Apparently Pinatas are ' no big deal'. What's next? Birthdays?
by xjw_b12 ini always thought the society frowned upon the use of pinatas, if not discouraging the use of them all together.
apparently the wts has decided to avoid insulting the brothers in mexico.
from the september 22, 2003 awake.

It seems like learning to speak spanish is almost a fad around these parts (Nevada). So that they can witness to all of the Mexican workers in the area. It would almost be to much for them to decriminalize other celbrations that are observed by the Hispanic population (Cinco de Mayo comes to mind)

Who are the 24 Elders?
by LittleToe inrevelation 4, 5, 11 & 19 talk of twenty four elders, before the throne of god.. the wts interpretation has them as the anointed in heaven, but that just doesn't wash, as they are seen to be observers of events that apparently involve folks still on earth.
by their account they have 23.5 elders in heaven and half a body on the ground, so to speak.. any ideas who these are?.
(i have an speculation, which i'll mention later).

Having sex with your own daughters was not on the list of things that are displeasing to god yet. Therefore, he did not sin.

Furuli's New Books--Attempt to Refute COJonsson
by ros ini just heard that the norwegian watchtower apologist, rolf furuli, who esteems himself a biblical scholar of semetic languages, has completed the first of two volumes he plans to publish on the societys chronology, assyrian, babylonian, egyptian and persian chronology compared with the chronology of the bible.. title of this first volume is: persian chronology and the length of the babylonian exile of the jews.. i hear that although carl olof jonsson is not mentioned by name, or reference made to his book "gentile times reconsidered," it is nevertheless apparent that these volumes are an attempt to refute jonssons excellent study which has exposed the watchtowers 1914 date as total folly.. .
the book can be ordered now from furulis new personal website:.

: First you say, you would acknowledge a "good argument" then you say a good argument is impossible.
I have seen an attemp at a "
goodargument" on this subject, and yes, it is impossbible. Not to say that there could be an argument and one that could support the theory of 70 years of destruction that could lead up to 1914 as a date for something that happened to a small group of JW's, but it would have to overcome a mountain of evedence. -

What do you do for a living ??? Would the elders make you quit your job ???
by run dont walk inthis one is my biggest pet peeves.. growing up in the borg, i had a hard time finding any job, let alone a decent paying one.. i had to quit many jobs because my parents said "i was missing out to many meetings and field service.".
but how come the elders who worked at ford, chysler, gm, or any big factories, that worked shift work, and missed meetings every three weeks consistently for decades, and that was okay.
the response i would get was, "well they have a family to raise and look after.

I am amazed at the umber of people that can work in jobs that relate to casinos or are right next to casinos and are okay. But, once you handle the money you have to give up that job.

How Many Feel That The Bible Is Not "Inspired" After All???
by minimus inso many do quote a scripture to make a point against an idea, yet i see that a number do not seem to believe in the bible's inspiration, anyway.
so, do you believe that the bible is god's inspired word??

I really lost my faith in the bible when we started studying the orange book. It talked about the science of the bible (pure garbage), how it had been faithfully copied through the ages (by men who did and did not make changes), and how acurate the prophesies are (even though many were or could have been written after the fact). Thank you Watchtower for giving me a book that opened my eyes.

Did Jesus Christ exist at all?
by Tyler insome of my comments (and that of others) on other threads have highlighted a basic differance between those of us who belieave jesus christ did exist, and those of us who recon he did not.
i belieave jesus as described in the gospells did not exist.
so i decided to start a thread that adresses this issue face on.

Since, the gospels were written after 70 CE and not by the people that are given credit for them (the gospel of Mathew was not written by the apostle Mathew etc.). Also, the gospel of Luke states that all of the information comes from second hand sources I do not see how the references made about Jesus could be given much respect. Paul never saw Jesus except in a heat induced delusional vision and was just writting down what he had heard or he felt was true about Jesus and most of his writtings are earlier than the Gospels.
To say that Jesus must be true, because other characters mentioned in the gospels are known to have exsisted would allow us to say that many characters in Greek mythology are also true. Many times fables are made up around actual events in world history.
If you include the quote from Josephus it is because you are grasping for straws and have not read any debates on the issue. He was not contemporary, the quote does not appear in earlier translations, he was a devout jew who called Jesus the Christ, he only gave the Christ a couple of sentences yet gave other messiahs whole chapters.
that all said and off of my chest. I do believe a man named Jesus was alive and might have provoked some of the writtings, but I do not think he was anywhere near what is portrayed in the Gospels.

The WTS, Downsizing and Contributions.
by hillary_step inas most of you may have gathered, the past couple of years have seen some major downsizing in wts expenditure, not just overseas but in the us and canada, including the sale of some buildings.
building projects have been shelved, some half-way completed.
every congregation around the world was instructed to upgrade kindgom halls, probably for the purposes of asset protection, as the trustees of khs are only trustees *for* the wts.
