The longer you spend away from the organisation, the more utterly cringeworthy this term sounds when you hear it.
Like they are all one big happy family.
What JW phrases make you cringe?

hi everyone, yet another analysis of a recent watchtower i'm afraid.
this one's a little closer to home, as it concerns apostates.
yes - i'm referring to the forthcoming article "will you heed jehovah's clear warnings?
I guess by speaking openly about my honest objections to the religion, I'm an apostate.
Mind you, keeping all my objections welled up inside for years & trying to live the life of a faithful witness nearly drove me to suicide.
So, I'll go with the apostate tag. I'll also keep on speaking about beliefs & practices of the religion which are clearly wrong & damaging to people - disfellowshipping, shunning, the blood issue, thought control, etc, etc.
coffee shop guy directed me to his thread...thank you so much everyone for your thoughts of support, it means a lot to have people who understand and show genuine sympathy.
here's my experience so far.... my father dies monday night & my brother (nonjw) calls me to come home, when i arrive my father is still sitting on the couch- all the jw family is sitting in a semi-circle around him, my non jw brother is standing in the next room.
no one is crying, no one is talking.
Sorry for your loss. You remembered your dad in a lovely, sincere way.
JW's can even turn the death of a person into the most inhuman circumstance.
Cold, heartless.
can someone tell the wts/jw's how utterly counter productive & cruel shunning is?.
apart from serious crimes where a person might conscientiously have nothing to do with a friend/relative, people who are struggling with any kind of issues generally need love, support & kindness.. shunning is unnecessary, evil & humiliating.. does the punishment really fit the crime?
someone caves into the 'sins of the flesh' so they are cut off from all human contact with everyone they know?.

And don't give me the excuses about the supposed idea that it's only those who aren't repentant. Do me a favour! We all know that is absolute horse shit.
Anyone who supports shunning as a form of dicipline or rehabilitation is kidding themselves on big time.
It is evil & those who carry it out are fulfilling scripture for all the wrong reasons.
Shame on them.
why can't people in jw congregations see just how utterly creepy this whole arrangement is?.
a girl about 20 years old commits an indescretion of a sexual nature.
three middle aged/old men 'interview' her in a room.
Wow. My sympathys go to you.
I never realised that the elders actually JC people who have been raped.
Sometimes I can still be surprised by them.
Shocking.

Quite.
The other facet of all of this is that if a person is truely sorry before god then why the need to explain your indescretion to men?

A girl about 20 years old commits an indescretion of a sexual nature. Three middle aged/old men 'interview' her in a room. All alone. Asking the details of said indescretion.
I mean, what is the crime here? The girls fornication or the fact that three old men want to sit and listen to all the details of it?
I have heard that in some cases elders have been extreemly rude & have asked very personal questions.
Why don't JW's see how perverted this is?
How can any decent parent allow their child to be put through this?
i came across a website that presents decent argumentation against three main areas of jw doctrine.. http://jwreform.org/index.html.
who do these people think they are?
do they really believe that the wts will sit up and take notice of their objections?

Who do these people think they are? Do they really believe that the WTS will sit up and take notice of their objections? Do they really imagine that the arrogant & stubborn members of the governing body will consider their petitions and effect change within the organisation?
As long as I have known this religion they have year by year tightened their grip of control over peoples lives. Even despite getting rid of one of the weekly meetings, the language used in WT publications gets more and more frighteningly controlling.
How can any single JW feel that the GB might one day relinquish control in areas like thought control & disfellowshiping?
I'd be interested to know if there has been any dialogue between the two parties other than "you're disfellowshiped."
Thoughts?
anonymous brother does it again!
(huge round of applause!!!

Wow. Eve is stunning there.
The look on her face as she takes it in her mouth..........
cult classic on a thread about funeral talks commented "i would always find myself thinking "how the hell do you know what ____ believed?
i can relate to that feeling.
i remember attending the bonham, texas special talk that was given at the new hall that had just been built (the old one was given to the congregation that had apostasized) and later there was a brief blurb in the kindom ministry that said "all in attendance were deeply touched at the stirring discourse delivered by brother albert schroeder of brooklyn.
Slightly different but I hated somehow feeling responsible for the comments/actions of JW's who were say paedophiles etc.
I somehow felt like I shared their guilt.
The sooner I realised most JW's were f***ing fruitloops & left made me feel much more of an individual. I didn't have to dread reading the newpaper to find an article about the blood issue or a deviant paedophile, as if their actions somehow reflected on me.
