I sit on my toilet at home daily, and while I do so, I have tile work on the ground and wallpaper on the walls with a pattern. While I look at them, I swear sometimes the images make faces, animals, and other items and yet I know they are just patterns and my eyes trying to make sense of them with images it knows.

They have been willing to sacrifice material comforts in order to serve in places of special need. Some are now advanced in years and face poor health, or they confront other challenging circumstances.
"Other challenging circumstances"? Besides the poor health that comes with old age, what could these circumstances be? Lack of financial planning, perhaps? Trusting in Armageddon occurring before they would need retirement benefits, perhaps? Trusting that the publishing corporation that they helped to thrive would take care of them, perhaps?
I think sir and Mary nailed it - this KM article, in all its transparency, is shameless. The WTS should be ashamed! While Judah Ben Schroeder is educated at the expense of the WTB&TS, the sincere people who actually worked in the trenches are sent to the congos to be taken care of in their declining years. -

CULT CULT CULT
by minimus ini have read many opinions about jw's being a cult.a dictionary describes cult as a system of religious beliefs and ritual .. some have viewed even major religions as a cult, such as the roman catholic church.based upon webster almost anybody or anything that is viewed as ritualistic could be said to be cultic.when someone tries to negate jehovah's witnesses by using.
the "cult" word, i believe they are not seeing that many others could legitimately be regarded as a cult or at least "cultic".therefore the word loses alot of meaning.
some have said that the watchtower is a cult because of the control factor.

From my old, much-used Sociology textbook, for what it's worth:
"The sect is an exclusive and uncompromising religious organization, usually one that has split off from a denomination for doctrinal reasons. Particularly in the period soon after the founding of a sect, its adherents are generally recruited by conversion, with membership restricted to those who give continuing proof of their commitment. The sect is usually less socially "respectable" than the denomination, and its members are usually of lower socio-economic status. Intolerant of other religious organiations, it is dogmatic and fundamentalist, believing that its particular interpretation of the Scriptures is the literal and only route to salvation. The sect also tends to be indifferent or hostile to political authority, which it often regards as too worldly and corrupt. Sects usually have no trained clergy, and rituals of worship emphasize emotion, spontaneity, and extensive participation by the congregation........Contemporary North American sects include Jehovah's Witnesses, the Assembly of God, the Amish and Hassidic Jews."
"Unlike the sect, which attempts to revive or reinterpret older doctrines, the cult emphasizes the new, drawing symbols and rituals from beyond the religious mainstream. It usually has few coherent doctrines and imposes minimal demands on believers: it is open to almost anyone who wishes to participate. The members tend to have relatively low commitment to the organization and people drift in and out of the group. Cults include Rosicrucians, spiritualists, and believers in astrology and transcendental meditation."
WTS is too well-organized at this point to be a cult - upgrade them to a sect. However, that doesn't mean they aren't all a bunch of lying, murthering wankers!

So very sad - the families must be devastated.
A sad aspect of this story is that the memorial services for these women will be used to the hilt for a witness-talk to the audience, rather than an opportunity to grieve a terrible loss of life and memorialize the individuals.
My uncle died several years ago from injuries sustained in a one-car accident on his way to field service. Just rolled the car suddenly - we will never know why, possibly a heart attack or a bee inside the car?
