I have a problem with the whole idea of a day of rest. This would seem that God had intended to have a day of rest to carry out his plan. If he had this plan then he knew that Adam would eventually sin, thus the need for a day of rest. How long is this day of rest? It did not end after the flood when all of the wicked were wiped out. So, I conclude that his plan was not finished. He has planned for a wicked world, the one that we now live in, to come about so that once again he can step in to save the day. Maybe, that is the plan, or maybe it will be in another 1000 years.

Jehovah, the Ineffective Creator!
by zgborn into hear jehovah's witnesses tell the story, their god is a lousy creator.
consider, from the very beginning of time, he has had his intentions thwarted at every turn.
he intended to have a world filled with loving human worshippers, but from the garden of eden forward, he has not gotten what he wanted.

I had made a similar comment to the brother that was studying with me. If god has not gotten it right up to this point why should I believe that he has it correct now and for the future. We could be going down a trail to our own destruction. As with most brainwashed witnesses he had nothing to say to that except that we just need to follow him (well, actually the organization.).

what is going on?
by drawcad_1 injust started attending a new congregation with my wife (very much a believer) and have noticed a lot of complacency.
during the weekdays service meetings it is only pioneers and auxileries that show up.
on weekends a typical service group that has 30 people assigned to it only has 6 show up.

A few of the local dubs loaded all of thier retirement into the house of thier dreams and have lost all of that equity to the banks. Now they just walk around with a blank stare trying to figure out why and how they got into this mess. They honestly thought that by getting into one of those mortgages they were simplifying. Instead the mortgage was reset, they lost thier job and now they hear from the society do more. And as always every watchtower tells them that they need to put trust in Jah, give more time, end is near.

Just started attending a new congregation with my wife (very much a believer) and have noticed a lot of complacency. During the weekdays service meetings it is only pioneers and auxileries that show up. On weekends a typical service group that has 30 people assigned to it only has 6 show up. I went out with two car groups the other day, 8 people split inot 4 groups, in the four hours they handed out about 20 magazines and did not collect any ‘contributions’.
It seems like everyone is more concerned with their jobs or lack of work. A lot in the congregation are downsizing their living situations. Nobody wants to admit it is because they have lost their jobs and people who bought their houses six years ago are confused as to why they owe more on the house than it is worth. Some are buying a second house while they still have a job and good credit so that they can dump the overpriced one that they have now. We are even now collecting contributions to help with peoples rent.
All of the problems are showing up in marriages and meeting attendance. The ministry school is really suffering and two congregations have combined so that attendance looks normal. Most conversations with elders start out with ‘where are you working at?’.
What a glorious day!!!!

Ransom
by drawcad_1 ini had read some time ago that the ransom that jesus paid with his life was for all of the people who died up to that point.
he did not die for our present sins and that we must live a pure life to be worthy of jehovahs salvation.
this is all purely jw speak, i was in an argument a while back with a jw and could not think of any of thier literature to reference this.

I had read about this in an apostate publication while I was studying with a brother and brought it up while the CO was sitting in on the study. The brother said that he had never heard of it, but the CO said that I was correct. I have since thrown out the apostate publication, during one of my get rid of anything watchtower relted moods. Now, I am associating with family from the watchtower and I mentioned this point, but cannot remember the source of this point. Family members have run through the usual denials that acompany doctrine that does not fit thier agenda and said that the CO misunderstood what I had said.

This always becomes a very theatrical debate and I love reading some of the posts. Scholar and Jcanon are some of the best, not because they are very believable, but because they show the absolute lack of evidence on the subject and instead work at disqualifying the physical evidence, Or as AlanF put it, the ?mountain of evidence for 587/6 BCE?.
The original message on this topic asked how the society refutes the discrepancy and the appendix to chapter 14 was mentioned. A very good resource that shows the normal dub all of the evidence for 587 and it makes a tie into Egyptian chronology that also fits in very well with the secular date. I have also been made aware of a book by Rolf Furuli that rehashes all the watcthower claims and does not use anything except the bible to prove 607BCE. But, this book is being used by some witlesses that are trying desperately to hold onto their beliefs.
I hope the two previously mentioned posters continue to respond. What a circus of responses they bring to this board.
