Take the blue pill?
No, there's no way I could plug back in
yesterday, my aunt was talking to one of my siblings about how things have been changing in our [ex] congregation for the 'better'.. she mentioned how a new circuit overseer has come in and is shaking things up.
the co appointed a ministerial servant (someone, the po & secretary didn't like and i know would never have voluntarily suggested appointment) and some of the 'brothers' that have had no 'responsibility' ever are being given #4 talks.
she also mentioned that the book study will be cancelled and the meetings are being shortened.. a ministerial servant who had a vendetta against some of the elders wants me to talk to a co and basically tell him i left the congregation [and the religion] because of the incompetence of the elders.. i'm not talking to the co and i'm not 'blaming' anyone.

"Freedom is Slavery" District Convention
if a witness sees you, will they acknowledge you, ignore you, be nice to you, or treat you as dead?
The only dubs that would know who I am live almost 2 states away. Since I left that area while still in good standing, none of them would recognize me now anyway. As far as the local dubs? As typical of small minded judgemental folks, they give me a wide birth generally not even attempting to witness. Most don't even risk eye contact, it's good to be a freak
please tell me there are some other metal fans in here besides me!
some of you mentioned receiving flack from the elders because you listen to rap, but surely there has got to be some other rock n' roll and metal fans in here.
i still remember the flack i got for listening to 80's music, classic rock n' roll (loved jethro tull, doors, pink floyd, and so on), and worst of all.....heavy metal!
Hope I'm not overposting on this one Just a bit stoked about music in general.
More along the lines of the originally posted person, another amazing metal band that's something different from the norm is Apocalyptica. They're 4 classically trained cellists that play Metallica, Sepultura, Faith No More plus their own compositions. Definitely worth a look if you haven't already heard of them (I particularly love their version of Refuse/Resist).
damn busch beer.
sorry i only had 8 bucks on me to buy beer.
I live in SE Portland, the land of PBR! Good micros to be had as well, but almost every bar in SE has PBR cheap (usally $1-2 per pint or tall boy can or $10/18pack at the store).

83? Yeah, first grade was a good year don't really recall my music of choice tho.
Was supposed to go to this show last night but didn't get to make it (overbooked my social calendar). The venue was literally 5 blocks from my house

A little on the light side there Quirky, but good music none-the-less
have your feelings been hurt by someone on jwd?.
3 times for me.. sylvia.
Couldn't tell ya (stoner memory)
IMO, not much here or anywhere worth getting hurt over, takes to much work. Not to say that other posters haven't gotten my goat on occasion (especially early on), just that it's not worth the emotional investment of actually feeling hurt for me.
it shows how deeply this stuff is drilled into our heads!.
.
Not struck by lightening per se, but it did take me a long time to make my peace with what I was taught and where I ended up. Since then I've embracd the dark side and have no more concience issues to speak of
Oddly enough, I still feel out of sorts and a bid paranoid when in any place of worship. Churches in general make me nervous and I fully expect to either spontaneously combust or be struck by lightening one of these days.

<--- Total fucking metal head (don't let the straight laced conservative look fool ya )
While I was an elder's kid, I was the elder's kid that had all of the AC/DC albums, White Zombie, Scorpions, Tool, Metallica (black album and older thankyou), VanHalen etc. Yep, definitely got my fare share of shit for my music selections over the years (remind me to tell you about my dad's introduction to "Big Balls" by AC/DC sometime ). Now I too listen to what I like which seems to get heavier every year (won't bore y'all with the list).
LZ - Thanks for posting this up, seriously cool stuff! I have a friend who's an even bigger metal head than I am and can't wait to share this with him. There's just something badass about an old monk throwing the horns \m/ O \m/
