I know you believe you understand what you think I said, but I'm not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant
lolI ll use that next time I am arguing with my husband.
i'm building up a collection of watchtower quotes that i'm going to be printing out in order to talk with my wifes family (sometime in the future but i don't know when).
just want to be prepared.
so what are some of you favorite jw quotes?

i was reading auld souls post on a different thread and i noticed that in 1st chronicles the nwt has the word (true) inserted in parenthesis in front of the word god.1 chronicles 15:25-16:6. and david and the older men of israel and the chiefs of the thousands came to be the ones walking along to bring up the ark of the covenant of jehovah from the house of obed-edom with rejoicing.
and it came about when the [true] god helped the levites while carrying the ark of the covenant of jehovah that they proceeded to sacrifice seven young bulls and seven rams.
and david was dressed in a sleeveless coat of fine fabric, and also all the levites carrying the ark and the singers and chenaniah the chief of the carrying by the singers; but upon david there was an ephod of linen.
Do you have any idea what is the logic behind it?

1 Chronicles 15:25-16:6 And David and the older men of Israel and the chiefs of the thousands came to be the ones walking along to bring up the ark of the covenant of Jehovah from the house of Obed-edom with rejoicing. And all the Israelites were bringing up the ark of the covenant of Jehovah with joyful shouting and with the sounding of the horn and with trumpets and with cymbals, playing aloud on stringed instruments and harps.
And it came about that, when the ark of the covenant of Jehovah came as far as the City of David, Michal, Saul’s daughter, herself looked down through the window and got to see King David skipping about and celebrating; and she began to despise him in her heart.
16 Thus they brought the ark of the [true] God in and placed it inside the tent that David had pitched for it; and they began to present burnt offerings and communion sacrifices before the [true] God. When David finished offering up the burnt offering and the communion sacrifices, he went on to bless the people in the name of Jehovah. Further, he apportioned to all the Israelites, man as well as woman, to each one a round loaf of bread and a date cake and a raisin cake. Then he put before the ark of Jehovah some of the Levites as ministers, both to call to remembrance and to thank and praise Jehovah the God of Israel, Asaph the head, and second to him Zechariah, [and] Jeiel and Shemiramoth and Jehiel and Mattithiah and Eliab and Benaiah and Obed-edom and Jeiel, with instruments of the string type and with harps, and Asaph with the cymbals playing aloud, and Benaiah and Jahaziel the priests with the trumpets constantly before the ark of the covenant of the [true] God.
That is so strange. i checked the other translations I have and nobody else is doing it. Is that a common occurence in the NWT old testament?
i know this has been mentioned before, but i'd like to bring that question to the front again.
not only from a jw's perspective, but also from all other christians.. who lied to man and woman in the eden story?.
yahweh god says to men: 17 "nevertheless of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you are not to eat, for on the day you eat of it you shall most surely die.
Satan says: "No you won't. You'll just stop being naive and ignorant."
Isn't there some things that you would rather never know? Do you protect your kids from certain subjects? Is it because you want them naive and ignorant?

If I tell my son that if he breaks one of my rules he will get such and such punishment but then one of his older siblings tricks him into breaking my rule, and I do not follow through with the promised punishment does that make ne a liar?
They ate the apple but not on their own. Hence the altered punishment, chance for redemption...

How is giving them the knowledge and the ability to do evil helping them?
i was just wondering what the opinions those on this board regarding this topic.
i know some have moved towards more orthodox theology, others have not.
curious as to what the opinions are of this.
An interesting thing I have been reading regarding this topic has to do with John 1:1 and if it even refers to Jesus at all. It is said by some that 'Logos' known by many as 'the Word' can actually be translated as meaning Gods wisdom and purpose. It is also said that the 'him' translated in this scripture (strongs #846. autos (ow-tos') can also be translated a number of differant ways including 'it'. With this concept in mind the scripture could actually read:John 1:14And purpose became flesh and lived among us and we beheld his glory the glory of the only begotten of the father full of grace and truth...
In the beginning was the purpose, and the purpose was with God, and the purpose was divine. It was with God in the beginning. Through it all things were made; without it nothing was made that has been made. In it was life, and that life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, but the darkness has not understood[a] it.
It is my opinion that no matter what you translate the word "logos" you cannot avoid it refering to Jesus.
Tri-Gods are so common in Pagan thinking. Why not Christianity? They borrowed pretty much everything else and labeled it okay!
Could you please give me an example of a pagan trigod? The "Does the bible really teach the trinity"? Pamphlet insists that there are many in Greek Roman and Eyptian mythology. I know greek and Roman nythology and could not find any tri-gods. Does anyone know Egyptian mythology?

I see what you are saying. That would make my post irrelevant. So as a myth-seperated form the rest of the account of the bible re: satan etc etc let me ask you this:
A higher being aka God creates two life forms and places them in a gorgeous setting. There are two trees one of life () and one of the knowledge of good and evil. There is no instruction regarding the tree of life but of the tree of knowledge they must abstain. So the higher being comes back every night and hangs out with the lifeforms. They do not seem to need anythihg, the food is free and the weather conditions are great. All they have to do is walk around naked and reenact the blue lagoon movie. Are they happy?( they seem to be having more fun than I m having right now but that could be just me) Does the higher creator being have the right to pose rules on them? Could they be life forms in training? Could the tree of knowledge be there for future use once they know and understand more of what is around them?Don't know. Then a different lifeform, one with more and older knowledge gets them to break the one rule and gets them in hot water with the higher lifeform. The higheer being kicks them out of their idelic setting to prevent them from eating the fruit of life. Promises some sort of future salvation that they do not see.Still they live 900 years, long enough to watch their own children kill each other. Could death be actually a merciful solution to their situation?Don't know, not enough info. If its just a myth then its terribly incomplete and other than the fear of snakes, fear of fruit, and human desire for what they cannot attain i m not sure i get it.
As far as the connection with the myth of Prometheus: . Prometheus creates men and then feeling sorry of how helpless they were steals fire from the gods to protect them, therefore incurring the wrath of the gods. Prometheus is both the creator and the provider of the forbiden goods. And he is the one judged, not the humans rescued several years later by hercules. The humans do not suffer any consequences. Cool myth but not exactly parallel to the genesis myth.
.
interestingly enough, the homepage of www.watchtower.org has the gall post a link ripping the trinity because, if true, "it should be clearly and consistently presented in the bible.
guess they don't like anyone infringing on their rights to create.
No.(If I was would I would not be trying to show where the bible says that the Holy Spirit is a seperate person.) Why do you ask?If you are looking for active JW why not start a new thread?
i was never able to swallow fully the wts's silly reasons on this one.. how could god require marital fidelity on one hand and allow his 'faithful ones' to engage in polygamy and in some cases in the ot the use of prostitutes to satisfy momentary needs?
and on other the hand to condemn such?
no irreverance intended here - just an honest question.. jeff

Regarding your theory of polygamy being acceptable only if the man has multiple wives but not if a woman has multiple husbands, I discovered something interesting the other day. Did you know that Joseph Smith married several women who were already married to other men? Without divorces taking place first. So apparently women marrying several men was ok in the early history of LDS.Also he told one of his elders that he considered giving his(Joseph's) wife to the elder but the angel stopped him(how very convenient). If the LDS God reinstated polygamy for women also how would you feel if you wife wanted to love and serve more husbands than one?
