What songs got you through good or tough times?

i've been in an upbeat mood lately.

i don't know if it's all the exercise that i'm doing or what but i've not been moody all 3 weeks.one thing that i've noticed, is that i've listened to certain songs that made me forget about "her" and move on with bigger and better things.

when i was depressed i listened to some songs from tool, some from the cure, barbra manning, the old babyface songs,some from sade, sweetback, and maxwell and everything but the girl.

There is a song by a band called Bender (I think they have broken up, never made it big) called "Isolate". That song used to make me cry and helped me work through alot of feelings.

Anything by the Stones, but especially Mother's Little Helper, 19th Nervous Breakdown and Saint of Me. Keith Richards is my hero, so I'll add his Talk is Cheap and Main Offender cds.

How much persecution did you expect to come when you were a JW?

did you expect, that one day, you would be persecuted for being a jw?.

do jw's today still expect some kind of persecution to come because of their beliefs and actions?

Yes, I expected to be persecuted. I was 5 years old when the Malawi incident was going on and of course we got graphic descriptions in our local congregation. I used to have nightmares about being tortured.

Of course, now I see that their "persecution" is mostly a self-fulfilling prophecy. When you go to such extremes to be different from other "religions" of course people will think you are odd. It's almost like they look for things prohibit, just because it is a custom. Their children are persecuted in school for being freaks. They call it persecution when they get sued over child abuse and wrongful disfelliwshipping.

They call it persecution when someone reveals them for what they truly are using their own quotes. Those old dudes in Crooklyn are deluded, and crap rolls downhill.

regardless of how you feel about jehovah's organization--the true religion, one thing for sure, you will not escape the almighty jehovah's judgement right along with satan the devil and his destructive organization.

How will you save yourself and those who follow you...?

I won't. It is not my job to save anyone, just like God's Own Organization will not save anyone. That would be Christ's place.

It's ashame that your energies could not be put to a more positive use. ...saving lives! Are you doing that now? ....Are you offering others hope?....direction? unity? Peace? Security? a futrue?

Offering others hope? Sure I do. The message from the bible is very comforting.

Direction? Yes, the bible outlines how Christians should live. Of course, when someone makes a mistake I don't spiritually kill them.

Unity? You bet, I've met many Christians and we do tend to stick together. Don't confuse Christian unity with mind-control.

Peace? No one can bring peace to the world until Christ does. All we can do in the meantime is follow the advice at Romans 12:18 where the Apostle Paul tells us to be peaceable with all as far as it concerns us. That's is about all we can do about that.

Security? Security is a relative thing right now. None of us can offer security in this world, only God can do that. As long as we can't control the world governments, economy, and such any claim to have security is unfounded.

if you don't believe in Jehovah...who do you pray to now?

I do beleive in Jehovah and I pray to him through his son Jesus Christ. Sometimes I talk to Christ also. Just because I don't attend all those God-forsaken meetings doesn't mean I don't believe Jehovah is God. To make someone's relationship with their creator depend on organizational hoops is wrong. I've had all my prayers answered since leaving the WT.

One more thing, busy doing Jehovah's will or the WT? I answered your question, would you please answer mine?

One of the long term effects of growing up a JW...

for me anyways.. i still have nightmares about demon attacks.

that was the one belief that really had a grip on me growing up.

i was terrified of demons and even thought i was being attacked one night for bringing home a toy with a pagan symbol (ying-yang) on it.

These are just my thoughts so,,,,,

When you are a JW, everything bad that ever happens is blamed on Satan and the demons. Flat tire on the way to the Kingdumb Hall--Satan doesn't want you at the meetings. Anything that might interfere with meetings or service is put there by demons.

I've never seen such paranoid people. I watch every kind of horror movie ever made. Not been attacked yet. I remember when the Exorcist came out in the 70's we were told if we even viewed the previews we were open for attack. Pah-Leeeeeszzzz

It's just a fear you have to face. But the only thing you have to fear is fear itself.

Why is it always the Husband?

when it comes to talks and study articles about marriage, why is the emphasis always put on the husband about making the marriage work, over emphasis on husbands loving their wife?

women are just as equally responsible for what happens in marriages, yet the wtbs devotes 3/4 of an article on what husbands should be doing and 1/4 on wives, and thats only to be submissive and be respectful, how sad!

I agree with what Blondie said. While my best friend's elder father was beating the crap out of her and her sisters, they were told to behave more respectfully. The elder almost beat his oldest child to death. He beat her until she stopped screaming and could barely whimper, with a baseball bat if memory serves correctly. She left the house, nothing was done about it.

If a man cheats on his wife, his wife is counseled on giving her husband "his due". Same thing if your husband has a problem with internet porn. Elders counsel the wife to be unselfish and satisfy their man.

All those talks and articles about men's headship just reinforces the pattern, IMHO.

Disloyalty and Disfellowshipping - Why are they viewed differently?

a number of people here have either gone through or are going through a judicial committee for apostasy.. some have reported simply fading from the meetings and being ignored, despite them not being disfellowshipped or disassociated.. others have said that a witness ignores them, even when his own kids are df'd.. i can only imagine the pain you go through, but in order to understand this strange phenomenon better, it is necessary to know the difference between disloyalty and disfellowshipping, and why the dubs view it differently.. basically, people get disfellowshipped for messing up, and i'm not talking about apostacy.

dubs in general know that df'd is god's way of reproving them, and that they have a good chance of coming back.. on the other hand, disloyalty is viewed in stark contrast to disfellowshipping.

even if you aren't disfellowshipped, if the dubs have knowledge that you are questioning the "faithful and discreet slave", they see you as a traitor, a potential apostate.. an online dictionary defines a traitor as the following.... 1. one who violates his allegiance and betrays his country;.

It seems they are actively seeking out "inactive" ones to disfellowship them. I think that is the whole reason for them changing the announcement to the congregation to "so-and-so is no longer a Jehovah's Witness.

Remember if you were baptised after 1984 (??) one of the questions you answered was if you understood your baptism identifies you as a member of the organization. SO basically I guess they would see it as treason if you don't agree with the FDS.

Kinda makes me glad I got my disfellowshipping over with 20 years ago.

Blondie, I enjoy your re-cap of the Watchtower studies.

This particular article made me have a flashback to being a teen. Couldn't join the high school band, football games were on meeting night, and those God-Awful worldly kids are there! If my dad had been JW also, I don't believe I would have survived. It gets to the point that if you have fun, it must be SIN.

Also, how are you going to not let recreation interfere with meetings and service when you have something to do at the Hall ALL WEEKEND????? I can remember anytime us Witness kids got together, everyone worried that we would commit some terrible sin. We were watched and usually some reason was found to get us in trouble.

It's articles like these which makes people afraid to LIVE. It's also the reason why many who are raised Witness leave and proceed to self-destruct. Also, at every DC and Circuit Assembly we were warned about music, dancing, dating, getting too friendly with kids at school, missing meetings, even thinking impure thoughts. No wonder we have ISSUES!!

Whew, I feel better. Now I'm going to blast my stereo and dance til I can't breathe. Something with a driving beat, like maybe Public Enemy or Prince (back when he was still great).

Getting married in the kingdom hall ( ..."have you had sex?")

Seems I remember reading a story where a couple were caught fornicating before their wedding and the elders made them dissolve their relationship. You don't want that to happen.
