  Witness Self Hatred

  i do wonder if the average witless has been beat down with so much.

  propaganda that they hate themselves.

  willing to blame themselves for anything - and react fanatically.

  From what I've seen, I think there is something of a chain reaction of self-loathing which begins at the highest ranks and filters downward to rank and file.

  I've known people who are deeply self-loathing who then turn around and belittle, emotionally blackmail or insult to manipulate others into conformity. I suppose this could happen with people who are self-loathing and NOT JWs, but I absolutely think the group structure and stresses contribute heavily to the problem.

  I think the "high" of being unique and special is ultimately outweighed by the "low" of not being unique or special enough to be worthy. Hence, self-loathing.

  Pet Peeves

  anyone have any pet peeves they'd like to air?

  here's one that just happened at work that is an annoyance for me: when you are speaking and the person interrupts the conversation with a corny play on words or the like.

  for example, "i had to sit on the phone on hold for about 5 minutes, waiting .

  People who don't walk to one side of the hallway/sidewalk/stairway (preferably everybody keeping to the right... maybe the left in the UK?) You don't walk four people across blocking oncoming pedestrians, it's just rude. And really irritating.

  I used the very same buying a car analogy with my JW friend back in September. Of course, I went on to explain that while researching we occasionally find things- sometimes negative things- that we never would have otherwise expected...

  If I weren't so gender-impaired and darned agnostic I would probably be an excellent addition to the watchtower writing staff.

  I'm guessing that the person that "dropped a dime" on you probably said that they were innocently surfing this web and didn't realize it was an apostate site. They saw mention of PLN and were shocked to find one of their own posting on this apostate site.

  That is, if it wasn't the moderator himself poking around here.

  I wonder how many other "apostates" are playing in their haven? (C'mon, lurker, you know it's true. Bugs the heck out of you, doesn't it?)

  Just In: Andrea Yates To Be Executed

  the state of texas will execute andrea yates for the murder of her children.

  the jury decision was just announced.

  she had choked and drowned her children to death, five in all.

  I'm in no way attempting to excuse what happened but I also wonder about the husband's part in the tragedy. No, he didn't drown his children and presumably would never dream of doing such a thing but I think he certainly failed them. He knew his wife was mentally ill, suicidal and all around unstable. And yet he left his children with his wife in an unsupervisored setting. If his wife truly was mentally ill (I tend to believe she was), she would not be able to recognize her inability to provide care for her children. However, her mentally "stable" husband should have recognized the dangers of leaving your child in the care of a suicidal, unstable individual.

  Would any of you leave a child with someone who could hardly care for themselves, was substantially depressed, occasionally incoherent and expressed suicidal ideations? Probably not. Assuming her husband was the sane one, what was thinking? Clearly, he was negligent to some degree in this situation. I think he knows it though. I suspect he stands by his wife because he knew how ill she was but also, because he feels a degree of guilt for not protecting his children's best interests and ultimately their lives.

  I think life in jail- not the death penalty- because I really do believe she was mentally ill.

  What an incredibly tragic situation.

  i was looking at a magazine while waiting for my son to come out from seeing his doctor a couple of weeks ago, and it had an article in it about dick cheney.

  (i think it was a magazine named architecture.

  ) it showed pictures of the home cheney is favored with living in during his tenure as vice president of the united states.

  when i was an active jw, my closest friend was the wife of an elder who had been disfellowshipped because of an affair with a pioneer.

  i loved her and we got along great together.

  i considered her my very best friend.

  On another note, I've been "betrayed" by a non-witness too. The difference is that it was never to the extent that my witness friend betrayed me and it was only my witness friend who used God as an excuse to behave disgusting, horrible manner.

  celebrating the death of Jesus

  am i the only one bothered by the way the jw's refer to the memorial as a celebration of the death of jesus?.

  i understand that jesus said to keep the tradition of the last meal, but should it be referred to as a celebration?

  this should be a solemn occasion and not one we would look forward to celebrating.

  I think a celebration of death ends up sounding like "better him than us". Which, on some levels, I think might be subconsciously true. I'm thinking that if you spend all of your days trying desperately to avoid death, someone else dying so you don't have to would be cause to celebrate.

  Unrelated but equally disturbing...

  "Recently we had a brother and his wife visiting from Bethel. Both congregations from our city met at the hall for his slide presentation one evening and on Sunday for the talk. It was sooo peaceful even if the Hall was really full of people. I sat there for awhile looking around and was thinking since we are all here anyway and safe, wouldn't it be nice to open the doors when this is over and find armageddon happened and the new world is about to start!!"

  Just how long do these meetings last anyway? Years of build up for an armageddon that lasts- what?- less than a couple of hours?
