I'm so sorry to hear this Lenny. we had the same experience when we left. we lost quite a bit of our clients and they tried to make sure they bad mouthed our business as much as possible. bastards.
it's so lame that they can't even keep their security systems separate from their religion!

Punished by our “friends” for the letter we sent.
by LennyinBluemont insome of you may have read our exit letter from august of last year which we sent to about 50 of our close jw "friends", many of whom we had been very close to for decades.
we just told them what we had learned regarding the un scandal and provided all the documentation.
we never disassociated ourselves, nor have we been disfellowshipped.

Finding a career after leaving JWs
by reneeisorym ini find myself with no college degree and a secretary at 25 years old.

don't know if anyone has mentioned it yet....
my stepmom is enrolling for school to get a culinary degree (she's way older than you). it's a two year program (AA degree) and she plans on working part time in a bakery and getting hands on experience and then possibly do catering when she gets out of school.
seems like a good plan to me, especially if you love cooking and baking like she does. -

Visit with JW family
by Brigid indear friends and fellow sojourners,.
i have not had much time to post here and i miss you all horribly.
even as i start this topic, i worry that i will not have the time to babysit it as i should but i just wanted to bleed out some of my thoughts after a visit with my mother and brother recently--thoughts that you and only you will understand.. i have not seen my mother in over a year.

oh man Brigid. I know the nostalgic feeling....interesting isn't it?
seeing a WT in my stepmom's car not that long ago I opened it and leafed through it and was *almost excited* to read the real life story that was in that one. I used to love to read those and think about all these things that these *faithful* people went through. UGH! I was shocked that I *wanted* to read that....just for a moment though.
It's so physically and mentally draining being around the jw energy. I can only do it in small doses and then I have to retreat and ground myself again.
I'm glad you are back home and able to recharge around your loved ones... -

AURAS......
by freedomloverr inwithout elaborating at length, there has been a lot going on in my life of late and i have sought out some therapies that i have used in the past.
they've helped a lot.
they are more along the lines of *natural* therapies.

wow. only two of you have had this kind of experience?!
Mulan: that is really interesting. I am also practicing seeing them now. I have to concentrate sometimes usually.
Insomniac: I have heard of other experiences where kids can see aura's very easily. kids are usually much more open to these sort of experiences.
bigdreaux: just do some googling and you can start reading up about some of the techniques I talked about. you can read about pendulums and then make or buy one and start using it. it's very effective.... -

I've been *softened* somewhat in my rigidity of beliefs of late. things that I can't always explain. for instance, I was able to see auras for the first time in my life last week. it was amazing and very real. they changed shape and changed color. it was amazing.
I'd love to hear if anyone else has had experiences in this area......... -

Fading With Children
by Paralipomenon ini have, for the most part successfully faded.
no elders calling, my parents know i don't attend meetings, but have a don't ask/don't tell policy.
they don't ask if i went to a meeting, i don't tell them i haven't.

having kids adds a whole huge dimension to fading. we are dealing with it with some family members. the members that would play mind games with our kids when we weren't in the room, are not allowed to even see our kids. we won't expose them to that. those members won't agree to keep their mouths shut so they don't get to see the kids.
I do have one relative that is very torn over our choice and won't shun us but would literally get ill (and she's old) if she knew how we do holidays and b-days. (gasp!)
with this relative we explained it this way to our kids - "we are going to be around so-and-so this weekend. she loves you very much but she thinks that holidays and b-days are bad. (the kids usually laugh and roll eyeballs here) so while we are around her I don't want to hurt her feelings so let's try not to bring up that subject. it's kind of like when someone in the room is overweight. we don't talk about that because we don't want to hurt their feelings." the kids totally get this reasoning. it also teaches a little social etiquette.
they also now that if the subject slips they won't be in trouble.
this relative would rather live in denial anyway. most dubs I know would rather *pretend* they don't know about the *bad* things we do. -

my profile
by BlackSwan of Memphis ini live in mi and was raised a jw.
i left officially in 05, but my thinking had evolved before then.. if you're at this board, you're probably asking questions, or have asked questions and realized that the answers are not what you had thought they were.. if you're looking at this profile, you probably read one of my posts.. i suppose there is only one thing i would want anyone to know:.
it won't replace the years you believe you lost to the organization.. live your life that you have now and enjoy it.. often this means making a new life.

I hear you loud and clear BSofM.
It different for everyone but I don't *need* the board as much as I used to. For me I can't put energy into talking and thinking about jw things and still move forward in this journey. that's just me though.....
I've been thinking about you girl. been meaning to email you and make sure things were okay.
keep in touch - okay?
love and peace to you - freedomlover -

Nothing better!
by KW13 inthere is nothing better than seeing someone you know who has left!.
the other day i was in town and i saw someone who left while i was still in.
everyone said things about her, how she came off the rails etc but actually she has a son, a good relationship with her father (an elder who left before her and left family because his father-in-law would make life a nightmare...well she followed).. i haven't seen the father in years or her but it was nice to catch up, a flash of horror on her face until i explained i left also and then she was really happy!.

I agree KW13
I recently had lunch with an old friend of mine who I found out left also. she has been out for a long time but is still around her jw family and dating someone who is still going to meetings. she says she will never go back but she doesn't know how to handle the boyfriend thing.
I gave her the info. for this website and so she is lurking around here now and enjoying all the info. she is finding. -
