make our communities better places, to get involved in government, education systems, charities or other endeavors to help, to encourage others to reach out and do what they can to make a difference. If each of us take responsibility for the things around us, then yes, we and our children may see a paradise earth. if you are awaiting for god to make it happen you are missing the opportunity of a life time to make a difference. If god does step-up, he will probably be pleased that you did everything in your power to make things better.
All the best,

for the last 13 years, we haven't attended and didn't even care about it.
but since we became card carrying members of jwn in september, we have an interest in what are friends here on jwn are doing.. for us?
we will be watching 'dancing with the stars'.
We will probably go.
We have been fading for almost 15 months and have not attended meetings in about 7-8 months. We have had some contact with a few folks we counted and still count as friends. I think that if we did not attend it would be viewed negatively and would lead to a focus on us. It is hard to listen to most anything WTS oriented without yelling BS, I guess I can control myself... the real question is will my spouse resist the urge to yell BS :)

OM - this is the first time I had a chance to read your analysis of the fade. It is a wonderful thought provoking piece. Thanks for posting it!
