Some things I'd like to do in life....

teach my students (future) how to think.. live somewhere other than chicago for at least a year.

learn how to cook kick-ass healthy meals.

travel asia.. own a horse.. write a book, even if it never gets published.. have sex in outer space (okay, i'll settle for the beach).

I tried bungi jumping once - scared me to death so I think I'll pass on the sky diving.

But I am learning jazz dance, and have a trip planned in the spring to learn kayaking.

I also want to finish my bachelor's degree (in progress), learn to ice skate (instead of just falling on the ice and knocking everyone else down), race a car (we're building a race car now - so if I can just get over my "chickenness"), and raise my two kids to be self-sufficient, well adjusted, and happy.

Winning the lottery jackpot would be nice also.

Taking stock of my blessings....

i've been df'd for a number of years, and up until recently have been able to maintain a fairly close relationship with my parents.

dad passed away a few years back and since then i have tried to keep my mom busy so she wouldn't be alone - phone calls, shopping, dinner, etc - and i took care of things around her house for her.

well now mom has decided that she needs to follow the wt rules and cut the "socializing" with me - of course, it's "acceptable" for me to still go take care of her when she needs it .

Yes - it sucks to think that I put so much into this relationship only to have it thrown back in my face. But I guess life isn't always fair.

drwtsn32 - we DEFINATELY need to meet up again soon. I sure had fun with ya'll last time. I'll e-mail you guys this week - maybe we can all pick a restaurant or somewhere to meet, kick back, enjoy some wine or a drink!!

Does anyone else still get Armaggeddon Nightmares!!

i haven't posted for a few weeks as i have been back at work busy beavering away, however as it is my day off i thought i would see if anyone else has the same trouble that i have, and also if there is anything they have found useful.. i have always had trouble eating properly and sleeping ever since my early teen years, but over the past couple of years or so (even though i know i don't believe the watchtower teachings anymore) i have at least 3 or 4 times a week, the most vivid awful nightmares about armaggeddon, and the different ways that jehovah is going to destroy me because of my wickedness.

i wake up in tears and shaking with fear, and then i am not able to get back to sleep, i just lie awake until the morning not daring to close my eyes.. i can't believe that as a grown woman, the watchtower teachings keep coming back to haunt me.. lainey.

ps can i also thank all the posters for the kind personal messages that i have received since i came here

Somehow that is a part of my life that I find difficult to talk one to one about.

Laney: I think this right here is the ticket to why you're still having the Armageddon dreams. I had them too - until I talked with other people about the religion, how it affected me, etc - and when I had worked it all out the dreams went away. I think that the dreams continue to plague us as it is our subconscious trying to make sense of things - once we talk through it and work it out then our subconscious goes on to other things (like pink kittens - still have no idea what that dream was about! )

So my advice to you Laney is to talk to someone about your life as a JW - and also talk with them about the doctrines - it'll help you to look at it all more objectively and help free you from it.

There is light at the end of the tunnel - although I had Armageddon dreams my entire JW life they are now gone. I have not had one in over 5 years.

Thanks to each of you for your support! I have a choice to make - I can be happy or I can be sad, and I choose to be happy. But then again, I have a lot going for me in my life so the choice is easier to make. It is so much harder for others here who do not have the kind of support system I have.

As for my mom, she is all alone now - I was the only family she had here. When I'm out doing things with my family and friends my heart aches for her being alone and lonely - then I remind myself that it is only by her choice - then I feel a little better, but to be truthful I still feel bad that she is alone. Silly isn't it?!

I have been heartbroken this past week. But I realize now that perhaps this is a good thing in that it forced me to sit back and take stock of what I DO have. So - just to make myself feel better I thought I'd put it all down in writing:

* A wonderfully supportive and fun husband

* Beautiful healthy children

* Terrific in-laws that welcome me into their family

* Freedom to learn what I want to learn, be who I want to be, and live!

* Holidays - hey, it is that time of year! And they can be so much fun.

I guess all in all, I have a really good life. And although I am heart broken - it will mend, in the interim my family and friends will be there to help me through.

a long discussion with my a sister a full time pioneer who now stated that since my father, mother and myself no longer have faith in the org but only to god is spirtiualy weak and she has decided not to call us any more.

i read several scriptures about neglecting your father and mother but it is the org's word that came first.

i read to her many scriptures on making sure your family is well taken care of but to no avail she quoted a magazine..... my sister had decided not to have children believing the end is near but it never came when the org told her it would come.

(((mole))) I am going through very much the same thing. My entire family has turned their back on me (oh yea, except when they NEED something from me). But I have been fortunate enough to be blessed with a new family (hubby and the kids), in-laws that love me a bunch, and a great new set of friends.

I am hurt about what my old family did to me - but I'm not really sad any more - if that makes sense. I guess I'm not sad because I'm not lacking anything in the way of relationships.

Well - you are right mole - your sister will be very lonely. But maybe some day she will realize the situation she is in and have a change of heart. In the mean time - I wish you the best and I hope that you are also blessed with friends and family who love you.

Holiday decorations on the Kingdom Hall

you know... last year i chickened out... but i'm thinkin there's these two trees in front of my old hall... and they look just like xmas trees... god, wouldn't it be funny if...?

if we had a mass movement and bunch of apostates went to as many kh in their cities and threw some decorations up?

i wonder if the dubs would think it's the end of the world!

Or..........you could forget the decorations completely and just gather a group of good hearted friends to go caroling....say around 7:00-7:30 on a Thursday evening? Or maybe on Sunday?

My story in part....

well i guess i should give you my story as of now.

i have been a jw now for about 6 years and have been the model witness.

about a year ago i started reading my bible and writing down verses that i didn?t understand.

Welcome What the.....

I can relate to your story - I started finding a lot that didn't "mesh" with the organization teachings when I started reading the bible by itself. I asked my father about it and his response was "well, you can read the bible all you want but you won't get a clear understanding of it without the help from the society"......what the?!

It sounded exactly like my Mormon friend who believes she can't have a clear understanding of the scriptures without the help of the prophet who is the only annointed one to receive light from God......sound familiar?

Keep reading - and pray to God asking him to open your eyes to the truth. You'll be amazed at what you find.

What was the purpose of Creation?

i was talking to some jehovah witness in a bible study, and we got into a conversation of heaven.

i told him that we would all be in heaven and live there, and he told me, "what would be the point of god creating the whole earth and putting us here then destroying it?

wouldn't it just be easier to repair the earth and place us here again?

I think part of the answer can be found in the end of Revelation - that heaven and earth will be joined - God will actually live with his people. I think "heaven" is really only a state that is in existence while "sin" is in the world - it was originally meant to be heaven/earth combined - and will again be combined.

Not sure you'd find that in any formal christian teaching though - it's just some thoughts I have come up with after reading the bible.
