The young ones really do seem to try hard to do their best. They aren’t worn out, by waiting all of their life for Armageddon to come. At least they don’t try to counsel me on how to raise and discipline my children. They seem to realize that without that life experience behind them that they can’t judge others on it. I always hated the middle-aged elders that never had to raise children that would tell me to discipline my child more or that I wasn’t doing the right things to raise my children.

What's with such young "elders"?
by Gig inhow can the wts consider an unmarried man in his mid-twenties qualified to be an elder?
clearly the "theocratic" process of election by the holy spirit is not what's happening.
ever known any (too) young elders?

What Should have happened to the Watchtower
by Dogpatch insome of you may be familiar with the international churches of christ , a breakoff cult from the churches of christ years ago.
control, control, control.
i myself have exit-counseled a few kids from this church successfully.

I think that the recovery from 1975 was easily explained to the members that the Borg didn’t actually say that would be the year (or at least they didn’t print that). The faithful stayed on and continued to preach that it was very soon and have added to the gains that we have seen. The increase that was shown last year is kind of unbelievable to me, the local congregations have not shown any growth above the growth rate of the city (and it might be a little lower than that). A lot of the attitudes that I have seen is that people are getting tired of changing policies and bad publicity.

Things That Drove You CRAZY About The Elders
by minimus ini was always amazed by the certain elders that really got into giving heavy counsel, while, they themselves, needed to take their own advice.you know, the elder that always picked on the families that weren't perfect, and was the first to volunteer to give the local needs talk on how to bring up your kids.
meanwhile, the elder's own children were smoking and dating "unbelievers".
and i always smirked when the theocratic ministry school overseer gave tough counsel on timing and the use of word-whiskers and pronunciation, while always violating his own criticisms............what drove you crazy??

The elders always seemed to have something to say on how to raise children. Some of them had kids that no one could respect and some didn't even have any. They always whought that they were the last say on how to treat your wife, even if they were controlling and abusive in thier relationship. The ones that own businesses would cheat and steal, even to fellow witnesses.
One elder was very much into telling people how to run thier lives. He was a contractor of some sort and was currently between jobs, oh goody he could go pioneering while his wife worked. His father-in-law was a CO, so we know how he got his position. when he finally got a job it was driving a tour bus on the Strip in Las Vegas. Must be a real blow to his ego, being a big time contractor (if he realy had been).

How bad is the Society hurting?
by dmouse init seems clear that the gb are hurting.
recent media attacks over pedophilia, combined with revelations of hypocrisy over the un and even personal accusations against members of the gb themselves has meant that those at the top of the ivory tower are feeling more vulnerable than ever before.
the law is increasingly being used to bring these monsters to book.. .

that really brought a tear to my eye.
The watchtower is always telling us how they are being repressed in one country after another and yet they do the same to thier own members. Everytime I want to get into a serious discussion with one of the members, about discrepansies with thier beliefs, they go to the insight book and give me thier standard reply. Then I have to spend hours looking up data to reply to them, of course by this time I am labled as agrumentative.
this site has been very helpfull.

Please explain 537 in layman's terms...
by confuzcious inhey guys,.
i'm doing research on 607 and i understand how historical chronology differs and how the wt really missed it by 20 years.. but it seems the anchor year has something to do with 537 and 70 years of desolation.
counting back, 70 years would be 607.. so i've been told that that is how the "bible's chronology" verifies 607.. does anyone explain what this is all about?.

There are many quotes in the wt about how there are references to the 607 bce date, but when qestioned cannot be prodused.
get them to explain zechariah 1:12 and explain what 70 years that he is talking about, and since it was written in 518 bce.
the true R&F will not be moved by your quest for the truth, but I am glad that you are looking into it.

the new system wil contain "new light". It will be slightly different from the old light, but not enough for the rank and file to tell.

What Doctrine Or Belief Didn"t You Agree W...
by minimus inwhen you get baptized, you are expected to swallow a multitude of beliefs that either you never really understood or simply didn't truly believe in.
when going over questions for baptism, almost nobody understood the concept of the"faithful and discreet slave".
yet after it was attempted to explain this mumbo-jumbo, every candidate meekly just went along with the explanation without ever truly understanding the fallacy.

I guess that it is a long list of garbage that is hard to stomach.
I didnt agree with the destruction of Jerusalem in 607, when they had no backing from secular sources. I didnt believe that there are only 360 days in a year for their calculations. I didnt believe in their prophecy fulfillments. I didnt believe that some smug and arrogant people would be gods chosen. I didnt believe that Daniel was talking about today. I didnt believe all of their junk science. The two witness rule, their reasoning on blood. Anything that started with "reasoning". Why it is so important to have Jehovahs name in the New Testament when it was never there. How they pick Elders. Etc..Etc..

Official- Bethel cutbacks?
by No Apologies inmy wife told me that last night a letter was read from the society, explaining how all printing operations in brooklyn were being moved to either walkill or patterson, and that worldwide there would be consolidation of the printing operations.
i know there have been rumors like this floating around here for the last month or so, but now it seems there is confirmation.
has anyone else heard about this letter being read?

I heard the same rumor as izobcenec
That if New York gets the 2008 Olympic games that there is a buyer that will take all of their property. I was then told how the Watchtower bought the property for peanuts and is now going to get a very big profit from the sale. Good things always happen to Jehovahs organization.
Still no acknowledgment that they are scaling back.

When You Hear Someone Say "The Truth"...
by minimus inwhen a witness talks about a person not being "in the truth", does that get to you?
or if they self-righteously proclaim that "at least, they're in the truth and not worldly", does that push any buttons?

I never could understand if they were using it as a noun, as in ' I have the TRUTH' or I am in the TRUTH', or as a noun as in 'is he telling the truth?'
makes me wonder which one they were using when they say 'this is the truth'
