OK, thanks for clearing up your identity Isaacaustin.
Last night after my post I realized that my wearing a beard is an overt challenge to the authority of the Watchtower's leaders and elders. I drew constant attention to myself and thereby kept issues I raised forward in others mind.
To me, wearing a beard in effect said, "I don't believe your assertion that wearing a beard affects anyone adversely.", "You can't make me shave anymore.", "Shaving is a work of the flesh that Paul counciled the Galatians (Ch1) and Colossians (Ch 2) against as striving to make works the way to salvation." "Being independent is good." "I actually read the Bible and don't agree that wearing a beard stumbles anyone." and other related ideas.
The situation SD-7 is in is easily masked by standard Watchtower rhetoric. He is challenging the WT's ideas and authority. He committed a relatively minor offense. He will be harshly treated to make an example out of him for different reasons than his actual offense against the Watchtower.
Christianity is not a religion, it is a relationship. A relationship with a person. The Watchtower's portrayal of Jesus makes him appear like one thinks of a computer program that filters data on rules kept. ON or OFF. ONE or ZERO.
He is a Person. And The Good Shepherd. If one of 100 sheep strays he goes out to find it. One is too many to lose, 99 is too few to still have.
Matthew 18:10-14 and Luke 15:3-7
Matthew 7:
The Narrow and Wide Gates
13 "Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. 14 But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.
A Tree and Its Fruit
15 "Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves. 16 By their fruit you will recognize them. Do people pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles? 17 Likewise every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. 18 A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit. 19 Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. 20 Thus, by their fruit you will recognize them.
21 "Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. 22 Many will say to me on that day, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and in your name drive out demons and perform many miracles?' 23 Then I will tell them plainly, 'I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!' - (NIV)
Verse 23 tells us that it is not outward evidences of works done in Jesus' name but it is the relationship one has with Jesus that counts.
A person can't practice having the Fruitage of The Holy Spirit such as the Watchtower leads one to believe. A tree bears its fruit. The Holy Spirit has its fruit seen in a person's behavior. If one has the Holy Spirit that one will not have a choice, he will have its fruitage.
So, look at the actual content of such elders words and actions. Compare to Galatians 5:22, 23 listing, "the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control"
In SD-7's current experiences with Watchtower elders, What's missing?
I have a question, IF you were an elder when you were a JW how did you actually feel about handling a Judicial Committee matter such as Christopher is in?
I am praying for the best possible outcome for Christopher and his wife. They need to leave the Watchtower and find Jesus on His terms. Those who do report wonderful lives after as a result, not spiritual ruin. I do. In my Baptist Church I am LOVED.
Love,
Paul
