Most experienced internet users refer to it as "feeding" the trolls. It is the reaction they were hoping for, any reaction, but especially vehement and negative.
sbf is a known troll (but paradoxically also occasionally has something useful or profound to contribute, which is I assume why the mods keep him around.)

Real skeptics are skeptical about anything that lacks evidence, not just things that support their worldview.

Gen 7:19,20 NWT:
19 And the waters overwhelmed the earth so greatly that all the tall mountains that were under the whole heavens came to be covered. 20 Up to fifteen cubits the waters overwhelmed them and the mountains became covered.
That is why everyone assumes that. Or why Biblical literalists do. And why people who make fun of Biblical literalists operate on that assumption. -

Has anyone ever submitted a "Question from Readers"?
by M.J. in...and had it printed, perhaps?.
just wondering.
what's the process on doing this anyway?

LOL, "Questions From Readers" is obviously manufactured. It's either used as a teaching tool (in which case the question is completely made up out of thin air, written by someone in the Writing Department) or in some cases a synthesis of many letters the Society receives. Simply scanning the past questions will convince you of this beyond any shadow of a doubt.
I'm not even certain the "Letters" section is real, though it's possible. -

The Bible fallacy of free will
by sinis ini was thinking about this the other day and it seems the bible or jw fallacy that god grants free will to humans is completely wrong.
free will means god does not get involved in human affairs.
so then i started thinking about the tower of babel, the flood, etc., and how god actually intervened and changed the course of human history/future by such actions, thereby affectively negating any human (on the personal level) decisions as to loyalty (god or nimrod as an example).

Free will is ipso facto impossible in any single-universe reality in which a) time travel or b) omniscience or c) absolute determinism exist.
I believe in free will. Therefore, I do not believe in a) time travel, b) omniscience, or c) absolute determinism.
Most monotheists believe that God is omniscient, though I'm not convinced that the Bible says that. In their worldview, no free will exists. And in fact many of them profess belief in fate. However the Witnesses reject fate and predestination, which means they can't logically teach that God is omniscient. And yet they do. -

One of the best ways of examining the early history of this board is to go to Simon's user account and look at his topic history.
You are essentially correct in your assessment of the early (ostensible) origins of JWD. The part of your statement that I believe is historically inaccurate was "I know Simon has decided to allow some more free thinking lately, but I really feel things are starting to get out of hand."
I think things started to go South (from a faithful Witness perspective) pretty early on, not "lately."
But your use of the phrase "free thinking" makes me believe you're being subtly sarcastic, anyways, and trying to stir things up (aka trolling) with quasi-apologist statements that you probably don't really mean. After all, you're here posting, aren't you. -

There are JWs happy to be in that org
by greendawn inwe on this forum were all more or less unhappy with the wts for one reason or other and inevitably we left that religion which we consider to be in fact a cult.
we can't understand or imagine how anyone could be happy living in that negative environment yet there seem to be quite a few dubs that are happy and content being jws.
apart from the obvious ones eg those that have some status which gives them a sense of importance why do others feel happy being there?

I don't think that nearly as many Witnesses are happy with the non-social aspects of their faith as there used to be. I remember being happy and seeing many other happy Witnesses in the 80's and early 90's. These days though, if it's not a "get-together" or a "pot-share" or a convention where you can walk around half the time, most Witnesses seem pretty dismal.
I could be imagining that and it's highly subjective, but it seems that way to me. They light up and enjoy the social aspects, but the worship and preaching aspects don't seem very popular or (forgive me) "happifying." -

Do you think Jesus gave every Christian a personal commission to preach?
by under_believer in"go therefore and make disciples of people of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the father and of the son and of the holy spirit, teaching them to observe all the things i have commanded you.
i am with you all the days until the conclusion of the system of things.
" (matthew 28:19, 20 | nwt) .

"Go therefore and make disciples of people of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the holy spirit, teaching them to observe all the things I have commanded YOU. And, look! I am with YOU all the days until the conclusion of the system of things." (Matthew 28:19, 20 | NWT)
The Society uses the above scripture to support the idea that each individual Christian has a personal commission to preach and teach to their fellowman. Adding to their argument is the fact that Acts, and the Epistles, appear to support this idea. They tell the story of a group of dedicated (though not always united) men, giving their lives in service to their God. Surely, then, this should be the model for modern-day Christians seeking to follow the first-century ways, right? Every person who calls themselves a Christian should be out pounding the pavement, right?
Right?
Another way of reading this, however, is that Christianity as a whole was given a commission to preach and teach. That the work should be accomplished by Christians in aggregate. After all, not everyone has the ability and temperament to preach, do they? Some people might do more harm than good in their fumbling attempts. Perhaps Jesus really meant that, while Christianity's goal as a united group was to preach, individuals might do other activities in support of that goal.
And too, we are to consider that the New Testament for the most part tells the story, not of the rank and file, not of the average Christian, but of the shining lights, the luminaries, the superstars of first-century Christianity. Was everyone expected to go on missionary tours? Was everyone expected to go to the synagogue and orate? By the same token, should we expect every modern Christian to be Paul? Or Peter? Or John?
What do you think? -

Though the SDAs are a logical choice, if you want to keep the Adventist worldview that SDAs and Witnesses share, but want to escape from the cult atmosphere.
