VERY interesting (April 1, 2002 WT, p.19)
by stevieb1 inthis statement is prety interesting.
it's taken from the very latest watchtower article (april 1, 2002) the final sentence of paragraph 14 reads:.
"if jehovah's organization knowingly endorsed false teachings, advice to read the bible would never be given to jehovah's witnesses and those to whom they preach.".

Grandfather died
by Cygnus inand now there is a debate between my father and his sister whether there should be a memorial service at the kingdom hall.. is there a rule whereby an elder who gives a memorial service at a kingdom hall must use the society's outline?
because my father and my grandmother have made it quite clear that he under no circumstances do they want that.
(i'm very blessed to have jw family who do not shun me even with the long hair (yes it is growing back), earring, and, oh yeah, disfellowshipment).

Cyg, sorry for your loss.
FWIW my elder-dad did a lot of funeral talks, some with Bethel-brass around. He always refused to use the outline. Same for wedding talks, memorial talk, and his Sunday public talks. Still he had a busy talk schedule, about three Sundays out of four. Yet for some reason he never did CA or DA talks... Not sure whether such liberalism would be acceptable State-side as well, but I'm pretty sure there's no rule.

Glasto-Aposto-Fest
by Abaddon ina few days ago the license for glastonbury 2002 was granted.. for those that don't know, glastonbury is a music and art fesitval in the heart of the english countryside.
about 100,000 people, music from big names like rem and radiohead, all the way down to small folk bands (there are dozens of stages), including a dedicated world/jazz music stage, hundreds of stalls selling all sorts of food and trinkets, a circus, a comedy tent, a cinema tent, a whole section dedicated to alternative/green technologies (solar-powered internet cafe?
) and new age what-have-you... you camp in tents whilst you're there, and the only real downside is the toilets, unless it rains.... think of a well organised woodstock that gives huge amounts to charities.

ab: Rowwen Heze is a band from Limburg, and their lyrics are all in a north-Limburgian dialect. Not sure if your local Brabo-variety-lingo is sufficient to make anything from it though. I bet it's not.

How Many JWs Fully Buy Into the WT Party Line?
by Room 215 infor those of us with years of acquaintance with the wt and its teachings, it's clear that full acceptance of the 1914 date as the establishment of god's kingdom in the heavens is a non-negotiable condition of remaining in good standing in the organization.
many of us know people who've been booted out just for expressing misgivings, lety alone outright denying this teaching.
almost as central, and as non-negotiable, is the teaching that only baptised jws can expect to survive the big a.. .

Just to prove Room's point:
*** w86 4/1 31 Questions From Readers ***
I was looking for this reference anyway, and this thread made me find it.
Approved association with Jehovah’s Witnesses requires accepting the entire range of the true teachings of the Bible, including those Scriptural beliefs that are unique to Jehovah’s Witnesses. What do such beliefs include? That the great issue before humankind is the rightfulness of Jehovah’s sovereignty, which is why he has allowed wickedness so long. (Ezekiel 25:17) That Jesus Christ had a prehuman existence and is subordinate to his heavenly Father. (John 14:28) That there is a “faithful and discreet slave” upon earth today ‘entrusted with all of Jesus’ earthly interests,’ which slave is associated with the Governing Body of Jehovah’s Witnesses. (Matthew 24:45-47) That 1914 marked the end of the Gentile Times and the establishment of the Kingdom of God in the heavens, as well as the time for Christ’s foretold presence. (Luke 21:7-24; Revelation 11:15–12:10) That only 144,000 Christians will receive the heavenly reward. (Revelation 14:1, 3) That Armageddon, referring to the battle of the great day of God the Almighty, is near. (Revelation 16:14, 16; 19:11-21) That it will be followed by Christ’s Millennial Reign, which will restore an earth-wide paradise. That the first to enjoy it will be the present “great crowd” of Jesus’ “other sheep.”—John 10:16; Revelation 7:9-17; 21:3, 4.

British Holocaust Memorial
by sapo inthe british holocaust memorial day is today, and although the national event is tonight (most likely started), there are local events that have been taking place and will continue through february.
i noticed the jws have a couple of events registered on the local events pagenot sure if they will be present at the national event.
i dont see any thing wrong with this, but the witnesses steer clear of all other national or personal observances.. no birthdays, mothers day, fathers day celebrations.

I've found it interesting that confidential documents in the so called Donovan collection are becoming available on the web. An OSS (Office of Strategic Services) Research and Analysis Branch study, named the 'Nazi masterplan: the persecution of the christian churches', to be used by the prosecution of war criminals in Nuernberg.
If you can download 40 megs of PDF you need the following link:

What has the quite recognizable sound of an East-German two-stroke Trabant to do with a Formula 1 Ferrari? Both have their charm but the combination isn't really sane...

OK all you non-Brits, tell us how you love/hate our British cuisine.
...
8. Vindaloo.
...
Bingo! But then I'd argue that this cannot be considered 'British', although I've had some excellent 'vindaloo' over there. Actually this dish has a Portuguese origin, since Goa was a Portuguese colony. There exists a British 'curry' though:
Chicken Tikka Massala is now a true British national dish, not only because it is the most popular, but because it is a perfect illustration of the way Britain absorbs and adapts external influences. Chicken Tikka is an Indian dish. The Massala sauce was added to satisfy the desire of British people to have their meat served in gravy.

Sleepy: I'd argue that a curry is something different than a tandoori dish.
