Notes from today's talk at the KH

i made one of my rare appearances to the sunday meeting today...and really picked a doozy for a talk to have to sit through!

misery loves company, its said, so i'm sharing the latest on "serving with jehovah's unified organization" (please bear with me..... the speaker(who was actually quite entertaining with his illustrations and props!

) opened up with a definition of belonging to an organization: it was, he said "complete conformity by a person to the standards and requirements of an organization"....then he used the example of how any org will kick out a member who chooses not to follow the standards and requirements of the organization...but in fact, in j's org they kick themselves out!

The dangerous attitude is taking a HUMAN viewpoint of the org....that its easy to view it as human, fleshly, earthly instead of being heavenly

We were reminded at the end that the FDS is not perfect

Isn't the speaker contradicting himself here, bythesea? Either the Org is led by perfect, infallible men, or it isn't, in which case the org is "earthly", tainted with error. You can't have the best of both world's: giving the org's representatives the glow celestial authority when demanding obedience, yet acknowledging their human imperfections when confronted with undeniable proof of theological bungles.

They are either one or the other.

(2)how did you respond to that remark?

did you accept that concession or did the absence of unpretentious love in your cong continue to bother you?

I read your post with sympathy and amusement! I believe my JW folks would be amazed at how much they can identify with your feelings esp. about housekeeping, being ready with a kick-arse sermon and looking at one's watch in the field. In the rare moments of self-evaluating honesty, they can even bring themselves to admit there is no love. BUT when pressured to admit that there is something wrong with the Religion, that's when they switch to "but-we're-imperfect-humans" mode.

Yup, other religious groups have no love cos they are not the Truth. JW's lack love only because they are imperfect.

Why does the truthful GB avoid discussing this fading love when the topic of Jah's spiritual paradise comes up?

I mean surely they oughta give us an expert opinion on whether the country congs actually have a stronger shower of Holy Spirit so the rest of them tired dubs can go and refresh themselves in those backwater places where "the need is great".

SUGGESTED POLICY CHANGES to spice up the religion

1. the president of the watchtower society is really jesus incarnate .

2. plural wives are now allowed (but, only pretty young ones!

3. special silk robes for elders (and maybe fancy headgear) .

To seriously keep the authority of elders in check, I propose an Elders Karaoke Night with the congregation. Preferrably held at the end of service meetings, so the elders needn't eat humble pie in front of new comers.

For starters, I am really eager to see BOE perform to "Macho Men" by the Village People. What do yall think?

Wipe those frowns and drop those foreheads. Lording over the sheep is a guaranteed thing of the past when the PO duets "My Heart Will Go On" with the Service Overseer in front of the congregation.

Helping the friends in time of need

is it proper to annonce in the congregation by the use of flyers to raise money thru a garage sale to help those in need in the congregation?

I wonder if one might get away with it at the book study though. Are you planning on helping someone financially, architect? Good on you if you are.

Dear Frankie, How does debating the credibility of your 2 year-old's testimony to his "past life" a waste of time in a thread that is entitled, "Children who claim to remember past life"? Would you rather hear from people who have kids that told them unusual things? Sorry I have no kids. And I kept most of my thoughts to myself when I was one. Thanks for speaking up for common sense, Robdar. Appreciate it. INQ

maybe not - but the cano incident should make us think about an allied problem,.

namely, general corruption and rot.. many years ago, it was not unknown to find strange photos and other materials in a bethel brother's room, after he died unexpectedly.. that doesn't prove that there is a massive problem with child molestation.

Another thing to keep in mind is that the researchers may have spoken in proper grammer in relating what the 2 yr old was saying in baby talk. We do it all the time. But reguardless I don't think it is a point that troubles me at all.

The linguistic study of 2 year-olds needn't be found in research papers, Frankie. These are so fundamental that they're in TEXTBOOKS now. And no, a 2 year-old sounds like a babe because he or she IS A BABE.

I have yet to see a BABE PRETEND TO BE A BABE. The 2 year old you mentioned is a fake. Unless, you have "accidentally" forgotten to mention that he is a 5 year old. INQ
