'You have to admit that they require some real mental gymnastics to apply all those prophesies to some obscure convention or propaganda release of theirs.'
It is quite impressive how they do that though. I couldn't. That Freddy Franz had quite the imagination.

Why alaways the 2nd or "Greater" fulfillment of prophecy?
by zack inone of the things (among many) that always bugged me about the wts, was their insistence on biblical prophecies always having a .
2nd or greater fulfillment.
always, like everything else about the wts, it was based on conjencture.

This forum using same type of thinking as Jehovahs Witnesses?
by AirDuster ini notice one of the biggest complaints around here about the organization is often related to their constant use of the "us versus them" mentality, (i.e.
"we" need to be seperate from "them" because "they" are wrong and "we" are right).
yet i also notice that many of the posters here use the exact same kind of rhetoric and thinking.

I agree with part of what you write. I think there is a Us vs Them attitude here against the WT, that's mainly against the Org as a whole rather than specific JW individuals though, which is different to JWs who would be against apostates individually. I really, really like a lot of JWs, and when I'm long gone from their religion, if I no longer see them, it will be because of their choice, in that sense I wouldn't say I'm against them, and I'm sure many on the forum feel the same.
I think they started that 'Us vs Them' attitude as well. If the Society didn't hate apostates, they wouldn't cause nearly as much hurt for people who want to leave, which has led so many to this forum. -

Looks like you put a lot of work into that. Good research.
I doubt any JW will go near it. -

A JW e-mailed me about this one, so I replied to ask him if he remembered the Panorama episode about the Society covering up for peadophiles. He said 'Oh, was that them? I guess if they over-exagerrated that one, they might over-exagerrate this'
Of course, after further e-mails, I found out he hadn't seen the episode about JWs... -

Any Answers to Some Questions?
by sammielee24 inam i correct in asserting, that according to the way that the jehovah's witnesses discipline their members, that baptism is the only way that you are one of jehovahs witnesses?.
a person committing an offence that results in disfellowshipping, must be a baptized jw in order for the punishment to occurr?.
a person who is disfellowshipped or disassociated is announced to the congregatin as 'no longer one of jehovahs witnesses'?.

A df'd person is lower than a worldly person in the JW view. Shunning people isn't as much a punishment for those who are disfellowshipped (or Disassociate) It's more of a 'protection' for people in it. The Society is afraid of ex-JWs, they're not as afraid of worldly people, who rarely care about religious affiliation, and know little about the JWs.
'In other words - to defame, harrass or invade one's privacy when one is no longer one of Jehovahs Witnesses, is cause for legal recourse is it not, since the laws of membership within the religious organization no longer apply to the individual?'
Courts won't get involved in religious cases, even if you have a good case. Barb Anderson had a superb case, but she didn't win because it could be linked to religion. I don't think it would be worth planning to do. -

Can God see the future?
by Adolfius ini've been out a while, but i remember thinking about this as a teenager and being confused, (my mother told me i must be posessed by demons to think such things and so never offered me an explanation).
what do the jws say about it.
if jehovah can see into the future, he would've known what a mess he was going to make of creation so he would've decided against it before he even thought of it.. based on the theory that he went ahead and created everything anyway, that must mean he can't see into the future.. i also seem to remember that god doesn't interfere with man, because we have free will, so all our actions are down to us and in no way "steered" or "influenced" by god.. so how can he make predictions about the future, i.e.
-

Adolfius, The JWs teach that God has the ability to see into the future (as he's all powerful) but he chooses not too, as this would remove man's free will. As sir82 said, since God can never be wrong, if he looked into the future it would remove free will. According to JWs, he looks into the future for certain things (Prophecy) and predetermines those specific events, but chooses not too in general.

Comments you will not hear at the 5-13-07 WT Review (Loyal to GB Jesus)
by blondie inloyal to christ and his faithful slave.
what interesting points: cross, christmas, pyramid.
q12, 13) what scriptural reasons are there for showing respect for the slave class?.
-
Zico
'Therefore, when we loyally submit to the direction of the faithful slave and its Governing Body, we are submitting to Christ, the slave's Master. Our showing due respect for the instrument Christ is using to manage his earthly belongings is one way in which we "openly acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord to the glory of God the Father."'
This statement shows exactly what 'following the Christ' means to them.
This is they type of thing JWs will hear at their upcoming Convention. -

The Trinity ( arguement to end all arguments I hope )
by 5go ini pretty much don't think much of christendom.
but why do christians insist on holding such an unholdable position with the trinity.. the bible i agree holds proof for both trinity and nontrinity positions.. i still don't get why that christians other than catholics would hold such an untenable position as god came down to earth but didn't, and he prayed ( talked ) to himself a lot.. .
i remember a comedy sketch were some kids were stumping a nun in catholic school with question on the trinity and the eurachrist..

5go, you seem to have mixed up a few posts that are attempting to explain the Trinity as posts supporting the Trinity. If I wanted to post a pro-Trinity arguement, I'd post scriptures. If you're going to argue against something, you need to understand it.
You showed in your first post you didn't understand it, when you asked how could Jesus pray to himself? He didn't pray to himself, he prayed to his Father, which does NOT contradict the Trinity, which teaches Jesus and the Father are SEPERATE.
This is what the WT does, misrepresents arguments. How could evolutionists believe life got here by chance? How could Trinitarians believe Jesus and the Father are the same person? They make themselves feel special by making everyone else appear stupid. I know this, because I've argued against misrepresented ideas of Evolution, the Trinity, and probably other things without a proper understanding of them, and ended up looking silly. I know you didn't do this intentionally, so I don't mean this as a criticism. :) I don't doubt I'll do it myself again in future! It's the way I've been programmed.
