Self-intro, newbie questions

i've been "cruising" the boards for two months now, and there appears to be a lot of very knowledgeable and "cool" individuals here.. i recently embarked on a introductory bible-study with the jws in my area.

i know that probably isn't music to most of your ears, but rest assured that i'm not remotely sold on their theology.

nor am i blind to the past scandals and current issues of the wtbts--i've read about four different scholarly works about the society.. i was raised as a lutheran, and i've had a decent amount of bible-schooling in the lutheran denomination.. my questions to you, those who would know, are these:.

That truth is simply this: NOT EVERY WITNESS BELIEVES THE SAME THINGS OR TO THE SAME DEGREE

You can't completely discount that statement. I have known many witnesses that have held different belief systems and have often joked with my family (in private) about crossing things out of the watchtower. The condition however is silence. If you hold your beliefs in private then you are merely "waiting on Jehovah." Not trying to be apologetic or anything i just know many with different degrees of belief that are content to keep it to themselves. They don't try to change the org.

Underworld Evolution? Aeon Flux? Anyone seen these yet?

Read in scientific american recently that the hole in the ozone layer is starting to close. I guess switching to a pump style hairspray dispenser really did help...

To all active JWs or double life JWs

one of the previous posts made me wonder how many active jws post on this site and how many of you are only in because not wanting to lose your family and you are leading a double life and also how many of you are still active but questioning.

please, all of you, i would like to hear your stories (of course not enough info to give away your identity) and why you are still in.

i think a lot of us that are out would be interested.. nowimfree.

My family keeps me in. They pretty much know that i don't believe but would be "loyal" enough to WTS if i was actually D'fd or Da'd. As long as i can fringe then they still love me and talk to me. I have a few close friends in the truth, also on the fringe and can have a decent conversation with them usually. But i don't do service. I haven't turned in time in over 6 months and before that it was all made up anyway. I go to every sunday meeting and maybe 2 "big meetings" a month. One or two bookstudies depending. My wife knows how i feel about god but right now they aren't hurting her or my family so i can play along. If however they did hurt my family i would become the biggest blister on their side imaginable. (watch out danny!! ;-) My wife knows that if we ever had a child i would allow blood if needed. But right now it isn't an issue. I've told her that i would respect her wishes if she was hurt, and i don't carry a blood card so there shouldn't be an issue if i am hurt.

I recently had this discussion with my wife, (still faithful) even though i still go to meetings i wouldn't let our child or myself die from lack of blood. (i might let her die but she is an adult) The funny thing is she didn't exactly disagree. Just said it was wrong but didn't push the issue. I don't think she would want our child (as of yet still a figment of imagination) to die either.

JWs on MySpace are Freaking Out

i even got mentioned even though i have never posted or joined a jw group.

There have been parts on meetings and DC's about blogs and myspace (mentioned by name). I get the impression that most of the young people don't really care. I have a feeling this might be "the generation" who give up on the nonsense. (at least one can hope) If there was no org then i wouldn't have to pretend for the sake of my family.

Is it reasonable for Christians to believe in 'aliens' ?

by "aliens" let's assume beings capable of making moral choices, having intellect, emotion, and a will (angels, who are extra-terrestrials, also fit into this category, but this answer will deal with three-dimensional, physical beings).
