Hi stilla
Sorry to hear that you've been caught in one of those irritating situations where you'd really like to vent your spleen, but have had to hold back to be polite.
My family used to play host to a pioneer sister too. Boy, did she enjoy taking things for granted. Though she'd tell us that we needn't worry about fixing her meals, she would ALWAYS stick around and wait for us to have a meal, so that we would invite her to join us. Man, could she eat. The only time she didn't join us was when some other bro/sis from our cong invites her to go out for a meal. Also, she wasn't good with house chores, and so she had the luxury of sitting around waiting to tell us jokes and inspirational stories for the christian soul . No, I don't know how she finds all that free time.Anyway, her habits annoyed me to no end, so I began throw some remarks in her presence that hinted at my displeasure. My family felt the same way as I do, but they didn't think it was appropriate to say anything outside of family. Luckily for us, this sister was sensitive enough to know it was time to pack up and leave. But not after bitching about me to some of the cong. I know cos I was chilled by the arctic frost emanating from her close friends.
I guess the moral of my story is this: To fight a bitch, BE ONE.

Thanks for the reply, stillajw.
But that's exactly it, isn't it? I don't recall the letter saying who the PVG members are. Elders? HLC members? Nosey sisters? Overbearing brothers?
All that was mentioned was which committee oversees which, if I recall correctly.
So does anyone know what sorta JWs make up a PVG?

Answering JW Objections
by Rook in2. the father is god .

Before addressing the most common objections, it’s important to make sure that we are starting with an accurate definition of the Trinity. Many who oppose the Trinity do so with a faulty understanding of the definition. Simply put, the doctrine of the Trinity states that there is one true God, and within that God there are three co-equal and co-eternal persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. - Rook
Does the fault lie in their understanding? Or does it lie in the logic of the definition?
Try as i have, I can't seem to get in my head how one can have a SINGLE true God split into 3 persons when the need arises and yet have EACH of the 3 stand as a COMPLETE TRUE GOD on his own. If each of the three "persons" are "components" of GOD, how can GOD be complete when one "component" or part of GOD leaves heaven to sped some time on earth?
4. Jesus calls the Father, “the only true God,” therefore Jesus cannot be God.
In other words, if the Father is the only true God, then Jesus cannot also be a true God and the Holy Spirit cannot also be a true God (distinguishing them as separate gods rather than simply separate persons).
I'm sorry, but what is the difference between separate gods and separate persons?
Is there another definition here that I may not be aware of?
If we understand the true nature of the Trinity, we can acknowledge that the Son and Holy Spirit are co-equal and co-eternal persons that comprise the one true God
So you're saing that the one true God sent a God the Son to the earth who is in actual fact himself the one true God? ????????
It is a misleading generality to say, “Jesus prayed to God.”
Misleading to whom? To those who believe in the Trinity or to those who don't? I don't think the critics have a problem with it. As for proponents, well, it does fit your definition. If the Father is God, then wasn't God Jesus praying to God the Father?
To be more precise, we should say that Jesus (The Son) prayed to The Father in the garden.
WHY? If they are indeed the same ONE TRUE GOD. Why is there a need to get into specifics? In fact would it be wrong to even drop the name "Jesus" and just go with "God on earth prayed to God in heaven"? WHY do you now in this context see a need to split GOD into his components?

1. why are some in the medical community reevaluating the use of blood transfusions?.

No mention of blood fractions and how it IS ACCEPTABLE here. Looks like the WTS is again doing what they did with higher education: "oh we're not against it.. but if you insist on a spirit of independence, you can't be a very spiritual person can you?"

Our Kingdom Ministry Jan 2006
Answer Sheet for the Service Meeting Part Entitled
"A Video That Highlights an Important Medical Trend"
1. Why are some in the medical community reevaluating the use of blood transfusions?
Ans: An increasing number of patients strogly favour not having transfuions; the risiks and costs of blood.
2. Give three examples of complex surgeries that may be performed without blood transfusions.
Ans: Pediatric open-heart, liver and orthopedic surgeries.
3. How many physicians and surgeons worldwide have indicated their willingness to treat patients without blood transfusions? Why are they willing to do so?
Ans: More than 100,000 in 150 countries. Out of respect for their patient's decision.
4. What have recent hospital studies revealed about blood use?
Ans: Growing evidence of unnecessary transfusions; less transfusion results in an improved outcome.
5. What are the medical risks associated with blood transfusions?
Ans: Bacterial contamination, viral infections, suppression of recipient's immune response, and human error.
6. What conculsion have many experts reached regarding the benefits of transfusion alternatives?
Ans: Better patient care, reduced health-care costs; safe, practical, and cost-effective therapies already exist.
7.What causes anemia? How tolerable is it to humans? What can be done to compensate for it?
Ans: A low number of red cells in relation to blood volume. Humans can tolerate much lower hemoglobin levels than previously assumed safe. Administer blood volume expanders.
8. How can red-cell production be stimulated in a patient's body?
Ans: Iron supplementation. In certain cases, the drug erythropoeitin (EPO) may normalize the blood count. [Note to speaker: Please inform the brothers that in some countries EPO conatins albumin derived from blood. Whether a Christian accepts such treatment is a matter of conscience.]
9. What techniques are being used to minimize blood loss during surgery?
Ans: Meticulous surgery, electrocautery devices, drugs that reduce bleeding, and intraoperative cell salvage. [Note to speaker: Please inform the brothers that some products and procedures are a matter of conscience.]
10. Can transfusion alternatives work for young children and for people involved in life-threatening emergencies?
Ans: Yes. An example shown involved a four-year-old child born with a serious heart defect who had a series of complex operations without blood transfusions. In one of the busiest trauma centers in the United States that performs hundreds of major operations each year on Jehovah's Witnesses who decline blood, mortality appears somewhat decreased.
11. What is one of the primary ethical principles of good medical care?
Ans: Honoring the patient's right to accept or reject a certain treatment.
12. Why is it important for Christians to make non-blood treatment choices in advance? How can we do this?
Ans: In an emergency, a victim may not be able to speak to convey his personal conviction. By executing and carrying a HCD card.

Jw vs Christianity...
by Rook instill wanna be a jw???.

doctrinal comparison chartdoctrine/beliefjw supportchristian responseonly the watchtower society can interpret the bible.

I think it really boils down to whether you believe the Bible is divinely inspired or not.
If you think it is, you would feel that the Bible is the Truth and JWs have the wrong doctrine when they contradict it e.g salvation by faith vs salvation by works.
However, if you think the Bible is the fallible work of men, that its Gospels and its Pauline letters have been edited or revised by some anonymous scribes, resulting in disturbing literary contradictions, the written Word of God becomes just another doctrine.
If you believe that the Trinity doctrine is a pillar of Christian dogma only because a bunch of clergy, politicians, and a born-again King decided to silence those who thought otherwise, the Trinity teaching doesn't look so divine anymore. It's just another doctrine, the one that got voted in.
The Christianity that we know today, with such a diverse range of interpretations is a reflection of times past. Did you really think there was only one creed, one interpretation from the age of the apostles till the 4th century?

JWs, why God's organisation and not His church?
by greendawn inthe jws call themselves an organisation and not a church except perhaps very rarely.
but is there something untoward hiding behind this choice?
to me it is objectionable because it ties in with the fds concept as god's sole channel on earth serving his supposed people.

The NWT rendering of Matthew 16:18 goes like this:
"18 Also, I say to you, You are Peter, and on this rock-mass I will build my congregation, and the gates of Ha´des will not overpower it"
In addition to "organization", JWs also prefer to stick with substitutes like "congregation" and "Kingdom Hall" when referring to a local church, not the worldwide one.
And I believe the reason for this is what GGG has already mentioned: they're raising themselves above others on the pedestals of righteousness and exclusivity.
