  The real impact of "apostate" sites

  in a recent discussion with a couple of district overseers and other heavies , the topic of the internet and apostate sites came up.

  i asked what impact these were making , numerically , among jws.

  the prevailing view was that , numerically , there was negligible impact.

  As far as the internet itself, i've always been a firm believer that its the breeding ground for all things bad... is feeding people with filth and crime and embedding new thoughts of things immoral and disgust... and is fueling things such as child porn, rape, incest, swinging, hatred, murder, adultery, etc... all to a great degree. And of course, and apparently, its fueling people to question their faith and beliefs as well.

  IMHO, the internet is just a medium for the exchange of information, much as television, radio, newspapers, books, etc. Those who are interested in filth and immorality have always been able to find sources, though I will say that the interenet makes it easier. However, the internet also makes it easier to access resources for things that are positive. I personally do a lot of research on the internet in order to write proposals that secure funding for causes that combat child abuse, teach kids a trade, cure diabetes, support cancer patients, shelter homeless teens, and provide counseling for a wide array of social ills. I couldn't accomplish half as much of this without the internet.

  well its been well over a year now that ive stepped foot into a kindgom hall.

  it was a rough start with many mixed emotions that i know many of you can relate to.

  over the past year ive learned so much about myself and others.

  Wish I could say yes. The truth is, those early years are some of the most important, when important life-choices are made, and opinions and world-view begin to be established, and life-time relationships formed. There is so much context for making decisions through the JW filter, and very little for making decisions with a new mind-set. I know because I left at 23. I married at nearly 25, but it was more of a back-lash to leaving the org, than an intelligently informed decision. Then the domino effect begins. I was alone out of all my family as an ex-witness for nearly 10 years. No internet then, either. Then other family members began to come out, too. It's early days, Schne. Who know how your circumstances will play out? I can safely say you have many surprises in store - some good, some bad. But one good thing - you have an international support group here. And what seems to be a good head on your shoulders.

  Anxiety symptoms

  ever since i stopped my study i have gotten completely depressed, unable to sleep, i really depended on my study group to keep me sane and give me purpose but now my bi-polar symptoms have come back with a vengeance.

  i thought about going to another church because ruminuating on a creator did help me sleep at night and now i have not slept for four days.

  i never realized how much i was becoming dependent on the religious structure.

  I agree that you should see a doctor.

  IMHO, you are missing the support network more than the actual studying. Do you have other friends as well that you see on a regular basis?

  Speaking of bull.....................

  Her letter is reasonable and rational and her wishes should be respected. Good letter, actually. However, in dealing with JW elders, that letter is like waving a red flag in front of a bull. Not to mix metaphors, but the elders can smell the blood in the water and are no doubt anxious to get to her before she hemorrhages.

  "it's been said....."

  an elder in my hall prefixes his sentences with this phrase: "its been said...", usually followed by some ridiculous bullshit; an example: "it's been said that mans greatest accomplishment has been the worldwide preaching work".

  i guess all scientific and medical advances are secondary.

  anyway, his last one was this: "it's been said that by reading the awake magazine one can get the eqivalent to a college education.

  when i got off for lunch today i decided to go to the walmart deli and get something to eat.

  it is a huge store, groceries, a bakery, mc donalds, a bank , eye center, beauty shop, a great deli, and a huge garden center.

  i had taken back a 80 gig hard drive dvd recorder ( i couldn't figure out how to hook up <smile> and had received 238.00. i picked up a couple of things in the store then went to the deli.

  Good novels - on a Southern (US) kick right now - Cold Sassy Tree, The Secret Life of Bees and Midwives. Just finished TRUE STORY, about the Christian Longo murders - started a thread about it here which died a death - old news, I guess. Lotta grief books now, too.

  I re-read this thread. I see that there were a couple of posts that used the word "stupid" so maybe that's what constituted an 'attack' and 'ripping a new one' which denotes something far more severe to my mind - but then it's not a phrase I use a lot.

  So, with all sincerity, maybe I am missing something here. I, for one, did not see this thread as celebrating a found item, so much as praising Jehovah for answering a prayer. I thought most of the answers were quite humorous and harmless.

  Of course the larger question (and it is an important question - maybe an new thread), is how to treat newbies, especially those in the shadowland that occurs inbetween a small doubt and a big decision.

  I really don't like incurring the wrath of ladies like Butt and WhyIam - I sense that they could seriously 'rip me a new one' with one arm tied behind their backs.

  BTW.................has anyone seen my purse?
