Just about to leave for my celebrations, but before I go, more thanks to eclipse, Brinjen, PEC, delilah and Open Mind.
Brinjen: 'Would you like anything?' Err... many things...! ^_^
Open Mind: 'I hesitate to mention this Zico, but the 21st is the only Birthday that dubs in our area unofficially "celebrate" sometimes. But what they're really celebrating is that now you can legally go pretend you're not getting drunk. ' Well, legally, I've been able to do that since I was 18, but it's good to know if I ever go to the US, I can pretend not to be drunk there too! :)

Thank you - Sad Emo, sspo, AlphaOmega, Bikerchic, Livelife, Trevor, Josie and ex-nj-jw. :)
I haven't been around here much lately as I've been very busy, but I thought I'd come on and earn some attention for turning 21! ^_^
I didn't celebrate last year, though I was strongly doubting the Org, I didn't feel ready for it, so this is quite special for me, got my first birthday cards and pressies ever at work today, and a small cake too. Will be going out to celebrate and get more stuff this evening!!! :) -

JWs vs. Jesus Christ
by R.F. inchoosing life made a statement in another thread saying that just mentioning jesus too much will get you a concerned look from other jws.
i thought "oh how true that is!
" the thing that is intriguing to me is the fact jws are so quick to state that they are the closest thing to first century christianity.

Jesus is mentioned more than twice as many times as his father in the New Testament, so who would you assume was the central figure in first-century Christianity?
The WT actually have a box in their Revelation book about how the first song book they produced had twice as many songs about Jesus as they did Jehovah. The second was about equal, and the most recent has 4 times as many about Jehovah as they do Jesus. It says it's in line with Jesus' comment that 'The father is greater than I' The writers of the epistles would have disagreed. -

Scotsman,
If the bible is inerrant, and written by imperfect humans, why can't Jehovah direct the imperfect writers of the Watchtower publications, so they don't make so many mistakes?
Do you know of any bible writers who received 'New light' and re-wrote sections of their books or letters several times over their lifetimes? -

What makes 'the Truth'....THE TRUTH?
by BizzyBee innutshell premise: the central doctrine of christianity is that jesus christ died in order to atone for and secure god's grace for the sins of all mankind.. then what is the central doctrine of jws?
(it most surely is not the above.).
iow, what, essentially, is 'the truth'?.

I heard of an interesting statement apparently made at the Convention.
The speaker said (roughly):
'It's interesting, that the 1st Century Christians referred to Christianity as 'The Way' whereas we call it 'The Truth' Personally, I prefer 'the way' because 'the truth' suggests we know everything'
Funny, I thought Jesus was both 'The Way' and 'The Truth' -

Assuming by 'scam' you mean set up with dishonest means, I don't think so, no.
JWs are a scam IMO, because Rutherford showed by his actions that he didn't really believe his teachings, and Ray Franz showed some of the GB didn't believe their teachings, so it was run by dishonest people.
A lot of religions were founded by honest people and have honest leaders now, whether they're right or not is a different matter. -

Since JWs believe they teach the only 'truth' they have the responsibility of coming up with reasonable explanations for scriptures which show their doctrine is not in complete harmony with the bible. Clear statements like those found in John 20:28, bring up questions that JWs can't answer. They should be able to answer these if they have teach the bible's absolute 'truth'
