this article was also carried in the Boston Globe today. I'd be interested to see how they stirred up interest. Is persistence the best way to get the press' attention? Hmmmm.

New York Times & UN/WTS
by biblexaminer innew york times december 15, 2001 .
in a startling revelation, the watchtower bible and tract society of brooklyn ny, parent organization to the jehovah's witness religion, was exposed for a stark contradiction in their religious practices.. it was revealed this week by the guardian (a leading uk newspaper) that the governing body of the watchtower religion had secretly erected a christmas tree in celebration of the festive season.
when the facts were made public this week, the watchtower quickly, and quietly, removed the tree to another location.. paul gilles, spokesman for the watchtower in great briton, wrote a letter to the guardian, in which he stated that the "tree was in no way secret" and that it was "necessary to gain access to the un library".

Hi Mac,
I somehow missed your post on this! That's really great news that we've got some coverage in Italy. So, that's England, Itlay and I believe someone said Germany? I guess our Canadian efforts haven't panned yet. Now if only we could break the American press in an article as well as our one successful letter to the editor by sapphire. That's really good news, Mac.
Thanks for the scan. Too bad I only know a few essential phrases in Italian... like how to order a good cup of tea.

Watchtower Propaganda
by JosephAlward inmany have argued that articles in awake!
in recent years show that watchtower was letting itself be told what do by the purple beast, namely, promote the united nations in its writings.
i can understand how many might quickly find support for this claim, for there are, indeed, many articles in awake!
-
detective
Okay. I think understand. The Watchtower didn't need to become an affiliated NGO to access the library. Thanks for clearing that up, Alward. Your conversation with the UN just verified what we already know. Not only could they access information without affiliation, they CHOSE to affiliate with the scarlet coloured beast. Their doing so was completely elective and a completely unnecessary to gather resources.
If you believe that pathetic loophole attempt is in any way viable, you are seriously mistaken. You already shot (yet another) hole through their information acquiring motive. We already knew as much but you confirmed it.
So what was their motive, Alward? It wasn't informational resource gathering because they didn't need to associate on an affiliate level for that. What was their motive?Mind you, if you say something about defeating the "beast" from within would you rather we point as we laugh at you or would that be rude?
C'mon, you seem smarter than this.

Wow! Have you read the comments from readers on that article? I hate to admit it, but I actually shuddered when I read the posts by those two Krishna followers (? terminology?).
I'd cut and paste some of it but I haven't got time at the moment.
Yikes!

Why can some question and others not
by joelbear inwe are not jehovah's witnesses because of a variety of circumstances, but one thing we all share is that we question.. what factors come together to make us questioners?.
intelligence?
but i know a lot of very smart non-questioning jehovah's witnesses.. bravery?

Yoyo asked,"Was this personal reading of apostate material?"
You may want to specify which apostates you are referring to. As mentioned earlier, Mormons believe ex-mormons are "apostate" but I suspect that you would would not consider reading ex-mormon information to be apostate, just a waste of time.
Assuming you are asking if he was reading ex-jw materials (your version of "apostate"), I would like to ask you if you believe it is possible that information from former witnesses could ever contain facts? Could it ever contain any truth?
