JW friends- Who am I talking to and what do I say?
by detective indungbeetle said this in another thread and i thought it could prove helpful to those that are still in contact with jw friends and relatives.. jw's defense of the watchtower is merely a thinly disguised effort to defend themselves personally.
recognizing this defense mechanism for what it is will be a first important step to breaking down these psychologically harmful barriers.. i was thinking that perhaps we could talk about how we speak to jw friends and, even more important, how they speak to us.
i found dungbeetle's very insightful.

Confession.
by detective init occurred to me that perhaps one of the differences between a catholic confession(s) and a jw confession before an elder(s)is that the priest tries to figure out what's appropriate for forgiveness, whereas the elder(s) try to figure out what's appropriate for punishment.
forgiveness versus punishment.
would you say that's a relatively accurate assessment?.

When they talk about leaving...
by detective ini was thinking back to my conversation with my friend and he said several times that he was torn and thought about leaving the organization.
he didn't address anything specifically and does not seem at all able to criticize the group in any fashion whatsoever so i'm thinking that it's an emotional response and not an intellectual one.. .
i think it's pretty telling that he can't bear to speak critically about the group.

Reasoning from Watchtower world
by detective insorry, this is a long post:.
i had a conversation with my jw friend the other night.
i thought i'd recap some of the arguments presented even though i didn't get to touch on all of the different counter arguments i would have liked to present.. on "worldly" people: i tried to explain what it felt like when i first realized that derogatory comments were being said about non-witnesses.

Passive agressive behavior- a common JW trait?
by detective ini'd like to ask a serious question about passive agressive behavior and witnesses.
i know a variety of non-witnesses who are passive aggressive in their behavior so this is obviously something of a attitude that anyone can have.
but i was curious to find out if people think this behavior is common among witnesses?

disturbing thoughts from witness site
by detective ini found this on a purelanguage.net thread.
what smug, bizarre, self-satisfied comments.
it's sad that these folks don't realize how ugly some of the things they say (and apparently think) really are.. an excerpt:.
