Hey, DD, I used to be a Creationist myself. I've read Behe's book Darwin's Black Box (1996 edition), among other publications supporting Creationism of one sort or another. I support an honest examination of all points of view. Would you do the same?

Evolutionists - please help!
by Georgiegirl inok. (taking deep breath) i am finally at that point in my recovery where i am ready to look at evolution as more than a loose theory which is clearly disprovable by the fact that all the bones proving it could be in a coffin.
or, um, some illustration like that.. i feel like first i have to "unlearn" the jw teaching of evolution to learn what "real" evolution is.
then, learn about that and then see how i feel.

In the spirit of examining both sides of the issue, I also recommend watching Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed which I was able to finally download for free using Emule. Check out the New York Times review here.

So, the president of "Science Against Evolution.org" is a Seventh Day Adventist who designed weapons for the US Navy and writes software for computers.
Here is a fine quote from their "Young Earth Astronomy" article:
"When we talk about the formation of the Sun, we aren’t really in the realm of science any more. We are speculating whether or not it is possible for hydrogen gas to condense that rapidly. That’s philosophy—not science."
I encourage everyone to read that whole website. Fundamentalist Creationists are their own worst enemies, and they don't even realise it!

Hooberus, do I detect a premise hidden within your post? Is it something like, "humans were created perfect and are now declining from that initial state of perfection"?
Please keep in mind that up to 99% of all species that have ever existed are now extinct. Why should it be assumed that genetic changes always improve the fitness for survival of any species in particular? Why should it be assumed that environmental and ecological conditions will always be favorable to all species at all times? Why should anyone just assume that there is an anthropomorphic deity personally directing creation according to the tenents of a very narrow modern belief system (fundamentalist Christianity)?
Finally, did the poster ask for another pointless Evolution vs Creation debate?

by SnakesInTheTower inwell, it finally happened.
a week ago sunday my fiancee and i were sitting in the living room drinking coffee and watching the morning talking heads when we heard the crunch of tires on the gravel in the driveaway, about 10:30 or so.

so much happier since leaving!
by starbox120862 ini was loosely allied with the jws thru my teens after my mum studied with them, finally getting baptized at 30. no one else in my family went, my mum had stopped, i used to hang around on the edge at meetings, mainly ignored.once an elder came over and reproved me for having a little coloured sticker on my bible to distinguish it from all the other identical ones.
once a sister offered to give me a lift out on the work, then another sister, an elders wife, came and said i couldnt go because her daughter needed the lift.
theres a lot more, it was totally a clique.

Welcome! I too am so much happier since leaving even though most of my family is still in.
I dont think its the true religion but I dont know what is. I see flaws in all the other religions and think "I dont believe that", so I havent taken any steps in that direction and just thank God for nature and the lovely world.
Perhaps this idea that there simply has to be a true religion is just a kind of sales pitch that groups like the Witnesses use to get converts. Think outside the box. There may never be a true religion.

Are there ANY Bible prophecies that indisputably came true?
by nicolaou in.
i mean a prophecy made before the event, with specific detail that can be verified in history books.
nothing vague like 'reports of wars'.. .

The Egypt/Nazareth one:

Honestly, I detect no "personal distress" in any of the posts made by Leolaia. All I read is a knowledgeable and direct examination of the actual evidence. I can imagine that such examination may cause "personal distress" to believers who are confronted with the possibility that their belief system has been built upon an elaborate fiction.
The skeptic will rely on "coincidence" or an accusation of clever gospel writers (which is inevitably meant to imply that the clever writers invented/lied about the details of Jesus' life so as to ensure they matched the tabernacle/temple type) to explain away the prophetic nature of the Passover/temple/tabernacle.
Let me refer once again to the events surrounding Jesus birth and childhood. Since both "Matthew" and "Luke" claim that prophecies were fulfilled in the birth and early childhood of Jesus, why do their stories differ on so many counts. For one example: Did Jesus and his parents go to Egypt or Nazareth?
So, are the narratives of Jesus' birth just pious fictions compiled by "clever gospel writers"?

In answer to the original question: NO.
In response to the off topic tangent about the gospel accounts of Jesus' life: All anyone has to do is read the first chapters of Matthew and Luke to know that the gospels don't even agree on the events surrounding Jesus' birth and early childhood. "Eyewitness accounts" my ars.
As already pointed out by Leolaia and Mrs. Jones, 42 is the Answer to the Ultimate Question of Life, the Universe, and Everything.
