  tezza and me have been friends since we were 4 yrs old.

  we share a long history and were both raised in "the truth".. recently, his sister, his sister-in-law and myself have left the org.

  ( all seperate situations).. anyway, next week he wants to go to the nearest pub with me, and shoot some pool, have some beers and a long chat.. when he asks why am i not coming back.

  It completely depends on the person.

  If he is driven more by emotions, then silent lambs would probably be best.

  If he is more interested in prophecies, then 607 would probably be best.

  If he is more interested in JW related history, then the UN thing might be best.

  If he is more interested in science and reason, then talking to him about the global flood and other Bible stories might be best.

  But of course the best way to convince someone of something, is to tell him what convinced YOU.

  Kids First? "I Believe that Children are the Future"....

  ok, who knows what michael jackson really believes about children, but generally speaking "worldly" people (sorry for the jw speak, but you know what i mean) indeed believe that "children are the future" and that "kids come first".

  often, "worldly" parents act accordingly, and their children thrive because of the life choices (often real sacrifices) the parents make.

  The Bible and Gambling.

  it is generally accepted that gambling is not a christian thing.

  so much so, that jws are not supposed to play the lottery, make bets or wagers, play poker, even playing poker with fake money is frowned on!.

  God’s Word does not discuss gambling in detail , but it does say enough to show that all gambling is incompatible with Bible principles. For instance, it is widely acknowledged that gambling incites greed .

  

  It's probably the other way around. Greed may incite gambling. But to claim that gambling incites greed requires some evidence.

  Also, there are plenty of other things that result from greed. When they start disfellowshipping people for having a nice car, or more than one bathroom, or shrimp and lobster instead of rice cakes and lettuce, I might take this seriously, but why attack gambling, when there are SO MANY other things that are worse or the same?

  Gambling also incites egotism and an unhealthy competitive spirit , a strong desire to win.

  Then what about when Samson made his bet?

  Also, how about Slot Machines? Gambling with no competition. So there is no 'contention'.

  Further, gambling encourages in some a superstitious reliance on good luck . Gamblers develop all kinds of superstitions , hoping to influence luck in their favor.

  Only if they're an idiot! In which case they have bigger problems than gambling. Also, this ignores the fact that god included casting lots as a way of choosing a course of action and dividing up land. Wouldn't the Israelites have been tempted to 'influence luck in their favor' while they are dividing up the land?
