  My mom called today

  she always calls me at work.

  i haven't heard from her in almost 3 months.

  (she never calls anywhere near the holidays.

  I understand completely. I was very close to my mom - even after I was DF'd she kept a close relationship with me - we went to dinner, shopping, movies, etc. But someone must have gotten to her because this last November she chopped it all off and will only have limited contact with me. She's elderly and lives alone so she lets me know if she needs help...and that's about it.

  Each person mends in different ways - but it helped me to vent here. And, it REALLY helped me when I sat back and took a look at the family I DO have - a wonderful husband, two terrific kids, and in-laws that have taken me in with open arms. I decided that although the borg had taken my old family - God had replaced them already with a new family that was more loving and supportive than my mom, dad, and brothers had ever been or even dreamed of being.

  In the end - our family is not necessarily blood related - it's who we CHOOSE to be our family. It hurts to have your mom reject you - of course it hurts, we're human! Hang in there and keep your focus on the family that really counts!

  Pleasing Jehovah or Pleasing the Congregation??

  i was always annoyed with my ex for using the words "pleasing to jehovah" to describe certain actions.

  in actuality, he an his family (and i suspect others as well) seemed to be much more concerned with pleasing other witnesses or members of their congregations.

  as an outsider, it seemed to me that they were always looking for "loopholes" to get by with certain practices, as if they thought they could trick jehovah or that he wouldn't notice so long as they were not reproved or disfellowshipped.. my ex sister-in-law regularly spent the night with her boyfriend or he with her.

  Hey wordlygirl:

  I guess you could say they are trying th please the organization more than Jehovah - but the truth is (as I see it) - they are under so many strict rules they just try to slip out from under that heavy load whenever they can. I think that so many JW's find and use loopholes because they HAVE to - they're being crushed under this huge weight that the society has put on them.

  Jesus said that his yoke was kindly and his load was light - definately not the same Yoke that is involved by the society is it?! He also warned that wolves would come in and not treat the flock with kindness - I believe the JW organization is one of many fine examples of this.

  constant fear I can not get rid of

  i have this fascination with holocaust stuff, the memorial, movies like shindlers list, the history channels programs they have.

  last night i watched the pianist.

  it was an incredible movie.

  Hey jwbot:

  I can empathize with you! I used to have nightmares very similar to yours. After leaving the JW's the nightmares continued, just mutated into new scares - like my kids falling off a boat in dark water and I keep diving in and can't find them.

  Last year I had a very highly stressfull and frightening situation I had to deal with (a murder of all things) - and my nightmares got even worse. I had problems sleeping and had to take medication just to get enough sleep to function.

  I'm much better now and nightmares are few and far between - here's what helped me (1) counseling. Talking out my nightmares with a counselor helped me address those fears and put them to rest. If you can't afford counseling then a good friend you trust will do you wonders. You don't necessary have to see a counselor - just putting those fears into words and then talking about what the source of that might be helps. They become more tangible and can be dealt with that way. and (2) I stopped watching scary movies. I know it sounds funny - but I found that because of what I had gone through last year I was just too highly sensative - when I stopped watching anything that was the least bit scary or high impact stress on TV I started getting better. Watching movies or reading about the holocaust only continues to feed your fears right now. It would be best to avoid it until you have dealt with the fears and laid them to rest.

  Did Jesus exist? Yes - I did extensive research on this a few years back. There is more references it Jesus in historical documents other than Josephus.

  Does it matter? Yes. Learning the truth about the JW's was my first step to freedom. Learning the truth about who Jesus is brought even more freedom.

  Yep - I know what you're talking about exactly! That doesn't mean that the person has "demons" - it just means you you're paying attention (or are more sensative naturally) to forms of communication other than the those we generally rely on for everything (sight, sound, & touch). As a nurse you must have taken some Anthropology classes......remember how animals communicate through smells? We humans have lost a lot of that ability - but I think that some still posess the ability to pick up on what might be called an "auroa" of sorts.

  The people I met that made my skin crawl.....I found out later were not very nice people. So when I get that feeling I listen to it - I think it's nature's way of warning you.

  ok, granted i am a newly-transplanted californian to portland....so maybe not a big deal to most.. but i'm told this is unusual for portland....snow has been falling all morning, there are about 3 inches now...it is a soft, feathery dry snow.

  i've already been for a few walks ... it is so quiet and muted out especially for a city.

  It started snowing on the 26th here - we've had quite a bit since then - still snowing today - with more expted through this weekend. We usually have very mild winters with only 1 or 2 days of snow at most - so this is quite a change.

  The sledding is fun! But the driving sucks.

  my mother gave me the last few watchtower and awakes when i visited her this week.....in the 1-1-04 watchtower, under the article---"jehovah's word is alive---highlights from the book of genesis---1"-------on page 29, the question is asked:"did jehovah god speak to adam directly?

  " notice their answer.

  "the bible reveals that when god spoke to humans, it was often through an angel.

  facts about the JW religion

  i'm putting together a brochure for release in my area - to local churches and bookstores.

  on the first panel i want to explain to the reader why the jw religion is not a "harmless" little church.

  so i decided to list in bullet format a few facts that the average person may not be aware of.. for example, bullet 1 will be information on the number of children who have died because of refusing blood (any ideas where i can find exact numbers??).

  Thanks Brymichmom and onintwo. I found it.

  I'm going to keep the brochure really simple:

  1) Info to get the reader interested into why they should care - I listed just three major points: (1) people forcing shunning if they accept transfusions - and children dying for this...(2) pedophilia problem...(3) fun quote from the WT saying that a woman would be willing submitting to rape if she didn't scream (nitwits!)

  2) A short blip about how they can help simply by being prepared to "witness" to the witness when they come to the door

  3) Two easy topics to "witness" on. (I'm still working on this one)

  4) A section with links to more sites and info in case the reader is interested

  It'll probably take me a few weeks to finish up but I'll make it available to ya'll when I'm done.
