My Daughter

yesterday afternoon i took my daughter to a beauty school to get her first perm.

she has been wanting one for a while and i've been resistant until just recently after taking her to a school ice skating party and viewing her classmates...it was time to do this.

i watched her sit in that chair the whole time, watching her go through the process, she enjoyed the whole thing.

Hey Mrs.Jones! Your daughter is beautiful! Getting her hair straightened is going to make her look much older and more mature. You better get you a stick to beat the boys from school off your front porch. LOL

I could use some advice about this. My daughter and I have tried putting an Optimum relaxer in her hair and it relaxed a little but she still can't get it smooth and straight. Her straightening iron works pretty well, but it's really a chore! She is bi-racial and her Dad had what you would call "good hair" Her hair has the fine texture of mine which would easily burn, but is very curly. It looks like mine did back when I kept my hair long and really curly. The woman who cuts my daughter's hair says we would have to be extremely careful about straightening, because her hair is so fine, so she's afraid to do it.

She wants that straight and sleek look. We live out in the boonies and to get to a black hair salon would be about an hour's drive. Then if we found someone who treated her hair like regular black hair, they could ruin her head.

a saudi court sentenced a woman who had been gang raped to six months in jail and 200 lashes more than doubling her initial penalty for being in the car of a man who was not a relative, a newspaper reported thursday.. the decision by the qatif general court came in a case that had sparked rare debate about the kingdom's justice system when it surfaced more than a year ago.. in its decision wednesday, the court also roughly doubled prison sentences for the seven men convicted of raping the 19-year-old woman, the arab news reported on its english-language web site.. according to arab news, the court said the woman's punishment was increased because of "her attempt to aggravate and influence the judiciary through the media.".

she had initially been sentenced to 90 lashes after being convicting her of violating saudi's rigid laws on segregation of the sexes.. under saudi arabia's interpretation of islamic sharia law, women are not allowed in public in the company of men other than their male relatives.. the initial sentences for the men convicted of the gang rape ranged from 10 months to five years in prison.

This is ridiculous. It baffles me when I hear Islamic people on TV talking about it being a religion of peace. Mostly I hear that from followers who live in the States or some other western country. The only reason the Muslims here don't practice these things is because they would be sent to PRISON. Islam is more a religion of hate and intolerance. The way women are treated is inhumane. They are no more than property, at the mercy of their "owner".

Did anyone else notice her male high school friend was attacked to? Did he receive any lashes?

most disturbing movie scene you've seen?

i haven't seen this topic on here so i thought i'd.... hmmm, maybe it's because it's just too disturbing?

to me, the scene in saving private ryan - the two soldiers in the small upstairs room fighting hand to hand to the death (by stabbing).

i think that is the most disturbing thing i've seen on screen and there were plenty just in that film alone.

I watch alot of movies. The Saw movies haven't bothered me, but Hostel did. I probably won't try to watch Hostel 2. I must be calloused. None of these movies have ever given me nightmares.

It's better to be prepared than to end up working at McDonald's. I'm not picking on McDonald's employees. I worked for them in management for 4 years. Yes, the pay was decent--but My God, the stress was unbearable. With a college degree I could have made more money while working probably 15 hours less per week.

In the job market now, you can't even get a job sweeping the floor in a factory without a high school diploma. Even in jobs where a degree isn't required, employers still prefer you have one.

There may be some people who are not mentally capable of higher education. Learning a trade is better than just taking a sales clerk job at Wal-Mart. There are many who own their own businesses who simply learned a trade. The world will always need people to repair appliances, air conditioning units, broken water pipes, etc.

A mind is a terrible thing to waste. The org keeping the new system right around the corner still has the young ones thinking there is no time for education. That's just sad. In fact, I think it should be criminal.

Holiday Field Service

well, with winter and the holidays almost here, field service is about to pose a whole new set of challenges.

it is going to get colder.

in parts of the world, it is already getting there (in the southern hemisphere, summer is approaching and it will be getting hotter instead).. what now?

Personally, I never had to go into field circus (LOVE that term) on holidays. My dad was an UBM so it saved me from some of the craziness.

How I hated field service! The worst was when you called on a school-mate. I tried to keep my witness-hood on the DL.. I'm sure my refusal to recite the pledge gave me away.

My husband told me a funny story about the JW's that happened before I met him. They called on him early on a Saturday morning. He was polite to them. They took that to mean he was "interested". He works nights and partied after work on Fridays. About the third time they called on him on a Satuday morning when he had a hangover--he met them at the door in his underwear with a Budweiser in his hand. They never returned. LOL

You would have to get an account on my-space and then do a search. If someone has their profile set to "private" then it can only be viewed by people who have been added as "friends".

You can send a friend request if you find who you are looking for. They then have to option to add you to their friend list or deny your request.

I made my daughter read the article last night. She says kids at school love drama, but she'd never heard of a parent getting in on it. She had tears in her eyes when she finished reading it. My son read it also.

My daughter has a my-space account, but it is set to private. Everyone on her friends list is a real-life friend from school, or a relative. I'm on her friend list and I know her password, just so I can keep tabs.
