Marking for reference. I too would be very interested to know exactly what it says, preferably well in advance of my inactive JW being assaulted and beaten over the head with it.
No rest for the weary :-(

Why Evolution Should Be Taught
by hamilcarr inwhy evolutionary biology is a crucial part of the curriculum .... .
optimism in evolution.

I could just as easily point out that if macroevolution was a fact, beyond any reasonable doubt.... then why aren't Jewish boys born without foreskin. The Jews have been circumcising on the 8th day for how many years? Why do I still have to shave/wax my legs, underarms and bikini?.....
A comparable question might be, if all parents gave their child an ankle tattoo of a butterfly at 8 days old, would babies start being born with butterflies inked into their ankles?
I've been following this thread but really prefer to just watch quietly. I did have to comment on this though. No hard feelings intended yknot, it just seems that you are adamantly opposing something you don't fully understand? -

Barf! Puke! Ugh!!
by Frequent_Fader_Miles infacebook's all you ever wanted to know about the bountiful blessings awaiting faithful ones in jah's new order!
check out these comparisons with satan's filthy world ..... the new system verses what saten 's system has to offer:.
saten's system: unequilty, there are thousands of imigrants, but its not their fault, the country does not supply food for them because they are using the money to fight their war's instead of bringing enough food into the country and supplying jobs for them.. .

The person who wrote that is either a young child, or a complete idiot. I'm guessing it's a kid; it's really sad to think of children and young teens viewing life and the world that way, but at least with kids the odds are in their favor to wake up as they grow up. If an actual adult wrote that, it appears that getting a clue might be far beyond the realm of possibility for that unfortunate individual.

Why do people use so many derogative, belittling terms on here like....
by reniaa inmaybe for the same reason the bible namecalls:.
sinners.
undeserving.

Reniaa, one important distinction regarding these terms: Words like borg, Witchtower, etc refer to the organization -- and this is indeed an organization that swallows people up and sucks them dry for its own purposes. On the other hand, terms like worldly, bird food, etc refer to individuals, tossed around as self-righteous hatefulness from a position of false piety.
I'm sorry if you feel insulted or uncomfortable by some of the terms for the WTS that are used here, but I really think you should look deeper into where that is coming from and what such terms are actually saying. I don't use them myself (except, occasionally, borg). The individual human beings who are trapped in "the borg" can get out, but first they have to see it for what it is.
As for the WTS teachings coming from nuggets of scriptural "accuracy," well sure that's certainly the case in many instances. The problem is that the WTS takes small scriptural nuggets, isolates them from context, twists them into something that is NOT remotely scriptural, and then brings down this "enhanced interpretation" like an iron fist. Often the end result is very heinous and destructive stuff that is passed off as "Jehovah's word, expanded upon and relayed by Jehovah's mouthpiece." Think about that. -

Why I Believe The Bible, A Nuclear Scientist Tells His Story
by whereami inthis guy obviously hasn't done enough research.. http://www.watchtower.org/e/20040122a/article_01.htm.

Wow, by his own admission his "scientific research" into the matter is thus:
((regarding the book Did Man Get Here by Evolution or by Creation?)): That same night I began reading the book that the Witness had left. Frankly, the contents impressed me. It was written in a logical manner, and it contained numerous scientific references concerning the subject of evolution. To my surprise, I learned that the Bible contains much more exact information regarding creation than I had previously realized. I finished examining the book in a few days and had to admit that what the Bible actually states about creation does not contradict the known scientific facts concerning life on earth.
Well that settles that!
I agree with what someone else above said, that this man is certainly a fluke and the society is hardly teeming with nuclear physicists. Still though, this is astonishing to me.
He also mentions the value of education:My parents often reminded us children that the only way out of poverty was to get a good education. As a result, at a very early age, I set my mind on obtaining a college degree.
Shame that most young JWs will never have that option themselves.

The growth from within - more focus on youth coming soon
by passwordprotected inwith the wts blatantly 'stealing' the lds practice of family worship (home) evening (see previous thread), i foresee them going even further.
it's going to become about keeping the youth.
think about it, asides from 3rd world countries, there's little growth happening from the door knocking.

Yes and no; it seems to me there has been a rather bipolar approach to youth recently. I agree that holding on to the young ones is the only chance they have at this point, but the WTS is simultaneously grabbing them tighter and pushing them out the door. Lame attempts like the "hip" new version of the YPA book for instance, are completely out of touch. The actual stance of the GB about things like education and social interaction and means of communication/information flow will go over like a lead balloon with young people. The "plan" seems to be to trap them young, in hopes of barring later escape, but that's a pretty crappy plan IMO with little potential for long-term viability.
Now, if they did start adopting things such as youth groups, outings, social meet-and-greets, fun and vibrant activities for young people, that would worry me way more, because it could actually work to keep young people in and engaged. The Mormons do substantially better with their youth for this very reason. I will be both dismayed and amazed if that happens with JWs, though; "more family study" doesn't cut it by a long shot, and isn't going to hold young people in beyond bumping up the numbers and making it look like growth and retention on paper. But bringing back group activities and fun and genuine fellowship and association -- THAT could be the path to engaging and retaining people young and old, and making them WANT to be there. I don't see it happening though, because it's too far removed from the controlling clampdown that is the modern formula. -

And the clampdown continues, big surprise. They should be at least as afraid, if not more, of the parents using the Internet.
