these are things i always had a very hard time explaining and believing as a jw:.
birthdays whether at school or at work, this one was really tough to explain to a non jw.
i mean seriously, makes absolutely zero logical sense...salvation it was very hard to wrap my head around the idea that a loving god could destroy billions of people; and this, after reading the ot and the many baby slaughters therein...smoking say what you will about this unhealthy habit, making it a dfing offence because of dubious ties to spiritism??
I used to ask elders about these things until they forbade more questions on the grounds that I was spiritually weak.

It's even more complicated than that. All indigenous mammals in Australia are marsupials. Noah would have had to drop off, not just kangaroos, but all of Australia's marsupials at the same time. And then he would have had to float about 5,000 miles back to the Middle East. Must have been some mean currents in that flood.

Assuming that's true (and I'd love to know how they came by that information), if Peter and Paul were alive today, they'd probably roll their eyes and go back to fishing for fish.

my husband was talking to his sister on the phone today, breaking the news to her and one thing she kept bringing up was that god has to have an organization on earth.
Even if one accepts the idea of God, the belief that he would choose just a special few on earth is preposterous. I've looked into and read about a lot of religions over the years, and not one has an irrefutable dogma or morally superior people.

Even my dub parents never made me "study" a Watchtower before the meeting that "discussed" it. I read along at the meeting; that was enough. The articles weren't exactly rocket science.
i spoke with a fellow ex-jw whose wife is still a jw.
she was missing some meetings, but had to get to her first meeting of the month.
she needed to turn her "time" in.
Having been The Most Reluctant Dub in the World, I made it a point as a teenager to avoid field service like the plague. I almost never managed to make even the minimum (at that time) of 10 hours a month. Every once in a while an elder would gently suggest I try a little harder. I did as they asked. I tried a little harder to ignore them and I succeeded.

im not trying to be self-righteous but i want to understand the thought process of someone who knows the origins of christmas, but starts celebrating it (putting up christmas tree, exchanging wrapped gifts; repeating merry christmas to everyone they see in the month of december)??
it seems very silly to me (imo) after knowing how and why christmas was created (to cater to pagans sun worship and convert to christianity)!!
Bring back that old-time nature religion !

Finally-Free: ... they have no problem having a turkey dinner and inviting others over. They have no problem walking around the neighbourhood to admire the Christmas lights others put up.
You're right about that! My JW mom gets indignant at being left out of the festivities at Christmas, even though it's by her own choice! My sibs and I have found the only way to mollify her is to bring her a gift sometime during the week before Christmas as well as some cookies. If that isn't celebrating Christmas, then I'm a hobbit.
Rocco's photo is back in season again, FF. Does he like to pull candy canes off the tree and eat them? My parrot does, so I make sure to buy fruit-flavored canes.
