On very rare occasions my "god" returns my offerings to me. He definitely lets me know when he is not pleased. He often dictates to me what kind of offerings he wants by placing images of certain foods in my mind. Sometimes I wonder if he really cares about me, because all he usually wants is junk food!

My god is my stomach. I cannot see my stomach, but I know it exists. I worship it every day with offerings, some of them burnt!

Dr Colin Campbell speaks about his research:
Colin Campbell speaks at GRCC Wellness Forum
Keep in mind that the animal products of modern "factory farms" have little in common with the old fashioned farming methods of fifty years ago. There are other factors involved too, like average portion sizes, food preparation methods, environmental toxins, etc.

Why is the US so afraid of Social Health Care?
by eyeslice ini just don't get why the us is so afraid of social health care, and is so opposed to the canadian and british models.
the plain fact is that there are far more americans without access to health care than the combined populations of sweden, norway, denmark and finland.. a measure of the maturity of any society has to be how it sees fit to re-apportion its wealth.. we are quick to criticise african leaders who line their own pockets but leave the masses in poverty but cannot see that blindly following capitalist principles is much the same.
if we live in a wealthy society then part of that wealth has to be put back into society as a whole.. .

Coffee,
I did not mean to imply that you were one of those selfish property owners. When I reread my previous posts, I saw how that comment could be construed as being directed at you. I'm sorry for the misunderstanding.

Coffee,
"And how do you presume to know my heart and the hearts of other hard working Americans?"
I don't know you. I only know that you are opposed to "free" health care. What else can I assume? Since there is no option for free basic care currently available from private souces that can be made available to everyone in the country, it is up to the national government to provide something, anything.
Besides, I am an American. I am single and have no children. I have worked hard for a living. I am currently unemployed. My previous job had no benefits. The local economy is in bad shape. I'm using my savings and moving back in with JW family.
I'm really a very conservative person. I don't want to ask for assistance. I don't trust the government either. I have no chronic illness that I am aware of, but what if I did?
I stand by what I said about property values and the attitudes of (some?, many?, a majority?) Americans. Just Google "tent cities" for current news stories about local governments evicting homeless people for violating codes. Even churches that offer a place for homeless to set up tents are being harassed. Why should it matter if poor people set up shelters on public or donated land except that those with property are selfishly afraid of losing wealth?
I am very much concerned about the plight of homeless and poor people, just as you are, because I am poor, though not as poor as some. I am fortunate enough to have family support.

Coffee, Did you read the article? (Click on - Is It Now a Crime to Be Poor? - in my post above.)
You say you don't trust the government, yet your grandson is asking that same government to do something about homelessness.
You say you provided for your family's health care. Does it not matter that other's simply cannot do the same? How can you presume to judge the life circumstances of others?
From where I am sitting this is the mentality expressed by so many Americans today - "I've got mine. You get your own somewhere else. And don't do anything that might lower my property values while you're at it."

Perhaps it has something to do with the overall mentality in the USA towards the poor and working class.
It seems that the government would rather imprison people than provide useful services for them.

There are already some fuel efficient cars on American roads. Between 2000 and 2005 I owned a Toyota Echo that cost approximately $12,000 to buy new, not including finance charges. It regularly exceeded 40 miles per gallon in every day driving and even got 50 miles per gallon on long road trips. I put 130,000 trouble-free miles on that car. Assuming an average price of $2 a gallon for gas in the five years that I owned it, I probably spent less than $6500 on fuel.
I'm sure the new electric vehicles will be technological works of wonder, but try getting them serviced when things inevitably start to go wrong. Who is going to be able to afford these new electrics and hybrids? Why can't they instead focus on being dirt cheap and reliable like the Honda Civics and Toyota Corollas back in the 70s?

Unloaded on the husband of my wife's study sister last night, how much damage did I do to myself??
by insearchoftruth inwell had a really good weekend away from home, but i guess i knew that the respite from the wts would end.
tuesdays are the day my wife has her personal bible study with the sister and she has also had the husband come over on tuesday afternoons so the son can have the pleasure of a bible study (which he loathes, he is a high school junior and has no interest in this stuff).
i get home from work late, after a fairly long day and the guy is still there.

I agree with Reniaa's first sentence. As a result, it would be so much better for the WTS to discontinue the preaching work, since anyone can now access "apostate" web sites and ask Witnesses embarrassing questions in the door to door work.

About time to "Batten Down the Hatches"
by AK - Jeff inmy wife has been out of work now for over a year.
she is tail-ending her unemployment very soon.. our county is experiencing close to the worse rates of unemployment in the country right now [ elkart, indiana - obama's economic poster child ] is just 50 miles away.
our county has a rate nearly equal to theirs.

It's not easy when you have kids to look after. I hope you and your wife can come up with something that gets you through this time.
My work has been up and down over the past year and a half. I was the only employee, and it has been hard on my boss too. I haven't had any work to speak of since the end of June. My rent is low, and I only have myself to take care of. In fact my goal in living here has been to lead a simple life with as few obligations as possible. For a while it worked. However, it finally got to the point a month ago that I decided to sell my truck and leave this island.
Right now, things could be much worse, I suppose. Until the end of the month I am basically on "vacation" on a tropical island in walking distance from the Caribbean. I get up early and go jogging. I may ride my bike around town, then come back to my apartment and surf the net. I can go snorkelling along the shore. I didn't really want to leave, but there are few opportunities, and the locals are better at networking for available work than I am. So, soon I'll be leaving on a jet plane... don't know when I'll be back again....
I am going to stay with my JW parents. I don't know for how long though. They are financially stable and have an extra room for me. I agreed to go back to the meetings for the first time in over three years to make them happy. This shall be interesting.
