Who did you rather be with in the Field Service?
by JH ini never wanted to go in the field service with an elder, even a ms, or any super zealous person who would knock at the front and back door just to make sure there was no one home.. i offered the magazines and that's about it.
if a person was curious, i would add more, but i was the take it or leave it type.
hello and goodbye.

Society gets New Light on UN?
by under_believer ini have been doing some research recently on the society's most recent teachings and statements about the united nations.
as we all know, the society has made some very extreme, very negative statements about the united nations in the past, even as recently as 1999: *** dp chap.

You are right, Heathen - and the thread was about the "political beasts" in the first place, too. But it looks like the same principle applies - they just seem to make up whatever they want (irregardless of what was said in the past) if it seems to suit the present situation better.
So, maybe we are seeing a general drawback from the old identification of specific governments and organizations as the beasts and harlots?

"A Boat Load of Guilt."
by scout575 in"my 'walk', in short, was one big struggle with "fleshly desire" and a boat load of guilt hanging over me.
this pretty much describes my life on a daily basis.
despite the advertising, jesus doesn't make you free.".

No comment just now on the religion debate, but I have a "found" kittykat named Li-Li that looks exactly like your avatar.
She came up to the patio door and stayed around because I fed her smoked salmon and capers.

Well, that is pretty sneaky. I guess that they are counting on nobody remembering the old version. This way they didn't even have to do a "new light" or some kind of retraction like with the "generation".
And, apparantly they don't want to go out on a limb and say how long they are anymore - just "thousands" of years.
So, I guess the 6000 years of mans existence and the 1000 year reign of christ don't mean diddly squat anymore, either. And that was a good part of the armaggedon 1975 rationale!
Breathtaking arrogance, I must say.

Blondie, have I missed something on the 7,000 year creative days? If this has been rescinded, then that must be as big a change as the 1995 generation redo!
Remember all the written speculation on how we were close to the end of the 6000 years of the last day and how it would be oh so appropriate to have Jesus rule for the last 1000?
If only we just knew how long Adam was there with Lilith before the gift of Eve...

Finding Jehovahs Witnesses Faith
by Marvin Shilmer infinding jehovahs witnesses faith.
i have a question for serious participants of this forum: .
what do you deem the most reliable means for determining the various convictions held by the population of jehovahs witnesses in terms of the range of what individuals within that group consider as core tenets of their faith?.

Hi Marvin -
Well, that 10% number does not surprise me at all. And, we could probably draw the conclusion that at least this many are also in doubt about UN, 1975, the whole F&DS myth, the new earth, armaggedon ever really coming, etc.
In that sense, it is astonishing that they (that 10% + ther kids, relatives, friends, etc.) continue to snort up this slop at the same old hog trough.
But, then - how many Roman Catholics started using birth control after about 7.5 babies irregardless of Pope Benedict Arnold? And still go to mass and play bingo on friday nights?
Obviously, you had something in mind when you started this thread - maybe to use this logic as a leverage to help some of the lost souls into a clearer understanding of their own minds? If so - let us know what your plan is - please! For me, I haven't yet been able to see how this interesting artifact can serve a practical purpose...
But, thanks for posting it anyway -

What is the naughtiest thing you ever did during a dist./circuit assembly?
by lovernotafighter in.

OK - against the advice of my court appointed attorney, and naming the real (first) names...
In a city called Oklahoma, long long time ago, three young servants named James, Larry and Mike were assigned to help a slightly younger ministerial servant named John and go pick up some folding chairs from one of the kingdom halls and take them over to the fairgrounds to handle overflow seating at the circuit convention.
We go forth - James and Mike in my 1974 L82 4speed Corvette, John and Larry (John driving) in none other than (city overseer) Marion Dunlap's big old work van. We load up the chairs. We are driving back. We line up going south at a red light on Meridian and 10th street.
I guess that idle hands, a close ratio fourspeed, a small block Chevy, Mike Tennant riding shotgun, and a very good-hearted younger guy driving a hopeless big old van took hold of YT. I burn through first, fishtail over in front of Van still burning out, and mash down on the disks. John, to his everlasting credit, manages to get Van shut down but is firmly convinced he will impact Corvette in the buttocks. Folding chairs follow the laws of physics - bashing John and Larry firmly about the head and shoulders. Corvette is by now burning out again and dissapears into the distance.
I do not think I have ever seen someone in a suit and tie and so angry at a circuit assembly as young John was when he finally found Mike and I back at convention hall. John outsizes me (both then and now, I think...) by probably 15 pounds and about 2 inches, and he has within him all of the Lord's righteous anger. He grabs me by the throat right in convention hall and is about to pound your humble servant into the ground when he suddenly realizes where we all are...Larry and Mike are in convulsions, of course.
We apologize like the gentlemen we all were.
I believe that both Larry and Mike are still JW elders, and I strongly suspect that both James and John have gone on to other pursuits.
Well, at least we had some fun that Saturday morning...

What are your reasons for not joining another religion?
by MARTINLEYSHON ini am going to start this debate of by saying that those of us who were raised in the so called truth, and i being one of them, can only come to terms with our past by accepting that our parents infected our minds like a virus infects a computer.
we wouldn't categorise children according to their parents' political stance, since they are too young to make up their minds about such matters.
but they (jw) segregate them from the world.

Do you mean they are not already, Blondie?

This is a rare moment of the really serious James... no wise cracks or anything...
Marion Dunlap (QV in ancient thread history r.e. Ray Franz & Marion's brother Ed Dunlap) - told me at just about the time of his death, that the one thing he really felt worst about the JW system of religion was this:
"They have pretty much destroyed the ability of thousands of good people to have faith in ANY sort of organized religion!"
He had that gun pointed at me, and of course he was right on. But, I think it applies to most of us here on this website as well.
Sincerely, James
