My brother was just married and I was not invited - however, he did send an invitation to my son AND ask that I pay the plane fare for him to travel cross country and attend - plus rent a tuxuedo so my son could be in the wedding. I wanted to tell him to shove it up his....(you know).... BUT here is my advice...
Your younger son is taking this all in and watching how both you and your older son handle this situation. Handle it with dignity and grace - keep your chin up (no matter how hard) - acknowledge their desire not to invite you but don't hide how much it hurts. Let them know that you love them and are deeply saddened that you are not invited - but do it in a kind and dignified way. And don't put your younger son in the middle, he may feel like he has to stick up for his brother or something. Also - let yourself be sad and cry - don't try to act like this is the way it's supposed to be or that it's normal - it's NOT normal and you have been treated very badly.
In my situation I did pay for my son to travel and rented his tux. I told my son how much this whole thing hurt me, but that it was still a positive thing in my brother's life and we should celebrate it as best we can - that I was going to try and handle this as a christian should. My son went to the wedding, and after coming back he made it pretty clear to everyone that he thought that JW side of the family was full of crap and he respected what I had done.

What really strikes me is that it took this woman THREE WEEKS and RESEARCH to answer a simple question "what do you mean by worship". If a person can not answer what they believe without help - then how can they say they believe it?!
Didn't the Lord tell his disciples not to be afraid of what they would say as the holy spirit would direct them?
Off the top of my head and from my heart here is what worship means to me: any expression from myself to show gratitude and love for my God and for my savior. It can be in the form of singing, prayer, sharing my testimony, any type of praise that comes from the heart and is for HIM.
Wow - and I didn't even have to scuttle back to an elder to ask for directions on that one!

Could you provide me with info on newspaper articles regarding this individual? I have been looking for something that would strike a chord with the public in my area and I think this just may be the one. I'm tossing around the idea of publicizing on a billboard as a victim's advocate to advertise (1) report the crime, and (2) get help with a reference to silent lambs.

I think the answer is somewhat along the lines a few others have spoken. It is not accepting Christ as your savior and asking for his forgivness because why would you repent of that if you didn't believe in it?Of course, once you do, and you ask for forgivness, then the slate's wiped clean and you're forgiven. So there is really no way to loose out on eternal life other than just refusing to accept it.
On the suicide issue - only a truly sad and broken spirit attempts suicide - not a rebellious one and not one that refuses Christ - just a very lost and sad person. I don't believe God punishes individuals because they made a mistake, because they "sinned", he only punishes those that refuse to repent. Romans 4:7-8 "Blessed are they whose transgressions are forgiven, whose sins are covered. Blessed is the man whose sin the Lord will never count against him" - the bible doesn't say blessed is he who DOES NOT SIN because we ALL SIN.

why is it that every time there is an argument on this forum, there are at least 5 to 7 threads that pop up talking about how we need to make up, how we should get over it, and how we need to start over/ .
none of them point directly or quote directly from the original flame thread but all beat around the bush though we all know what they are talking about.. do those threads really do anything to help the situation or do they continue to pour salt on an open wound?.

I just confessed this to someone the other day - I realize that I always think I'm right in any religious discussion - wonder where that came from?? So I'm working on accepting that I am not omnipotent in knowledge (damn!) and that I just might be wrong sometimes.........not a lot........not very often.........just sometimes
i was in town the other day waiting in line to purchase something and ran into an old jw friend i haven't seen in over 17 years!
we started to visit (of course - i didn't say anything about being df'd because i don't play those games any more).
she was really friendly and visited for about 5 minutes until i tossed in a couple of comments that made it pretty clear i was no longer a jw (thought i'd test the water & see her reaction).
I was in town the other day waiting in line to purchase something and ran into an old JW friend I haven't seen in over 17 years! As I commented that my son had just gone to his highschool Prom, was playing sports, and we were trying to decide on which College would be best for him.......her expression changed and she suddenly had to go. hmmmmmmm could it be something I said? What a shame.
Well - I kind of chuckled - then explained to the lady in front of me that I'm a "shunned" JW because I don't want to be in their religion anymore. She looked at me for a minute - then said "I understand completely - I'm a shunned Mormon".
It's funny how you can tell the "outsiders" and the "insiders" by their choice of topics and the words they use isn't it.
